My first post here, so forgive me if this is in the wrong section.
A bit of background, I'm 21, male, and have had acne on and off from the age of 17. I've also taken various medication for acne, which includes Adapalene, Tretinoin, Doxycycline, Lymecycline & Accutane.
The only treatment that worked for me was Accutane, after 5 months of being on it, I finished my course, and my skin was BEAUTIFUL, and remained that way for ~ 12 weeks, since then, it's gone downhill. I will never use any prescribed acne medication again, especially not Accutane, I can truly say that was an awful experience.
So now I'm back at square one, trying to keep this acne at bay. I've just ordered the Acne.org Regimen to give it a good shot for a few months. My one main concern was the routine, and over-washing my face. I gym first thing in the morning, I would do wash #1 after this. I then head to work, I work in a kitchen, so after 7-8 hours of sweating, my skin feels greasy, sweaty, etc etc.. I would surely need to do wash #2 just after work? But I also gym in the afternoon, and also need to wash my face then too, this leaves me at washing my face 3 times a day, which is too much.. What are my options?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
If your skin is feeling greasy due to it being very oily, then use oil blotting sheets to wipe off the excess oil on your face. You can buy them at any drugstore - they get rid of excess oil on the surface of the skin and help give your skin a nice matte look.
If your skin is actually sweaty and sticky from working and being hot, then I would take a cool wet cloth and just give your face a quick wipe/pat down. No need for a cleanser or any excessive scrubbing/wiping.
I wash my face in the morning, use a make-up wipe to take my make-up off after work/before going to the gym, and then wash my face again at night. I don't have any problems with that sort of routine & don't really consider it washing my face 3x unless I'm actually using a cleanser.
Whilst you will never get rid of acne with just a face wash, choosing the right one for your skin can make a real difference.
I used to use the 'oxy' type face washes because, well, why wouldn't you when they're designed to treat acne right? But they didn't help. I remember coming home from work at lunch with my face shiny from excess oil, I'd use the face wash over lunch, and by the time I got back to work my skin was already shiny again from excess oil. I also think there is something to be said for 'over-washing', as it felt like my skin was somehow stimulated by washing to replace the lost oils.
I switched to using a 'for men' face wash and it seemed to work with my skin type so much better. I now use a brand that I just randomly picked off the shelf because the one I usually bought wasn't there, and it's amazing how clean my skin feels after using it.
I would definitely say experiment with the face wash you use to find one that fits your skin type.

I'd do the Regimen (wash face with cleanser, apply BP, apply moisturizer) in the morning and then again after your afternoon workout at the gym. While washing your face more than twice a day isn't recommended due to excessive dryness and irritation, it's understandable that you'd want to clean up a little if your job is around food. Just try and keep it to a few splashes of lukewarm water and pat dry. No need to reapply the BP, but if your skin feels dry after the rinse, no harm at all in moisturizing. You'll be able to do a better job after the gym, and reapply the treatment then too. If you do the Regimen in the afternoon, then no need to do it at bedtime.
Hope this is helpful!
