Hello, everyone! I have been a long time lurker here and I finally registered into this account because I wanted to talk about my experience with the caveman regimen. It's been a week and I plan on updating it. To start of, I am a 23-year-old female who has suffered from mild-moderate acne since I was 16. My skin is sensitive and oily. I decided to try the caveman regimen because when I moved into the dorm a week ago, my skin started to get extremely irritated despite having used the products for a long time without any problems. I got really desperate so I decided to give my skin a break and try to build my acid mantle again. It was all or nothing.

Mind you I did this regimen before my period (I was feeling the usual symptoms) and usually I would get these large, painful cysts around my chin and pustules in my cheeks. However, my skin only got ONE cyst which turned into a head overnight and as for pustules, there were from bumps that's always been on my face and suddenly turned into a head as well. Blackheads were also easy remove. (I couldn't help myself.)

One the first night to the regimen, what I did was splashed my face with water as I showered and let it air dry. I try not to touch my face and it was weird! I was so used to taking so much time washing my face and now, my morning routine is quicker. I tend to splash water on my face every night when I shower.

The only bad thing that came out of this is the dermatitis that I got. I always get dermatitis around the corners of my mouth so don't fret! Now I wash just the corners of my mouth while I just splash water on my face every night.

This is my update so far! Hope I helped someone and I will be updating every week!

2nd week update!

Due to my dermatitis, I had to change up the caveman regimen. I now add my trusty neutrogena moisturizer after i splash water on my face. My period came and I was glad to see that my acne was not as bad compared to when I used my old products. However, my acne got worse over the course of the week! A lot of pustules and tiny red bumps have appeared and I'm disheartened :( Most of my pimples show up on my right cheek and chin which used to be my problem areas when I first had acne. I'm not sure if I should continue the regimen now

I did this a year ago, after 2 weeks I caved. I would have liked for it to work, but I was not willing to look like complete garbage while being in university. I would rather submit to product usage and atleast look decent , rather than look like an absolute mess with uncertainty about its ultimate success. If I didn't have to go out in public for the next 6 months, I might seriously follow through with this endeavour .

The Caveman Regimen is honestly one of the stupidest things to do if your skin is used to being washed/moisturized daily. It's an extreme option that's obviously going to negatively affect your skin while your skin adjusts to the lack of constant washing. What you should do is gradually ease off your skincare regimen day by day and let your skin have time to adapt. The goal should be to have normal, healthy skin by just washing your face morning and night like everyone else does. Going to extreme measures is only going to make things worse. You have to compare yourself to other people. What do you do that other people with clear skin don't do? For one, most people don't need to use any chemicals on their face to have clear skin. It's just naturally able to defend and repair itself. That should be your goal. Treat acne internally, not externally.

You don't have to look like garbage, the extreme measures taken by many following this'caveman' regimen are nonsense. Not stripping away your acid mantle with cleansers and not damaging epidermal barrier function with antibacterial, pro oxidant, and other chemicals is good. But hat doesn't mean you can't wash your face with water or haven spend weeks with dead skin on your face.

I haven't washed anything but my hands & hair with any kind of soap in years. But I wash my face daily, oil cleanse or moisturizer with oil, etc. and get compliments on my beautiful skin.
