I have been clear for a little over a month now because of The Regimen. I get a few spots here and there when I get my period or when I get stressed out but it is not that big of a deal. AHA works wonders as a spot treatment.
I was diagnosed with PCOS when i was around 17 I think and have been on a few types of birth control. For the past 3 years I have been on Diane 35. And though it did clear up my acne to a certain degree, it never prevented it. My face, mostly my jaw and chin and part of my cheeks were still full of cystic acne. I think basically it just cleared my forehead and nose.
When I started the regimen last January, I didn't think it would do much, but it got me clear. Loving my skin right now and I've been thinking that MAYBE I can go off the birth control. I'm pretty sure have BCP in the system for long amounts of time can never be great but I'm just sort of freaked out that my acne might come back in full force even though I am still on Dan's regimen.
Any advice from BCP user who weaned of them? Any regimen users with the same issue? Were you guys on any particular skin care regimen that didn't make your acne come back? Really interested in knowing.
Thinking of replacing the BCP with supplements similar to Dan's. Fish oil, Vit D and Zinc. Any thoughts?
Birth control never helped me at all. What did help was Spironolactone. It has very few side effects, and I've been told that in PCOS patients it can help regulate periods. I don't have PCOS, so it made mine irregular (this is a common side effect).
Birth control helped me a bit, it did lessen my acne, but didn't get rid of all of it. I still continued to break out on my jaw and chin area the most.
I'm hoping that since I've been on BCP for so long that my periods will still stay regular. And I won't break out coz I am on the regimen.
Umm... I think that it's best to discuss this matter w/your GYN doctor. Going off of BC can severely effect your hormone levels and cause the PCOS to worsen. Now that you have your acne under control, it may just be a good idea to check with your doctor first before making any sudden changes to your PCOS regimen. I'd hate to see your condition worsen. Best of luck!!
