I know there have been quite a few posts lately with similar topics, but I can't find an exact answer to my question.
Over the summer I started lifting heavy weights 3x a week. This caused my skin to be extremely oily and broken out so I stopped lifting, mostly because of how uncomfortable the excessive oil production was. I haven't exercised regularly since then except for walking a few miles every week. I'd really like to start working out again, but I'm so nervous that my skin is going to go crazy. Are there any types of exercise that will not cause the acne and oil? I was thinking possibly hiit, but I don't know if that would be good for my skin either.
Also, does anyone know why weight lifting causes skin problems in some people? I thought the increase in hormone levels from weight lifting was only temporary, but after I lift it takes several days for my skin to return to normal.
So your skin only breaks out when you weight lift? Or exercise in general? Do you sweat a lot? You should shower prior to working out and immediately after and even use something like an oxy pad on your skin so that it is extremely clean. Sweat won't cause acne by itself. Sweat mixed with bacteria on the skin will break you out. I can only speak from personal experience but exercising has always helped my acne as long as my skin is clean prior.

My skin is acne prone, and I've taken accutane in the past. Right now I'm using Metformin and BCP to control my acne because it is hormonal in nature. I've never been a huge exerciser, mainly because my body is naturally thin. I can really only comment on what weight lifting does to my skin, not other types of exercise which is why I'm asking the question. I can say however that the acne and oily skin is not caused by sweat. Even if I was my face before and after lifting my skin reacts exactly the same way.
