So, I took accutane in high school and ever since then whenever I use any chemicals whatsoever on my face it becomes overwhelmingly red and greasy, so for the last couple of years I've just been washing with cold water. Every time I've done this though, my face becomes super dry and crusts over, and I've read that this can either be seborrheic dermatitis, the skin healing itself, or something else entirely.
Well about two weeks ago I thought that maybe some of the chemicals on my hands were transferring over to my face when I washed it, so I decided to fill up a water bottle with cold water and then pour that onto my face instead. I've been doing this once a day, along with drying my face off with paper towels afterwards, and for some reason the dryness on my face has gone way down. Where before, when I used my hands to splash cold water onto my skin, my face would start to crust over and become generally gross looking. And now that my hands don't come into contact with my face at all, it seems to look a lot less dry. Although there is still some dryness and flaking.
I was just wondering if this means I could have some sort of bacterial infection or something like that on my face, because of all the germs and bacteria on my hands that could have transferred over. Or if anyone has any thoughts or input on what's happening to my skin, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
This is something that I have thought about, how our hands transfer bacteria or yeast to our faces ,and also from our feet .
I also think that fungal infection can be transferred from our feet to our body and face.
No wonder they make fungal spray for feet.
You got me thinking now ,because sometimes when I get flaky, dry hands from whatever could that be ,doctors said it's contact dermatitis,I would say its fungus .
You don't say if you breakout, and probably like you said,it could be some seborrheic dermatitis forming a film on the skin ,trapping oil.
My son was using cerave foaming face wash in the summer and when he came to visit he said that he was getting dry skin, so he switched to the hydrating cleanser from cerave and if he has breakouts only uses acnomel for spot treatment, very light, cause that acnomel can dry a pimple really fast.
He also doesn't shave often, most of the time he grows a beard.
Also if you are flaking on your scalp maybe it's seborrheic dermatitis.
Oh I forgot, he also treats his feet with tinactin spray.
Probably because I mentioned that I had read somewhere that fungus can be transferred from feet to other parts of our body.
That's quite interesting. I would like to know if you washed your face with tap water before? Because bottled water are usually distilled or filtered water, so they have less impurities and dissolved salts. Maybe the dissolved salts or even fluoride may be causing your dryness? I don't know, but obviously if it works for you, continue doing it. And I doubt the bacteria are causing your dryness, they have nothing to do with moisture. Bacteria actually need moisture to grow, metabolize, and reproduce. Don't dry out your skin, because your body will secrete more sebum in an effort to maintain homeostasis, thus creating an ideal environment for Propionibacterium acnes ( bacteria that aggravates acne ) to thrive.
I badly damaged my face with overuse of benzoyl peroxide. I use to smear it all over my cheeks, forehead, and nose. The result was a unflattering skin texture [Fine lines all over face, patches, skin pulling,] and SUPER DRY SKIN. This made my sebum glands overreact to the dry skin and mass produce oil so I had it pretty bad. I used organic cold pressed hemp seed oil
EMU oil, which is super powerful and penetrates every layer of the skin. and Argan oil
My mask
2 drips emu oil
1 drip hemp seed oil
1 drip agran oil
Emu oil as I said penetrates all layers and helps bring the hemp seed oil and argan oil deeper into the skin. Now almost a year later my skin is 95% back to it normal state. My sebum glandes stabilized and I don't look like crap in the sun anymore!
