If I'm trying to eat meals with a low glycemic load, how bad would it be to eat rotisserie chickens from the grocery store? Today I looked at the ingredients of the rotisserie chicken at HEB and sugar was listed lower in the the ingredients. Would it still be ok to eat these on a regular basis if I avoid the skin? I love rotisserie chicken, and it's so convenient and affordable.

I usually just take the skin off the chicken and eat it that way, I think that would be fine.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that would be fine. Here's the ingredients for the chicken I had tonight: chicken, water, salt, sodium phosphates, dextrose, whey protein concentrate. The last two ingredients are what concern me. I don't even know why whey protein concentrate would need to be in a chicken.

First of all, only carbohydrates are even categorized into low or high glycemic so you don't need to worry about meats/fish. It is always better to eat free range/hormone free meat if you can afford it. I know Sam's club and costco sell hormone free cooked rotisserie chickens. You shouldn't stress yourself out too much about food though or that alone will probably cause more acne lol.
you do realize that farmers can feed chickens arsenic right?
I can't imagine the chicken I got was fed arsenic. But what exactly is your point, that I should not eat chicken at all?

I got the hormone free "natural" kind from HEB so I think it's good
And meat itself doesn't have a glycemic index, but couldn't a marinade or sauce you cook it in cause it to spike your blood sugar? For example, marinating in sugar or adding a dry rub containing sugar.
Yes, i would not reccomend chicken. If you want to eat meat, either eat wild caught fish, or pasture raised red meat
I can't give up chicken lol. Is this a problem with organic chicken as well, or just regular chicken?
Arsenic is also in fish, other poultry, rice, drinking water and many other foods. A lot of farmers have stopped using it. If your chicken is "hormone antibiotic free organic" you'll be fine.
I like it when people post links so, here ya go!

Arsenic is probably in farmed fish, but don't see how it can possibly be in wild caught fish.
Interesting article. I would still stay away from chickens, unless they are on a 100% pasture raised diet.
In most of human history, we did not consume chickens.
