How's it going everyone

I haven't been on here for the past 10 months and that's because I finally solved my acne issues after 12 years. After 12 miserable years of waking up every morning, looking into the mirror and seeing new spots starting to form, I had had enough. Here is a link to my story

Long story short, I went on antibiotics (Doxy 100mg) when I was 16, for 3 months. Went back on them when I was 21. Took Doxy 100mg for 3 months and then 200mg for 6months. Became resistant to Doxy and switched to 100mg Mino for 5 months. Antibiotics were the only thing that kept me 100% clear.

But on my 4th month on Mino, I finally realized I can't to live on antibiotics for the rest of my life. I did my research and found it was making matters worse and it was true. Whenever I stopped antibiotics I had a horrible horrible breakout.

I tried every single natural cure, even got Epiduo, stopped eating high GI food, kept a food diary and nothing would make sense. I kept getting random breakouts. I knew my acne was related to my food but I couldnt figure out what was wrong with my diet. My only source of sugar would be a banana or an apple every day. No chocolates, chips, soda or junk food. Absolutely nothing. But I would still break out. I eliminated eggs, milk, tea, coffee, ketchup basically dairy and sugar.

Anyways, back in September, I had to go back to uni and I realized it'll be another year of trying to avoid socializing. I went to stay with my brother for a couple of weeks right before school started. Guess what? My skin cleared upp!!

How? I realized my brother did not eat a lot of fruits and so I had to live without my daily fruit intake. My skin started to clear up and I was really excited. I went back to uni and did not touch bananas or apples and guess what. I'd barely get any breakouts. My breakouts would be focused around my mouth, chin and nose and filled with pus and anyone who has had this type of acne would know its the worst!

So I did a little experiment and stayed away from all types of sugar - fruits, some vegetables and junk food. After a few weeks, I had some grapes and broke out in a couple of days! It went away in 2 or 3 days. Couple of weeks later I had a banana again and broke out again! It cleared up really fast but 3 weeks later I tried out some ice cream and broke out again.

I finally figured out that sugar had been the main reason for my breakouts. What was even better was that I would finally be able to control my acne.

However, I love sugar and have a sweet tooth and not being able to eat chocolates and other junk food would really sadden me. So I started introducing sugar back into my diet very slowly. I started off with tea without twice a week to see if caffeine had any effect on my acne. It didnt. I slowly started having tea with 1 teaspoon of sugar thrice a week. I would get little break outs but nothing major. This was in Nov 2014. I stuck with this for a month and finally I think my body got used to it and I stopped breaking out. I added a croissant in Dec 2014, twice a week. Got a few break outs for 3 weeks and then I got used to that as well.

Finally in Feb,I gave in after 1.5 years of no chocolates, cakes and sweet candies and had a huge slice of cake bec I had a week off to myself and was like I will recover by the time I have to go back to uni. I ordered some mint tea with that because everything else looked way too sweet. I went back home that night knowing I will break out like crazy within a few days. However, I just got a small spot on my chin, which I'm not sure was because of the cheesecake or the fruit I had a day before that and it went away. I started to think about it and finally realized that maybe I was sensitive to certain types of sugar. Or maybe the green mint tea somehow helped me. I had heard about mint helping out with lowering blood sugar levels but was never sure about it. Ever since then, I have been having a slice of cake every month or so with green mint tea and my breakouts are minor. However, I remember having cake without mint tea once and I had a pretty bad breakout.

I don't know if the mint tea is helping. I'm not sure why sugar causes me to breakout. All I care about is that finally after relying on antibiotics and creams and feeling totally lost and depressed, I have figured out what causes me to breakout. I don't know how I can actually fix this. Im not sure if I am only sensitive to certain types of sugar or insulin resistant or what but I am glad that acne is no longer an issue for me. I know what causes me to breakout and I know how to control it.

I hope this post will help someone out there. It has been 10 months now and I have not had a major outbreak.

If anyone knows how to cure my sugar problem, feel free to leave some tips behind. If someone wants to try out what I did or has any questions, shoot me a message or post stuff here. Will be glad to help you guys out.

I think I read in a post by alternativista that spice are anti-inflammatory and that high GI food are inflammatory. What if I combine something like fruits and a mix of spices? Would that help the breakouts I get because of fruits? The fruits that usually break me out are strawberries, grapes and bananas. Even if I have one strawberry, I get a breakout the next day around my mouth.

Anyone experiences the same or got any tips for this? I hate staying away from fruits due to high sugar and other sugary food but its the only thing that keeps me 100% clear.

@silverlight22 I am glad you posted this and got rid of your dermatitis. My story is so simillar to yours and the spots you circled on your other post were exactlywhere I get mine, especially under my bottom lip - hurts like hell. I have had pd for about a year now on and off minocycline. I have eliminated all gluten, soy from my diet and it definitely helped as it should for anybody but it didnt clear my face completely. So the last thing I thought it could be is a nickel allergy Ive been using a stainless steel coffee maker for the past year right around when my pd started to begin. I have been off mino for 3 days and my face is pretty bad and sore; I am going to try and stay off mino for awhile I need to find the root cause of this an'd not cover it up with antibiotics.

Any other tips you can give me? Are you still clear from not eating fruit?

Anything will help.
Thanks

Hey Einstine,

What's your diet like? And do you have pd or acne? In my case I thought I had pd but realized it was just acne (i'd get these small pustules around my mouth nose and chin region) which would kind of clutter up and sometimes give off this yellowy discharge (gross I know). By staying off of fruits and any source of sugar, my acne completely went away. I slowly introduced sugar back into my diet, in very small amounts though. Started off with tea three times a week with 1tsp of sugar and then started including small amounts of sugar (maybe a small piece a week). But if i stayed away from any type of sugar, i would be able to be completely clear. I realized spicy food did nothing to make my acne worse.
