I have honestly always wondered this. After you wash (especially in the morning when you get out of the shower), and your face starts to become tight and dry, does moving it around create irriation? I kind of feel tugging on my skin and usually afterwards I can see some flakes appear. When my face is overly dry, sometimes I will do this because I cannot stand the tight feeling. Maybe I should stop. Any ideas?
Yes, I know what you are talking about. Your mouth region moves a lot more than the rest of your face, so contraction/stretching of the skin there usually results in flakes. If you could move your nose as much as your mouth, you'd have flakes all over your nose too. Reason it appears after cleansing is because you've just removed your skin of pretty much all moisturizer/oil, leaving it completely dry.
What I do to prevent this tight feeling: use a gentle cleanser, and then apply BP immediately after patting my face dry with a towel. I know that the regimen says 10-15 minutes, but I find that if I apply immediately, flakes have not yet had time to form, and the BP goes on much easier.
Then, I let the BP sit for around 15 minutes, trying not to move my face at all during this period... and then moisturize. Voila! Now I can move my mouth all I want, and there's no tight feeling and no flakes for the rest of the day.

Gotcha. I think I'm gonna reduce the amount of time between cleansing/BP. Sometimes I sit around too long after cleansing. This makes it a bitch to apply BP sometimes, and it also dries the hell out of my face. Thanks for the reply

I used to wait 30 minutes to an hour before applying BP, because i wanted my skin to dry up as MUCH as possible, and i moved my skin as much as i could to loosen all the flakes, i'm talking taking my hands and stretching my skin so the top layer of skin cracks and flakes (Didn't hurt at all, was kind of satisfying actually) so i could exfoliate them all off. and it never once caused a breakout.
i guess my skin is just... bullet proof.
but yeah, that was too much trouble and i do what wombat does now, except i apply oil first, and it completely gets rid of most, if not all flakes.
Also, I'M STILL WAITING RYAN.
