I haven't been able to find out much information about acne fully ending for people on this site yet, mainly just people continually treating it.
Most people get some acne in their teens, but when roughly does it normally end for most people? Accutane seems to be the only treatment that I've so far read that can end your acne completely if you're lucky so you don't need to bother with a regimen anymore.
I've only just started Dan's regimen and am far from clean yet, but I certainly don't want to be doing this routine for the rest of my life. Acne doesn't seem to be a hugely genetic thing for me - my parents and brother I think all had some mild acne in their teens like most but this has since disappeared, I'm currently going through a pretty heavy bout and am on oxytetracycline and differin to try and treat it. Do either of these (if they work for you) actually end the acne? Or do they just treat what's currently on your face and do nothing for you in the long term? Am I expected to just grow out of it (I'm 19 now)?
Say if by using Dan's regimen you become acne-free, how can you stop using the regimen and remain clean? has anyone here done that?
Thanks
its not important to worry about things like this now. just keep using the regimen and see if it works for you. if it does, just keep it up without thinking about when you have to stop.
im sure one day youll get lazy and skip a day and then from there youll be able to see what happens. if nothing happens, then youll probably end up skipping another day. etc etc.
there is no way to stay clear after the regimen unless youve grown out of acne. your skin is your skin, and the regimen wont change it (only accutane will from what i read).
Asking your family when they grew out of acne might give you an okay idea of when you might grow out of it, but keep in mind that everyone's skin is different.
And also keep in mind that there's no cure for acne. The Regimen isn't meant to cure acne, it's just a treatment to keep it under control.
From what I have seen many people say that your sebaceous glands mature starting from your cheeks and end up maturing last around your chin/lip area. To me this sort of makes sense, because while I don't really have acne (I wouldn't call 2-3 zits acne) they are ALWAYS always around that specific area. And it is a constant theme I have noticed, the people with very very mild acne tend to have just a few zits in that area.
I would say you should be using the gentlest products possible on your face to control your acne until your body and skin mature and stop this menace! Also maintaining a healthy lifestyle is extremely important. I eat healthy, rock climb, and run; these activities have definitely made me a healthier person for two reasons. Firstly they are good for your body and reduce stress and secondly you focus on good nutrition when trying to train for a sport. I'm absolutely convinced that besides genetics what you eat is the number one most important thing in beating acne.
Hey I think you should read the Caveman post under Holistics Forums It seems pretty plausible to me as of right now I am 100% acne free its been only 1 day so far though. Who knows maybe its a one day thing but also right now im doing the Apple Fasting and I think it really freakin works I have mild acne I gotta say though this fasting is a bitch I feel all dizzy nd stuff so right now im stuffing down lots of apples but if anything man look it up it'll really open your eyes I think im done using topical stuff but like i said go check out the Holistics forums and look for the Caveman Post it should be on the first or second page =D
In my opinion there will never be a point where you will "never have to use acne products again".
You will have your face (hopefully) for you entire life and therefore you will have issues with your facial skin for your entire life.
What i would recommend is to change your perception about treating acne.
It's not about "treating acne" it's about "keeping your skin healthy".
So what I'm trying to say is ... you will need to keep your skin healthy for your entire life.
What products you use and the frequency that you use them will change throughout your life.
If you have skin, you'll have to take care of it.

The majority of people over 25 have no need for acne treatments.

While i agree that age will usually reduce acne symptoms ... I've generally found your statement to be false.
As someone who deals with acne, i tend to look at other peoples skin and i can guarantee you that being over 25 is no guarantee that acne will stop. I've seen both my parents get a pimple once in a while and they are in they're 60s!
Skin is porous, organic, living tissue and is always susceptible to irritation, inflammation, infection and pimples.
It's the way it is.

I never said being over 25 guarantees acne will stop, i said the majority of people over 25 have no need for acne treatments. And come on, having a pimple "once in a while" in your 60's does not warrant treatment! those will heal on their own very quickly. I highly doubt your parents smother their face in BP twice a day just because they get a pimple once in a blue moon.

My uncle, dad, and mom are all in their forties and fifties and they all use prescription acne treatments to keep their acne under control. My boyfriend's dad is in his fifties, too, and he has acne as well.

I said "majority", NOT "everybody". Its not that complicated. You know what majority means right? More then half.. and in this case i'd say way over half of people over 25 have no need for acne treatments.

Yes, I know what 'majority' means, thanks. And I'd disagree with you. I don't think that "way over half" of adults have no need for acne treatments. I work with the public every day, and see adults of all ages all the time who have acne.
All Bolthouse and I are trying to point out is that it's not uncommon for people to have problems with acne beyond their twenty fifth year. Take into consideration how many of the members of acne.org are older than twenty five. So for you to say that "the majority of people over twenty five have no need for acne treatments" is a bunch of hooey. I'd actually venture to guess that the majority of people over twenty five do still need to treat their acne, even if it's only from time to time.

WRONG!
There are probably a few billion people over 25 in the world, and you think the number of them that are on here actually supports your point? LOL is all i can do..

LOL is all I can do at your attitude. But since you've obviously polled the entire adult population of the world, and thus proved beyond a doubt that you're right, I'm done with this.
Circle, I stand by my original post: Ask your family when they "grew out of acne", and that might give you an idea of when you might grow out of it. But please don't think there's some magical age that people just stop breaking out. Everybody's different, you know? Anyway, good luck. : )
OK, I think everyone needs to relax a little.
The answer to Circle's original question is clear. There is no guarantee that his skin will or will not require continuing acne treatment throughout his life.
No one can definitively say anything.
You use acne treatments as necessary for as long as necessary.
Arguing over it is not helpful.
hi!
according to me there's no two ways about the age factor.
most(in fact 90% of the people) i know dnt have adult acne.
my mum used to have bad acne but not aftr 25.
same for my sister,aunt,brothers.
my cousin who's 30 do have acne issues but not often.
as for public or ppl i meet outside(sometimes random ppl) too dnt really have acne issues...MOST is the word here.
MOst dnt have them.
there's always issues..specially for women.hormones u see!
plus for some its genetic.
or sometimes lack of proper care can result in it.or may be cosmetic reasons, product or food intolerance etc
(am not saying all reasons are applied for all.may be one of the above reasons.or more than one).
am a med student.
and as far as my knowledge goes..it's primarily has an age group but there's always exceptions.
sadly in this case, the 'exception' (which in most other cases are a fewer in number) isn't as rare.
many have problems.
MOST don't.
