Help! Extremely Red Face From Accidental Exfoliation

Hi there.

So I ended up crying a lot today and my eye makeup ran all down my cheeks and face...so when I got home I rubbed an oil mix of jojoba and caster all over and then laid with a rag on my face for 30 sec or so. Then without thinking i wiped the oil off my face with the rough washcloth, dried and put more benzoyl peroxide on.

My face was FINALLY getting much less red. I was so happy with its colour. Now, this is the reddest my face has ever been. Very very bright red and burning and irritated.

Obviously the manual exfoliation did it. Now what do I do?? Skip a couple applications of BP? I need this insane redness to go away :(((

I more or less am going through the exact same thing - used way too much AHA+ because I thought my skin had adjusted and ended up "burning" my face instead.

Are you "shedding" any dead skin cells? I think for me I ended up overexfoliating and brought up a lot of "dead cells" that didn't really shed on its own, so I would take jojoba oil and use like 6-7 drops on my face and then try to massage my skin so I could get rid of the dead skin cells. As for the general redness, I just made sure I was REALLY moisturised (my redness = dryness usually) and try to leave it alone...avoid looking in the mirror as much as possible so I wouldn't constantly want to touch it to "see if it got better". I think your best bet is to just leave it alone.

I wouldn't skip the BP though. I don't know if this is a GOOD idea necessarily, but instead of BP before moisturiser, I'd moisturise my face befoer the BP. The BP probably won't "work as well" but I'd rather it be a little less effect than forego it completely. :/

If you wear make-up you can always use a green-based primer before your foundation or a concealer wheel that comes with green/blue?

I would say skip the BP for a few days while your face calms down. BP is drying and irritating to the skin, so I can only imagine it won't help.

Try rubbing a cube of ice all over your face. Sounds weird, but it does wonders to calm down redness and irritation on your skin. Also, if you have any dry patches, use Aquaphor or Vaseline. Within a day usually they're gone.

I just tried the ice cube thing all over my face and it did wonders! 😮 I was trying it out cause I thought it would feel super nice but I noticed that my face calmed down a LOT! Thanks for the tip 😀

No problem, 'ice facials' are the best! Haha
