Hi, I've been away from this site for several months.
I started the Paula's Choice Clear System in May 2013...it broke me out after 2 weeks and I became 95% clear after finishing the first BHA bottle. (Now on the 3rd)
At the same time I was taking some supplements including:
Vit C
Opti-Zinc
Saw Palmetto
Curcumin
Betacarotene
NAC
Triple Mushroom
Probiotics
and some more
As I keep researching about herbs and supplements, I added B5 to my regimen.
I started taking 1 gram of B5 in September. I don't know if it helped at all but my skin remained nearly the same without it, which was 95% clear and I was very happy.
In Nov 2013, I had a sinus infection. I saw a doctor and got some pills to take, including anti-biotic.
While looking for stuff to help sinus problem I found 'oil of oregano' and so I ordered a capsule form from Gaia herb. Although the sinus infection had already gone, I decided to try the oregano on Dec 25. For the spirulina, I could not recall when I took it, but I ordered it from Swansons and so far had taken only twice, 2 pills each time but I do know I took it when I already had started oil of oregano.
I got BO on the area I usually don't have acne, mainly the area next to my nose (above on the sinuses). My BO was mainly on the right side. When I extracted it, some was puss and some was whiteheads.
The BO started about 18 days ago, now it is calm and I am left with red mark. Time will heal it as when I got BO from Paula's Choice products.
My question is, can 4 pills of spirulina cause BO? I heard that it contains a lot of iodine? I get acne every time I eat seaweed.
Or this is a die-off effect from oil of oregano?
I feel very good after taking oil of oregano. I've been having stomach problem since 2009. If I eat too much I get bloating. But now that problem is almost 100% gone.
I'd like to continue with it, but on the bottle it says not to take it more than 4 weeks. After reading several articles, I am confused because some say you can take it everyday as it does not kill good bacteria, just like this thread for example:
Some say it kills good bacteria and so you have to take probiotics as well (yes I am taking it too, a few hours after oil of oregano).
Some say it is not safe to take daily as it harms your liver and kidney. Please spend a little time reading this, the author confuses me:

I would like to have your opinion whether should I stop taking oil of oregano for a week or two and get back on it ? If I do that, will taking it for the 2nd round break me out like the first time? Or should I keep the maintenance dose, say one pill every 2 days? Or it is actually safe and that I can take 1 capsule daily? Please help shed some light on this issue.
And what do you think about the spirulina?
I try to eat healthy and have cut off dairy products, still sometimes I cheat by having yoghurt 😉
Spirulina can break some people out, and so can oregano oil. It's hard to tell with both if they are causing a temporary detox reaction or if the breakouts are just your body's way of telling you it doesn't like those supplements. I use oregano oil topically and have to problems with it, but I think it can be too strong taken internally. Instead of spirulina, have you tried chlorella? It can have a similar effect in terms of helping your body detox.
If you react to things with iodine like seaweed, you might have a thyroid issue or you might have too much iodine in your blood.

Thanks WishClean...I will look into the chlorella thing. There are so many detox herbs out there such as burdock root, milk thistle, and much much more.
Some people try clean diet and still suffer from acne so I don't know if detoxing helps reduce acne.
Actually I am doing much better compared to my teenage years...I have gone through 4 courses of low dose Accutane and I do not wish to mess with it again and so looking for natural stuff but then was warned about using supplements as it can harm our bodies.
I wonder if antioxidant supplements can be toxic such as curcumin, grapeseed extract, astaxanthin, ALA, and those that have anti-inflammatory benefit like oil of oregano and olive leaf extract. Actually these things are food it is supposed to be good and safe as long as we don't overdose on it?
What do you guys think?
