I'm Using Differin Gel, Should I Exfoliate My Skin?

Hello!

I have acne prone, sensitive, and combination skin.

Currently I'm using differin gel, and it seems to work well.

My skin isn't greasy and big pimples are disappearing.

But I heard that differin gel doesn't exfoliate, is it right?

If so, can I use Scrub? because my skin seems to hate BHA, AHA.... when I use these products, my skin irritates.

So, I want your advice... :)

Hey

I've been using Differin for about six weeks. I think it does exfoliate inside the pore and removes dead skin, but you might need a little help to loosen the dead skin cells. I read somewhere that although it removes the dead skin, you may need a little manual exfoliation to remove them from the top layer of your skin. I wouldn't use bha or aha, I think they do a similar thing to differin and shouldn't be used along with it if you have sensitive skin. I found that using a gentle exfoliating scrub works well, only a couple of times a week and when you wash you're face normally you will be removing some of the dead skin cells too. I just gently use the scrub with really light circular motions....seemed to work well. Although the last coupld of weeks I've used it less but I don't know if that's because the differin has removed a lot of the build up of dead cells, so now I have a lot less to get rid off, I'd still use a gentle scub if I did feel a build up, but go easy. Maybe use it in the morning or one night that you won't be apply differin and applying it after exfoliating might irritate your skin.

Hope this helps a bit. I'm not an expert but always willing to help out :). Glad it's working out for you!

Happy to help. I meant to say I try to avoid exfoliating with a scrub if I have any spots that I've burst (yuck I know) or that are really inflamed as sometimes it can spread the bacteria and make thinks a bit more irritated, I usually wait till things have calmed down a bit before I manually exfoliate.

Let me know how you get on. I use clinique 7 day scrub, it is quite grainy but I just go really lightly with it. There are loads though and I'm always looking for one that is a bit more natural and gentle so If you find anything, let me know.

I decided to exfoliate with a scrub 1 time very gently and not to use differin gel when I scrub.

Using differin gel, I think it exfoliates inside the pore and dead cells but the top of my layer skin is needed to exfoliate.

The problem is my skin is sensitive.

So, I'm still searching some good products, but exfoliating gel from Vichy seems to be quite good :)

(When you use it, you should bubble with water enough. If not, you can feel it is quite harsh.)

And I really appreciate your advice :)

If you want to manually exfoliate without irritating your skin with a scrub, I'd advise using jojoba oil. Put a few drops in your palms and massage into the dry areas for 5-10 minutes. It's helped my skin a lot! :)
