Hello everyone. After some years of fighting against my acne issues by myself (alongside with some INCOMPETENT doctors too), I thought it wouldn't hurt to try to ask for opinions...
So, I'm currently 21 years old and been having acne since I was 15. More especifically, about to 3 to 5 weeks after I became e vegetarian. At first I thought it was normal, I mean, I was just getting out of puberty and my acne at the time wasn't severe, just bothersome. However... couple of months passed and it just kept getting worse, so I started trying out using some soaps, creams, and some other acne products you can buy at any drugstore. But they justwouldn'tstop popping up. I went to a couple of dermathologists then and to my disappointment, they never cared to try to find out the real cause to my problem. No matter how much I told them that my acne only started after I stopped eating meat (not dairy, not entirely anyway), they wouldallcome with the same answer: "This can't be the case. There is no relation between meat consumption and severe acne/pimples".
After being told this repeatedly, I finally started to believe it. I thought it should just be a coincidence, after all, what are the odds of them being wrong and I being right, right?
Things gotALOTbetter, however, after a doctor finally prescribed me Roacutan (isotretinoin). DUDE, I felt so happy. I literally couldn't recall the last time I faced myself in the mirror without feeling ashamed of my face.However...after a year, (i.e a couple of months ago), it got back. So then again I wentto many doctors and they were quite surprised, actually, since it seems patients who undergo isotretinoin medication have a 90% chance of never having acne again. Yea, I guess it's just my luck.
But then something happened... my little sister also became a vegetarian and her face is almost as bad as mine was at her age. So I started Googleing it, and if you do too, you'll find LOTS of people who went veg/vegan and experienced severe breakouts (some of them never had a single zit before). So that was it. I no longer could believe there is no correlation between those two factors. The amount of people who have gotten acne right after veg/vegan transition was just too many to be count as coincidence. So, having that in mind, I went to see a nutritionist (since if I was right it could only mean that I'm lacking some sort of nutrient). Who, guess what, told me the exact same thing dermatologists have been telling me: "There's no correlation between those two".
I immediatly left the clinic realizing that many doctors are just too lazy to try to figure out stuff. They just vomit what's likely to be the case, ignoring any possible exceptional cases that might show up.Really, they just don't listen. They think they're gods and their word is law. Of course some people quit meat and don't get acne afterwards. Actually, in some cases the skin actually improves. But everyone is different somehow, biologicaly speaking. What may be good for some is bad for others. So of course it won't always be the case, idiots.
So, the reason I came here is that after reading quite a bit on the forums, I've come to realize that there are many here like me: people who went to see doctors and just couldn't get their skin issues solved, so started trying stuff by themselves and achieved success (sometimes). So basically, I'm here today to ask such people for advices. People who also had mild/severe acne who ended up finding the solution by themselves.
Thank you for reading this.
Regards!
PS: No, going back to eating meat is not an option.
Edit: Some potentialy relevant testimonies regarding people with acne after quitting meat:

I find success getting rid of acne and keeping it at bay with diet n reduced stress levels. Me diet+stress =acne but something that works for you or me might not work for the next person. Me I keep my diet 50% Fruits/veg 20% meat/fish(chicken/fish) 20% carbs (oats/rice) 10% nuts/seeds but I might mix it up every now n then.
Which makes me think that I might be lacking Omega 3, since I also cut fish off my diet. That could be the case but I would like to hear other people's thoughts first...
I doubt it but don't get to overwork that it might or might not be the cause of your acne. Lol just relax n live life n eat right n don't worry to much it, also I don't know where you stay but where I am it's late you should get sleep. Sleep heals the body n mind. Have a bless morning
Your veg diet might be lower in zinc/ vitamin a./iron/protein/ omega 3/ b vitamins/ vitamin d. Eat free range eggs if you can for protein and zincAlso I would focus on lower GI carbs. I find bread and milk break me out personally. take a high quality algal oil supplement for your omega 3s. Take a high quality multivitamin. Eat sweet potato for vitamin a. Wh foods is a good resource for nutrition info. Use an app like fit day to work out your deficiencies

In my exams is stated that I have normal levels of Vitamin A, B12 and Vitamin D and Zinc. I'm starting to think it might be Vitamin E or indeed Omega 3 that I'm lacking... but hey, I didn't knew I could take Algal Oil for Omega 3 lol. So far (since fish is out of question for me) I was trying chia seeds but it seems to be bad for my intestines somehow... lol
I might try Algal Oil and multivitamin to see if it works.
I hope you're still getting protein somewhere. Protein is very essential to the function of cells, and without it, your cells would cease to communicate/function properly. If genetically susceptible to acne, your skin will display (like a huge red sign) if something in your body has been negatively affected (lack of proper nutrition/nutrients, basic food for cell function, environment, emotion, etc.).Which means that when you have a severe breakout after going veg/vegan, your body is telling you something is justreallywrong. I don't know your diet so I can't tell you what exactly the problem is, nor am I educated enough about diets.
If consumed in EXCESS, non-vegetarian foods like meat, eggs, milk and milk products are likely to cause an INCREASE in the number of acne and boils on the faces and bodies of young persons. The excessive consumption of foods rich in Vitamin B12 and COBALT can cause massive eruptions of acne and boils in young people who are SUSCEPTIBLE to acne.
The consumption of a lot of COCOA or CHOCOLATE can increase the number of acne, as they are very RICH in COBALT. Of course, COCOA and CHOCOLATE are vegetarian foods, but they are much WORSE than even non-vegetarian foods in causing acne and boils!! Vitamin E and SELENIUM can help in countering the harmful effects of the EXCESSES of Vitamin B12 and COBALT.
I don't know whether you are a young man or woman. In young men, the retention of SEMEN in their bodies for long periods can cause MASSIVE ERUPTIONS of acne in them. For more details on the subject read all my articles, which have been published on this website.
