Water Fast Vs Intermittent Fasting?

I've been reading about fasting and I'm definitely going to do it, both for my skin and for overall health benefits. I'm wondering if it's better to do a straight water fast where I consume nothing but water for a few days, or if I should do intermittent fasting where I eat all my food within an 8 hour window and then fast for 16 hours.

And on the topic of intermittent fasting, how long should it be kept up? Thanks

Intermittent fasting is a way of eating always, not meant to be a temporary thing. although you don't have to do it daily. Any time you do it would provide some benefit. I would not water fast.

Ok, could you guys shed some insight on why water fasting isn't good? I have read tons of testimonies that it's incredibly healing, but is there an unhealthy side to it as well?

the non-scientific answer from me is that it's ridiculous. water fast, apple fast, whatever other stupid things are out there... idk who comes up with them. your body is an engine and it needs energy. i think you're looking for a quick fix or shortcut, and there just aren't any. you have to examine your diet, figure out your triggers, and avoid them. i'm sure alternativista will have a legit answer for you.

you may improve over those three days because you are inadvertently avoiding your dietary triggers, but then when you binge on the fourth day it'll be back to business as usual - you won't be healed. i do IF because i am cutting weight and it makes it easier for me. i can't comment on it's effects on acne for me, although i've read that it has benefits.

I did a water fast for 3 days. I did not see any tangible benefits. In fact, I developed GI problems after I started eating again, what seemed to be an almost chronic form of SIBO. I think what happened was I changed my internal environment too quickly, and as a result, bacterias had to compete for resources. In my case, I guess the bad guys won. I found relief after taking berberine and ACV for a couple weeks

I think intermittent fasting is a much better way to do things. I have more energy when I do it, although haven't recently because I've been lazy :P

Well there is a lot of scientific evidence to support it from what I've read. I'm not an expert so I can't comment on how much of it is accurate or not but some doctors and scientists have claimed that it can even go so far as to cure diseases. I don't see why they would lie about it because water fasting is completely free, so it's not like they're trying to push a product or prescription.

But you're totally right about the diet thing, I'm definitely going to start improving my diet as well.
