I recently got a perscription of tretinoin 0.025% for my acne prescribed by my doctor, but i just recently read a lot of complaints about it causing irritations on the skin so i'm scared and not so sure if i should even start it. On the other hand, I see that this acne.org regimen is helping a lot of people from their stories on how this product helped them. I'm not sure if i should try acne.org regimen because it's tempting.. but i don't know if i should just follow my doctors orders?? anyone used both of them?
My son used these treatments together successfully for his severe cystic acne and blackheads. If you only have comedonal acne (i.e. blackheads clogged pores), then the tretinoin would be the way to go. But if you have a mix of pimples and blackheads, then a dual approach can be effective. My son used BP twice a day for several weeks before introducing tretinoin. You can apply a very thin layer (about a pea-size amount) of tretinoin over the top of the BP and moisturizer. Wait about an hour though. You may notice some irritation after applying tretinoin but it goes away. Only use tretinoin once a day at night...it's potent stuff, so once a day is plenty. Never use during the day or your skin may get very sun-sensitive.
This approach worked very well for my son (and better than using with PanOxy BP face wash) and cleared up all his acne, plus the blackheads, left his skin very smooth too.
But first consider what kind of acne you have. I'm just showing these 2 treatments can work well together when used correctly, but ultimately what you decide is between you and your doctor.
Hope this is helpful!
