I posted this on another thread, but I wanted it as its own topic for more response!
I have been on the regiment for 10 months and I had to stop using it. My acne disappeared after about 3 - 4 months, and I could also see some results just after a week. The red marks has never seemed to disappear. I had a really really heavy and long time break out on my face for at least 6 months. So I was so happy and relieved when the breakouts stopped after 3 - 4 months. Flakiness wasn't a problem after the same amount of time.
My biggest problem on the regiment has been two things.
1: I live in Norway, and the winter here is really cold. So using the regiment made my face more than red. I got super red. The skin around my eyes where really pale. And the marks from my acne where almost blue. I looked really really bad. And my face got really dry as well. And as I have read, there is a lot of water in the moisturizer so when it was - 20 C, it felt like my face was about to crack up. What could I have done in a situation like that?
2: As it is summer now, my face hasn't stopped being red. People comment my red face, and it almost feels like my skin can't handle the products. I started to use the BP only at night, but still using the rest both day and night, because of the redness.
A couple of weeks ago i stopped using the regiment because of the redness and went over to use some organic farmer oils and cremes. People started to comment that my skin looked so much more fresh and healthy, so I didn't want to go back to the regiment. Then I could suddenly see black spots develop on my forehead. I got very oily in the T zone, and got spots on those areas as well on my neck and under my chin. I am freaking out as this is happening right now.
Is the reason for that because my skin needs to get used to the change? Or is it "the old" acne coming back? Is it really necessary to use the regiment for such a long time? Acne is usually a periodic thing.. it hasn't come to stay? I feel that the regiment does a great job, at the same time as I feel that is really harsh to the skin..! When to stop using it? And what to do when the skin never stops to get red? I even met a girl that laughed at my red face. That is not a good memory or feeling to have.
So a couple of days ago, I went back on using the regiment. And from having some spots here and there I now have spots everywhere, and are back to being a lobster. Horrible combination. It wasn't so bad the first time.. What happened? And what should I do now?!
I don't want to go outside or meet people or anything..! I am really frustrated and sad..!
(PS: I read you Q&A, and you mentioned wrinkles etc. and you said that it wouldn't have an effect. Well I have to say that my face have "changed" and looks a bit older now than before I started the regiment. More than that I am 10 months older. Its like my skin on my face is zagging a bit more, and wrinkles on my forehead and around my mouth is a lot more visible. I have a feeling that the regiment has been a part of that. I don't know if it is true.. but I can see it on pictures from before I started compared to how I look now.. and it is only 10 months ago. In that case I would suddenly age more that usual. And thats a bit weird.)
I don't usually reply on these forums, normally just read them but my experience with the products I found on this website led me here. I'm not here to tell you what you should or shouldn't use (i'm not a doctor) however, I think its necessary I share my journey. I've been suffering from mild to moderate acne pimples ever since I was about 16. After hitting 20, I decided to order Dan's regimen online and hoped for the best. I bought it back in October 2012 and it surprisingly kept me clear for a few months aside from the dry, flaky skin. In about March 2013 I didn't want to deal with the dryness anymore so I stopped and within a week my pimples started coming back. I became so panicked that I went back on the regimen immediately. Unfortunately, I took 1 step forward and it drew me 150 steps backs. I had to start the regimen again from day 1 just from taking a week off !! I was so depressed, agitated, and emotionally drained. What's worse is when I used the benzoyl peroxide it made my skin so uncomfortably itchy, red, dry, and bumpy. I couldn't understand why so I just stuck with it and used as much moisturizer as possible. Throughout the weeks, my skin not only looked worse it felt so disgusting and I literally just wanted to sit in a corner, and claw my face off. I was so uncomfortable in my own skin ... literally ! I finally decided to stop using the products at the point where my itching caused my face to bleed. I developed a facial rash which slowly moved its way down my neck. I decided to use more gentle natural products to calm the irritation so I went to an organic supermarket and purchased a jar of extra virgin organic coconut oil. Coconut oil claims to reduce dryness and irritation, it's also supposed to heal the skin with it's natural antibacterial, anti fungal and antiviral properties. I read so many pros on this, it was bound to work !!! right .. ? wrong. My neck just seemed to get worse and worse everyday.. it was so bumpy I was terrified my smooth acne-free neck would start having break outs. My mom finally forced me to go to the hospital last week to get it checked out, so I agreed, and waited 3 hours to see the doctor. Immediately he saw my rash and let me know I've developed an allergic reaction to the benzoyl peroxide I'd been using and when I told him I've been using coconut oil he had this sour look on his face. The doctor informed me that the coconut oil I was applying is actually more irritating NOT soothing and it's comedogenic which of course clogs your pores and leads to more breakouts ! Not only that, he diagnosed me with contact dermatitis which is a term for a skin reaction resulting from the exposure to allergens or irritiants... that's how bad my skin got. He prescribed a topical steroid cream for my skin and honestly a night after using it, my face was so white, soft and smooth it took me several months and heartache to realize my skin tone actually isn't red and my complexion is an even colour. Anyways, I'm no longer a red little tomato
BUT I have a few pimples on my cheeks which I'm still struggling with but after everything I've been through I know that i'll get through it. Well... this was a long ass post but I really wanted to share my experience especially if it helps someone from struggling like I was
xoxo
I've attached a nasty picture of my neck ... not sure why theres so many lines across it =|
...and are back to being a lobster....
LOL you're so funny man. I don't mean to laugh at your acne (I just found it funny that you used that to describe your skin situation).
I have a few tips for you:
1. What moisturizer are you using? The one moisturizer that works for me is Olay's moisturizing lotion for sensitive skin. I bought it for $9 at Walmart. Not sure if you have that store where you're from. Also, you should always moisturize yourself every day to prevent skin dryness. Perhaps, your skin is irritated so that may be why your skin is red. If you splash cold water on your face after cleansing it or use ice for a few mins, the redness will soon go away. That trick always works for me.
2. You should never stop using BP if you have acne prone skin as BP helps treat and PREVENT acne. Use it even if you don't have acne, maybe you could lessen the dosage but never stop using it because your acne will just come back unless of course you figure out what's causing you to break out.
3. BP makes your skin so sensitive under the sun. Hence, wrinkles may show if your skin is exposed to sunlight. Solution? Stay out of the sun OR apply a SPF moisturizing lotion. Again, Olay is a good brand and I believe that they have a SPF lotion called Olay SPF 30 defense All day moisturizer -- sensitive skin.
