Feeling Despondent/evening Primrose Oil

I have what I suppose is fairly mild acne but it really upsets me and affects my confidence. I am a bit stuck for whether to continue using the acne.org treatment because I feel like it has made my skin worse and it doesn't seem to be getting me anywhere. And the fact that makeup makes me look like a lizard isn't helping because I can't even hide behind a mask!

Here is a brief history of my issue...

I am 26 now, I started getting acne at around 24-25 and tried all the usual shop things. My acne is mainly on my chin with the odd spot on my cheeks.

The thing I found to have an actual impact was taking evening primrose oil. But I was taking 3000mg a day which is 3x the recommended dose. It didn't clear my skin but it felt more under control.

I got the Proactiv 3-step kit for Christmas 2014 and used that alongside the EPO. This did help a bit - I would have a few spot free days in the month but my skin never actually looked nice and I was still breaking out.

Then I heard about the regimen. I've been using the treatment now for about a month. I am still washing my face with the Proactiv cleanser as I haven't finished the bottle yet. But I won't repurchase (it's not worth the money!). I moisturize with Cetaphil or use the acne.org AHA. I feel like the skin which isn't spotty has benefited and looks nicer using the AHA. But the problem areas are still problematic.

I now take 1000mg of EPO a day as well because I wanted to reduce the dosage. But I feel like my skin is actually worse since changing routines. I have a lot of hyperpigmentation which is upsetting because I am very pale and my spots are taking longer to clear. I am also getting more of them. All gifts for birthdays and Christmas since this started have related to my bad skin, what my mother refers to as my 'poorly face'.

I'd have describe my acne as mild so I feel like the worsening of it is a big deal because looking in the mirror today I want to cry because it's probably verging on moderate acne.

I basically want some advice. Should I plough on, will it get better or am I destined to be spotty for life?

A month is very early to get your skin do adapt to the treatment. Give the Regimen about 3-4 months to really clear your skin. I have had much success with it and it took me about 10 weeks to get acne free and about 4 months in total to get the hyperpigmentation to fade away. The Regimen really isn't an overnight miracle, it takes time and patience and effort.

Hi thank you for replying. I suppose I am being impatient!

I bought Dan's cleanser today to use instead of Proactiv as I read the salicyclic acid plus BP in the treatment might be irritating me. Fingers crossed!
