I barley ever drink anymore but some situations it is hard to avoid it when going out with friends. Which type would have the least negative effects. I know to stay away from sugary mixed drinks and limit consumption so would shots of gin or liquor (dark or light) be best or a red wine (i know it has antioxidant properties). Always any specific brands of alcohol you guys know that aren't that bad in sugar/calories or gluten free?
I drink on occasion Merlot or white Zin. I guess i just watch the calories/carbs because that seems to make the difference for me anyway. I believe Merlot has like 100-130 calories per serving. Serving being the key here. Two is enough for me in a given time. I don't drink to get drunk anyhow, i enjoy it more as a social beverage with friends and socializing.
So my only advice would be to know the calorie and carb content and limit consumption via number of servings. However, im not an alcohol connoisseur so 'm not sure which kinds are best for you.
Good pinot noir usually will have one of the lowest sugar contents for wine. I say good because most cheap wines add sugar to sweeten the wine. Dry wines tend to have about 50% less sugar than sweet wines but the difference is only between say 4 and 6 grams per bottle. Dry red has less sugars than dry whites (which taste like ass imo). If you are just worried about sugar, liquors are probably what you are looking for. Drinking lightly will play a bigger role in how your body responds than the type of alcohol consumed. You can always get a selzer if you need something in your hand.
edit: font and dryness
I used to think vodka was the "best" for skin because it's the purest. And that beer is too full of grains and carbs and all that jazz. But now I don't think diet really affects my skin, unless I eat something that makes my face flush (which leads to a breakout). Hard liquor makes my face flush, but beer doesn't. So I drink beer (just 1-3 at a time) and I've never noticed it affecting my skin.
