Hi,
I have been taking Natren's Healthy Trinity for sometime now. It makes me feel really good. However I want to know how long will it take to build up my gut flora after long term antibiotics.?
I firmly believe food intolerances which is what I have now is due to dysfunctional gut flora.
My bowels became much better after introducing probiotics. I feel healthier.
I would ideally like to only have yogurt and may be kefir and kimchi and stop supplementing.
How long is ideal to take the supplement? Any long term side effects on taking a probiotic supplement.?
If you haven;t noticed a problem yet, then I don't think there are any negative side effects. some people have issues with the dairy source. And I think some people can't take the probiotic growth when their digestive tract lining is damaged. But I don't know that much about it. I just know that plant mucin is good for your mucin, so eat slimy, gelatinous things like aloe vera, cactus, flax, chia, purslane, okra, etc.
As for how long to restore your gut flora, some researchers say you never recover. But I couldn't read the details of the study to see what they really studied. There are always flaws.

Thanks Aana and Alternativista...I will probablly also ask my GP.
But Vista, I am pretty intrigued about Bacillus Coagulans. Will look into it. I love the fact that it also does not need to be refrigerated, perfect for on the go.
Aana you need to experience them to tell...Not only a derm but I havre had terrible experiences with urologists for my recurrent UTIs.
Honestly I still ask for advise before taking medication for me or my husband in the last few months to my doctor back in India.
Once bitten twice shy!!
honestly,i think its best to ask ur doctor.
not just a theory, they will have experience.
Not the typical American doctor.
oh!
okay.
there's a general conception that medical facilities in the US or in the west is way better than my country.
its primarily the technology that is great there plus the lab methods and books on medicine.
but about advices or holistic approach to body,i guess they are way too dependent on techie and medi to even stop or slow down!!
i always thought u're a guy.lol!

Yes. We have lots of expensive stuff. And then the hospitals and clinics need to pay for that stuff. By charging lots of money to use it as much as possible.

we crave to do masters in medicine & surgery abroad(particularly in the US) because the technology and the modern equipment there are mind blowing!
most hospitals cant afford them(not for students at least) but at the end of the day these stuff only work for diseases which can't be TREATED by simpler ,more 'down to earth' methods.
i was reading an article on medical expenses and it does seem pretty high there!its good that for general purposes(not dermatology in all cases) mediclaims(or as u all call it insurance) is a saviour!
in my country, money is a issue but only for GOOD doctors.
if u have simple cold and want to visit a doc,u can get one without paying sky high fees.
plus insurance is not something most have here.
we pay.
some have mediclaims(the number of clients is growing with time) but the terms there are insane.
i want to get some hormone tests done(not that its urgent or anything) but for that i will have to pay (even though i have a mediclaim) why?
because to claim the money,i must be admitted in a nursing home or hospital.
*phew*
dermatology is not an option in mediclaim btw!
but but, here many doctors still consider aspects like food, hygiene(both good and bad habits),lifestyle etc as contributors.
people still believe in home remedies(which is sometimes considered 'backward' by some westerners) or take up healing processes like accupuncture, ayurveda, herbal stuff , lifestyle modification etc
This is exactly what I love about doctors in India.
My family physician never told me take this pill and you will be fine. He always told me take this pill but also eat x,y and z. Take rest and you will heal.
When I had recurrent UTIs I went thru so many tests here I felt like Im 60!! My mom was worried about the things I was getting done and wanted me to come back to India to get treated.
I have never had so many tests my entire life. And they still did not have a diagnosis.!!
But they are very good with acute cases like surgeries etc.My husband had one and me also , both sports related. And I think we have got some awesome care for those.

And it's just been announced here that it's better not to take the antibiotics they always prescribe for UTIs and many other issues. Like children's ear infections.
And research claiming that we possibly never recover from damaged deficient digestive flora.
