Could Severe/chronic Stress Cause Skin Changes?

Could prolonged severe and chronic stress cause permanent skin changes? In the past year or so, I have seemed to develop skin colored bumps (that are quite big, maybe it is classified as sebacious hyperplasia), all over my cheeks, jaw and chin area. They are skin colored, and most are quite large.

Could the stress I have had (1.5 years of prolonged chronic stress, typically severe) have induced this? Or could it be genetic, because my brother has them as well, but to a MUCH less extent than I do.

From my own experience stress has been the biggest trigger of acne for me so I would say yes.

"when your body is stressed, the increase in stress hormones can throw off your equilibrium and you can experience all sorts of changes, such as weight gain, increased blood pressure, and worsened acne. Experts are divided on whether stress creates acne or just worsens it, but it does increase the amount of oil your skin secretes, which can clog pores and cause breakouts."

I think it could advance aging and that would be permanent even though you can still do things to improve that.

I don't think it could cause permanant acne related harm, to the skin, that is.

Stress could have caused digestive issues that led to food intolerances.

I think it caused digestive issues which led to food intolerances. If i control my stress, will these go away?

Chronic stress can definitely mess up your hormonal balance. Also, stress usually comes with a change in other patterns, such as bad eating habits. Are you turning to comfort food to control your stress, or are you not eating enough due to stress? That could be a factor as well. Have you tried acupuncture? It has really helped me manage my stress. Exercise and casual walking also help tremendously with keeping stress levels at bay.

yes stress does cause acne. it sounds very cliche etc, but i am pretty much 100% clear when i go low carb. but low carb makes me feel very grumpy sometimes, becuase i do better on higher carbs(mood wise), so i remember i would just snap and get into arguements with my parents because of feeling like crap on low carb, then i would break out in cysts on my chin, but i was always clear when on low carb and pretty much ate the same stuff everyday, so i couldnt pinpoint why i was breaking out all of a sudden, then i realised i was very stressed and getting mad for no reason. i hear because when yo u get stressed your cortisol levels shoots up.
