Part 1. As a person who has always enjoyed using facial scrubs, it has been so difficult for me to avoid doing so on the Acne.org regimen. I had been sticking to the regimen for about 4 wks, and because the treatment can be drying, sooooo much dead skin was building up on my t-zone. The pores on my nose and chin look terribly big and clogged. So one night I broke down and decided to use my St. Ives grapefruit exfoliating cleanser, and my skin looked and felt much better after that - or so I thought. Maybe a day or two later, i noticed these tiny (sometimes itchy) bumps that almost look like a rash have developed in between my brows, a little around my nose and just under one side of my mouth. Im like, nooooo!!!!!!!
Part 2. Ive taken pride in maintaining smooth skin for a long while. My reasons for trying the regimen was to clear my dark acne scars. So to now have these tiny, rash like bumps on my face is Super frustrating! Ive since picked up where i left off, continuing the regimen after that one moment that i veered off, and these bumps are still here. Has anyone else run into the issue of clogged pores and dead skin buildup while being on the regimen? How did cope?? And new odd breakouts like mine??? I cant wait to try the AHA!!!! Did that work for anyone????? Helpppp!!!!!
Holy shit I was just about to post a topic about these little bumps! I think I might have the same.. The area is slightly red and dry.. I have like clusters of little skin coloured to light red bumps around the sides of my moustache area (if I had one)..It looks a lot like a rash because because of all my years with severe acne before I was on acne I had never seen anything like this before..The areas almost have a bumpy like texture like the spots are under the skin or something even tho they're quite small..they're a lot more noticeable up close with a light shining on them. I noticed them after I used La Roche possay effaclar duo+ a few weeks back. Would you mind posting a pic so I could compare? Thanks.

Congrats on starting the Regimen! I'd avoid using any non-Acne.Org Regimen products until you're clear and have been clear awhile. Then you can experiment with adding new products/steps, or tweaking the existing ones. However, if you've been doing the Regimen for 4 weeks, you're good to go to add in some AHA+. It's great for sloughing off all that dead skin and flakes, and helps fade PIH. But I'd avoid any scrubs, etc. as these can be very irritating, and other brands might contain pore-clogging ingredients, as you found out. Chemical exfoliation like AHA+ provides is much gentler. But if you're really flaky, you can try gently wiping your face with a wet washcloth, this will take care of the bigger flakes.
Pore clogs...these can be a problem for some people. My son went through this on the Regimen too. His skin was loaded with blackheads and pore clogs, and BP really didn't help this issue. I thought we were going to have to break down and go to a spa for professional extraction. What ultimately helped him was building in a retinoid after he'd cleared up the inflamed acne. Your derm can prescribe one if they think you need this. After the initial breakout from the retinoid cleared up, it worked rapidly and now his skin isn't congested at all and the Regimen products absorb even better than ever! Today he still alternates between AHA+ and tretinoin .05% at night, over the top of his BP. Hasn't had a pimple or a blackhead/pore clog in weeks. Something to look into!

One thing I've done to kind of exfoliate without a scrub is to use plain oatmeal and grind it up in a blender and make a paste with water. It feels really nice and won't dry out your skin. Unless you have gluten issues its pretty safe.

Thanks so much for your response! Unfortunately, I'm just about out of the cleanser, so I'm waitimg for my new one to arrive. Do you have any suggestions as to comparable cleansers I could try while waiting? I feel like Dan mentioned something about a Clean and Clear cleanser at one point.... I say the scrub broke me out, but I dont know. Could it just be a "purge" you think? I cant wait for these tiny little bumps to go away. My skin was so smooth before. Thank You!

My skin was so smooth before starting this regimen, as I only did it for the blemishes.
But ill power through. Do you do the oatmeal in addition to the AHA?

hi, honestly I just use the oatmeal unless Im wearing make up ( rarely). I like Sibu sea buckthorn cleanser but its a bit expensive, I suggest a natural glycerine, mud, or tea tree bar. Check out The Vitamin Shoppe, though I also like Neutragenas bar.

I don't recommend usdusding a cleanser FOR acne because that+ other treatments may be too harsh.
Many people do get a purge especially with AHA. I hope it works well for you.
