Dry skin after eliminating dairy and sugar - do I moisturize?

Hi everyone, 19 year old guy here looking for some guidance.

About 5 weeks ago I eliminated all dairy and sugar from my diet because of my severe cystic acne (which I've previously treated with all kinds of medications), and I have definitely seen some improvement, of course I'm in no way clear/cured yet. I also avoid the vast majority of foods considered unhealthy, and of course I never eat fast food of any kind. My face cleansing regimen consists only of washing it 2x a day with a normalizing cleanser (Paula's Choice clear acne cleanser), I never use any other products on my face.

While I'm happy with the way things have been going, eating healthy seems to be leaving my skin really dry - it's the most noticeable right after I wash my face, and then after a few hours it doesn't look as dry because of the oil production I guess - it doesn't look dry at all when half the day has passed. It looks pretty flaky in some areas immediately after washing it. My question is, should I leave my skin dry like this? In general, my face has been getting less oily than before my diet changes, and that should be a good thing since that means less sebum is being produced - but I'm wondering if I should use some kind of gel-based moisturizer for it to prevent the dryness?

I've experienced pretty much the same thing in the beginning of my new diet, at that time I knew I was on the right track so I stoppet using any acne products, cleansers etc nowI onlyrinsewithwater.

Your dietary changes are working and only after 5 weeks, took me a little bit more. May I ask what your diet looks like?

I don't eat a very varied diet (college student), it's usually the same few meals over and over - for breakfast I have oatmeal w/ a couple fruits. Other than that I eat stuff like eggs, sandwiches (healthy, home-made), chicken, sweet potatoes, hummus, couscous, rice. When it comes to snacks I eat a lot of fruit, usually 5-6 fruits a day, I also snack on veggies. Also, I already did this before eliminating dairy/sugar, but I only everdrink water, coffee and tea. I could be a bit better at avoiding certain processed stuff, like sometimes I eat turkey hot dogs w/my eggs, and I sometimes treat myself with Pringles (original flavor that doesn't have sugar) onthe weekend, but in general this is all that I eat.

How's rinsing your face with only water working for you?

Ok thank you, I eat somewhat more restricted than that, but I will soon try to eat more carbs like sweet potato and brown rice.

Well acne has been eliminatedcompletely so, but when I startet it was a big mess, but then again it was a mess before too so. I just stoppet using things on my face because it really never did anything.
