Has anyone else developed cystic acne since using the new white moisturizer?

My skin was so clear just some weeks ago and had been for a long time. I began using the new moisturizer and have since broken out worse than I have in years. I haven't had cystic acne maybe ever, I'm sure I've had a couple over the years but not like this. They started small, "blind" I think they're called.. and before I know it, what I think I'm properly treating with my normal routine has turned into 3 big cysts in a cluster on my cheek - none of them will come to a head, they're no longer sore but are still just as red, I assume they're healing but they're still raised and red. I wake up this morning and notice another one under the skin almost identical to how these started so I imagine this one will end up the same - BP won't treat these obviously. & another on one side of my nose that is big and bright red, but will not come to a head after warm compresses, hot showers, 5% BP for spot treatment, etc

My face looks worse right now than it did when I first ordered from the site. It's embarrassing - I had this figured out for years, this was my solution, my skin loved the yellow moisturizer. That is the only thing that has changed in the time that I've gone from 98% clear skin to the worst cystic breakout I've ever had.. Now I'm trying to figure out if I find a derm (I've never been to one, the regimen got me clear), find a new moisturizer (but god knows switching a product mid-breakout is maybe not the best idea), or just keep going and pray this is an unfortunate coincidence.

I'm just completely lost here. Im 32, I work a very professional job, and now I don't even want anyone to see me like this.

It would not make sense that its from the new moisturizer. None of the ingredients are comedogenic, and it actually has ingredients that should calm the skin.

However, feel free to use a different moisturizer. There are many good ones on the market. I personally have recently tried Aveeno Calm & Restore and I liked the ingredients and the skin feel. You could always try that.

Also, be sure to keep including AHA in your routine.

And lastly, for sure think about anything else that might be causing a breakout "out of the blue" like that. Usually it's either a new product (particularly sunscreens), or irritation (like wearing a mask).

Pretty sure the new product is the new moisturizer - I've been using a bottle with half the yellow kind and half the new stuff and that's finally run out, so have used the new white thick stuff (I know..) for a little while and it doesn't even absorb into my skin, I've seen a lot of people with the same issue. That's why I'm thinking it's the new moisturizer, nothing else has changed. Sucks to have to shop around after 8 years of a good product. Life though I guess!

I am working on a new formula. In fact, I have already sent out samples to a few people to see what they think of it and gotten mostly good feedback so far. I'll keep improving things as we go, and I am listening.

However, this is absolutely not to say that I think there's anything wrong with the current moisturizer. I like every ingredient in it, and I like how it performs. But we can always improve things, and I hear some of you who don't like it, and I think I can improve it for you.

Thank you for listening, Dan. I'll always appreciate and praise you for getting my skin clear those years ago with the regimen, the moisturizer change just isn't for me unfortunately. Glad to hear you're working on something better, excited to see the outcome.

Cystic acne is a severe and often painful form of acne, and it can be challenging to find benefits associated with this condition. However, there are a couple of potential silver linings:

  1. Early Detection of Underlying Health Issues: Cystic acne can sometimes be a symptom of underlying health problems, such as hormonal imbalances or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). While having cystic acne is not a benefit in itself, it can serve as an early warning sign, prompting individuals to seek medical attention and address these underlying health issues.
