Now I'm on my 2nd months with the regimen, I use 2 full pumps twice a day, and it still seems that my skin can't adjust to the regimen. It still burns a lot, and my skin is red. But what's most bodering me is that my skin is so extremely flaky it's unbelievable. This morning I woke up to take out my dog for a walk, and it seems that good weather has arrived, so the sun is shining. That's why I thought I should use sunscreen before I go out of the apartment, and when I get back, I do the regular rutin with the regimen (face wash, BP, moisture), but when I put on the sunscreen, which is by the way white, it was just like when I tried to apply foundation on my face, only with the colour white: it made my extremely flaky skin more extremely flaky... Honestly I just wanted to cry. I am so miserable, I really don't know what to do to stop this flakiness because I can't stand it. I use Dan's moisturizer and mix it with 100% jojoba oil every single time, less in the morning, more in the evening. I moisturize several times a day, also with jojoba oil, because if I use only the moisturizer, the result is the same: more flaky skin To tell you the truth, I would just stop using the regimen, because I'm so sick of this battle with my own skin, and there are still new and new pimples on my face, which are also painful, and there are also a lot of brown spots and I look awful. Next week I have to start my next semester in the college, there will be days when I have to be there from 7 am to 7 pm, and I'm seriously horrified what my skin will look like. And there's still the problem of the sunscreen that I just can't use (it's Bioderma Photoderm Max Cream SPF 50+, non-comedogenic and stuff). I tried to put it on with moisturizer, and it was still awful.
Please, if there's someone out there in the universe who could help me with this ugly, gross flaky skin, then do it, pls. I want to stick with the regimen because I don't know why, but I still have faith in it, and if I started to torchure my skin with it, then I just don't want to stop now. Oh and another thing, I want to order the acne.org glycolic acid, because I've read somewhere that it helps with the flakiness. Is it true? Should I order it? But even if I will, I have to wait weeks till it arrives Please please please help me!
Hey there, it's a shame that this is happening for you and I understand how you must be feeling A few questions though, are you using 2.5% BP? Anything higher could be contributing to those problems. If you are, did you start the regimen slowly? A slow start is really essential.
It's possible that your skin is just very sensitive to it, I'd suggest that, instead of giving up completely, come off it for a few days and then start again from the very beginning, with small amounts. Using the glycolic acid is a great idea, it can really help with the flakiness. Also, you may have tried this before, but Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly is great for dry skin. I put it all over my face before I go to bed (without washing it off), and ever since, my dryness has disappeared. Just be careful if you do decide to do that because some people find themselves breaking out with it.
If you're breaking out at all, it may be due to the dryness because the irritation can lead to breakouts.
Have you tried going on antibiotics? I mean, if you feel that your acne is that bad and have been struggling for a while with it, that's probably something to think about.
Good luck!
Yes, I use Dan's 2.5% BP. I started it really slowly, only once a day on the first week, after that I increased the amount of it, but when I was on my 3rd week, I applied about one and a half pump of the BP (or a little bit less), but I just couldn't stand it, so I did what you recommend, I skipped a day, I only washed my face and then moisturized. After that I started from the bottom, so I used only a pea-size amount again, just like in the beginning, and increased it from week to week, that's how I reached now the full amount of it. And that's the reason why I don't want to do it again, stop and then start from the beginning, because I always end up like this, and I think I would never step over the deadlock if I always start it again By the way, I just ordered the glycolic acid, I can't wait for it to arrive, I'm so hopeful about it.
About the vaseline, I use that only around my eye, because even if I'm so careful to avoid it when I apply BP, it still dries out a lot To tell the truth, I don't dare to use it all over my face because I've read a lot of articles and opinions about it, and most of them about that vaseline clogs the pores and I really don't want to get my pimples turning into worse. I would probably rip my head off if my skin became worse than this
I didn't try antibiotics, does it really help? What kind of antibiotics?
I'm wondering that I wish I could get Roaccutane instead of the regimen, but there's only one doctor in a near city who is willing to prescribe it, but he said he won't do that because my acne is "not that bad", because my face isn't covered with acne... 'Only' on my cheeks and a little bit on my chin and forehead. But he can't understand that even if it's not 'a lot', I'm suffering from it for about 2 years (I'm 22 now), and I just can't get rid of it, it's so deep and painful That's why I want the regimen so bad to work because I really can't see any other solutions
Oh I sound like I'm some kind of depressed old lady.
Thank you for your response, now all of my faith is in the glycolic acid.
The reason why you still get new pimples is because your skin is way too irritated from the benzoyl peroxide overuse. This happened to me too when I tried to use it every day, once I reduced it to once every other night my skin slowly became perfect. I don't even know why I tell you this because people just don't listen, so just keep doing what your doing and suffer.
Your skin clearly can't handle the original regimen and if you add glycolic acid on top of that, well needless to say but your irritation will get worse and you can welcome more angry pimples.
Ah, I see...what if you just don't use the full amount? It may not be AS helpful or quick as using the full amount, but it's still using it...I'd only try and do that if the glycolic acid doesn't work, but hopefully it will!
Well, as for antibiotics, I've just been prescribed Lymecycline. I suppose it depends where you're from, I'm from the UK and that's usually what they give out here at first. Because I, too, don't seem to have acne "that badly", I was given that instead of anything stronger. However, I've found that it is extremely helpful, especially with those deep cystic type spots. I had one on my face for about two years that just wouldn't budge, and after a week on these I've found that it's going down. Also, people using accutane usually report their skin worsening at first and getting really dry, I don't think I could deal with that
I hope the glycolic acid works for you, I've also just ordered some too
I think you should try just once a day application of the regimen, or twice a day but using just a very small amount of BP. Everyone's skin is different and I think people need to tweak the regimen to find what works best for them. Constant irritation and inflammation of the skin will just lead to more acne so it may be that you can get away with using less BP to control your acne. You just need to experiment and see what works best for you. And I agree that a light layer of Vaseline may work well for your dry skin. I have never found it to clog pores. Try a small amount on a small area, like your chin, and see how it works.
Hi
I dont know where you live, but I've been using Paula's Choice products next to my benzoylperoxide,
and her products are great!!
My skin was also so so so dry and it looked awfull!! and now -i ve been using the regimen for 3 months- in conjunction
with her products (moisturizer for very dry skin) my skin isn't that dry anymore and I can wear foundation again!
All her products are based on research and really helped my skin! Keep your head up!
Aww guys, thank you for being so supportive! I guess I try to use the BP only at night, and I'll see what happens. I will use glycolic acid when it arrives, and Claudiazwemmen30 I will definitely look for that moisturizer, thank you so much!
Seriously, my skin will look better not because of the regimen, but because of you guys
My severe dryness and flakes got better with using jojoba oil to remove my make up, rinse, cleanser and then I use a wash cloth to remove cleanser gently. More oil immediately after towel drying lightly and then BP right after that. I also have been gently exfoliating every other morning. I have seen the most improvement since adjusting the regimen this way. I am on week 8.
