Hello everyone.
I am 16, (I eat high carb low fat vegan) < including that so I can give you an idea of what I eat.
So this summer my skin has gotten horrible. I could control it pretty well when I ate even worse during the school year - when I was dehydrated, ate a lot of oil and other junk. But now I don't eat anything processed or junky and I have such bad acne. I really don't understand, the only thing that really changed was the kind of rice that I was eating (short grain to long grain) I am eating more fruit now but I thought since rice and potatoes have a high GI that that could be the reason I'm breaking out. My cleanser is just cetaphil cleanser and sometimes I use tria blue light and serum.
This is really upsetting me and I hope I can get some answers.
Please be kind!! I don't want to catch any abuse.
Thanks

Hey! I can kind of relate to you. Once I cleared up my acne from high school, I was fine for years and years after that. Didn't follow any special diet or skin care regimen or anything. In fact, I was pretty unhealthy a lot of the time since I was in college - sleep schedule all over the place, eating cheap food, stressed a lot, etc. But despite all that my skin was fine.

Last summer I somehow stumbled upon HCLF veganism and decided to try it. Along with my diet change, I also started becoming healthier in terms of taking better care of myself and becoming more active. Everything was fine and dandy for awhile, but 6 months in I started breakout out out of no where. My skin and hair also started becoming super oily. I was SO frustrated because I was the healthiest I've ever been in my life and my skin was blowing up.I stayed vegan for another 6 months and then quit it (that was about 1 month ago).

I obviously cannot say 100% that the diet caused it, but it certainly didn't help or prevent anything. Maybe it caused some weird deficiency or hormonal imbalance - I'll probably never know for sure. All I know is that I can't think of any other "cause". It just came out of no where at such a random time in my life (I'm 23, so I'm past the puberty acne stage).I've been treating my skin for the last few months with meds and it's finally almost all clear. However, it is still far from what it was before all of this - I still have scars and I'm still struggling with oiliness.

I am not trying to hate on veganism or anything. I really enjoyed being vegan and was so upset when all of this started happening - I felt like everyone else in the world who went vegan raved about how their skin became so flawless and all that etc etc etc. I also felt ashamed trying to convince my friends & family of the benefits of veganism while they were probably looking at my face go from clear to broken out thinking "Why would I go vegan when it gave her acne?".A lot of people stress maintaining a healthy diet & lifestyle when it comes to clearing acne, but after this whole experience I just don't believe it anymore.

So, I am not saying that you being vegan is causing your acne, but I felt that your situation is similar to me so I just wanted to share my thoughts!
