I tried The Regimen last summer and quit about a month into it. My skin has still been a mess...and has recently become even worse. I decided to go back and try the regimen once again...this time I vow to be consistent all the way through no matter what. I really hope it works. I have been on it for three weeks now and have a few questions though:
1) Should I keep increasing the amount of BP if my skin is extremely dry? I added the joba joba oil which provides some relief...but I feel hesitant to add more BP if my skin is already a dry, flaky mess. I am making sure to go slowly...as I have very sensitive skin. I am using about a dime size amount twice day now...maybe a little more. It seems scary to know how much I have to work up to considering how dry my skin is already!
2) Is it a problem if I can't apply as much moisturizer in the morning? I apply the full amount with joba joba oil at night. In the morning however, especially with how humid it is here...I can only apply about one pump, definitely not two pumps. The days I tried putting the full amount during the day time too...the product never fully absorbed and looked horrible in combination with my makeup. It made my hair oily too when I tried wearing it down...so I definitely can't use so much during the day.
3) Is an initial break out common? I feel like I am breaking out more...not terribly more...but still more than usual...and in areas I haven't broken out in for awhile. I know I have pretty clogged pores. I figured my skin was just purging.
I guess that's about it for now...any feedback will be very much appreciated...Thanks!
I personally won't increase the bp if your skin is extremely dry. I made that mistake and my face got very red. For the moisturizer I think as long as it is apply to your whole face you should be fine. And yes a breakout is very common since your face have to get used to it. For me the only major breakout I had was during the first week using the regimen. I am on my 7 month now and I rarely get breakouts only an couple whiteheads like once a month. Just hang in there the first month is alway tough.
If you want your skin to be clear, follow the regimen religiously. Work your way up until you can use two pumps of BP (should be around week 4). Your skin SHOULD get used to the BP by weeks 4-5, although it takes some people a lot longer and you will still see some redness and dryness on your skin. That's just BP's side effect and there's no way around it unless you use jojoba oil AND moisturizer. I know because I've experienced it before and it didn't feel good at all. I think after the 3rd day of using jojoba oil (I implemented it into my regimen on the 4th week, the redness and all the flakes disappeared). You have to make sure you are using enough moisturizer to cover every dry areas of your skin.
You gotta stay patient and persistent. That is the name of the game. Don't worry about breaking out because you will break out during the regimen anyway, even if its one or two tiny pimples. That's just how acne-prone skin works, but if you want to prevent these breakouts, follow the regimen thoroughly.
Sometimes, people render the regimen ineffective because they give up easily.
I second everything TheOneThatGotAway says. Even if your skin is dry its important to keep slowly upping the amount of BP. I only ever recommend people back off with the BP if you are severely red or irritated. Dry skin is normal and it can be combated with Jojoba oil and AHA (around week 5 once you are on the full dose of BP and not suffering too much with irritation).
This is your second attempt so make it a successful attempt. Its scary, and its hard and its frustrating but there is a reward at the end if you can just grit your teeth and bear it for the next couple of months.
