I am just beginning week 3 of the regimen. My skin definitely got worse going into week 2, but at the end of the week started to show some minimal progress. I've been through it all, including 2 rounds of accutane, but I'm having such a hard time convincing myself to continue. I am 27 years old, dealing with acne since about age 14. My skin itches so badly when new breakouts emerge, then when they come to the surface they throb and are more painful than anything I've experienced in the past. I haven't been able to use more than half a fingers length of BP due to excessive dryness. In the past 2 days I have developed about 10-15 new lesions in spots I thought were starting to finally improve last week. I am just finding it so hard to push on, I'm having a hard time even letting my husband see me without makeup, even going to work is a struggle because of how embarrassed I am. Just hoping I'm not the only one that's feeling this way at this point. I have been following dan's steps religiously.

Sounds like you have sensitive skin like me. The dryness and redness were awful in the early weeks but it does get better. Eventually these symptoms will subside and the Regimen treatment will begin to feel more comfortable. It is important to muscle through these difficult weeks and get your skin on the full dosage (one full finger length) in order to achieve the best results. Have you tried adding jojoba oil to the moisturizer? This really helps with the uncomfortable dryness and helps restore balance to dry skin.

Hang in there! :) Many, many people struggle with these same things...not at all uncommon.

I agree with DeLovely! A few drops of jojoba oil makes a difference. And yes, the first few weeks can truly be a struggle but you have already gotten this far, so might as well see it through right? I have been through the same process and luckily came out with skin I am truly happy about. I hope it goes the same way for you. :)

Thanks for the encouragement! I do have very sensitive skin. Before I started the regimen, I was using a 10% benzoyl peroxide wash twice a day with no issues so I thought the adjustment to BP wouldn't be so bad- I was wrong!

Update....now into week 5 and still seeing no signs of improvement. Face is still burning and flaking although I cut down on the amount of Bp. Went to a new dermatologist for a 2nd opinion, and he said with my skin, topicals will never work. Had some cortisone injections which helped short term but now new breakouts have taken over. I also think hormones are playing a large role. So, after lots of deliberation I guess I am going on round 3 of accutane. Very discouraged :(

@Jen...I know how much you wanted the Regimen to work. Very disappointing news. Best of luck...let us know how you're doing! Don't ever give up...stay positive! :)

-hugs-

Hey Jenpat,

Sorry to hear about ur troubles. I know my skin is extremely sensitive too and I became allergic to bp altogether. Something that ive tried is using Dans AHA+ morning and night right after you cleanse your face and thats it. Ive been doing this for a little over 4 wks and am pretty much cleared up. It may be a little rough right away while your skin gets used to it and it purges, but hang in there and hopefully you have the same results as me. Another positive of using alpha hydroxy acid in my case is that it helps clear your red marks quickly and it also makes your skin less sensitive after you get used to it, which is a breath of fresh air from pretty much every other topical which just continually irritates it. Hope this helps!
