When I start this regimen, I've been told that irritation equal acne, so I alway try not to rub my skin even it's really really really really really itchy!
Then I went to the dermatologist ask about anything like rub or irritation can cause acne? The doctor says no any scientific evidence can proof that the connection between rub and acne.
Of course we all know that rob your skin it's not good for the acne , but can you guys explain why irritation equal acne in the scientific way?
One of the contributing factors, in inflammatory acne atleast,is thought to be bacterial infection. So rationally, if you are touching your face you could be spreading the bacteria from one location to another (although these bacteria are supposedly ubiquitously present on the skin so that may not make much difference) and if you rub the skin and create a break in the skin barrier/open up a pore you may contribute to bacteria getting in to places where they can cause inflammation.
So I would say your doctor is right that merely rubbing the skin isn't likely to be a problem but if you rub enough to irritate and break the skin integrity then you have a potential issue.

Thank you very much for explaining ! Your thesis make sense! Now I understood!
@Jazzgyuy definitely hit the nail on the head.
One rule of thumb I always follow is if I'm feeling itchy from the BP in the regimen or what have you, I'll take a piece of paper towel or toilet paper (works better because its usually softer), wrap it around my finger and gently brush the area of my face thats itchy. And by gently brush, I mean barely touch it to your skin, but just enough to get rid of that itch.
best of luck
Hi guys, I got this from the acne. Org myths page.
MythTouching your face moves bacteria around and causes acne
RealityBacteria on the surface of your skin has nothing to do with
It is the bacteria deep within your pores (Propionibacterium acnes) that are part of the acne formation process not the bacteria on the surface of your skin. The reason it is important to leave your skin relatively untouched is because physically irritating the skin can cause breakouts and not because you are moving bacteria around.14
