Hi everyone,
Is there a way to know for sure if your hormones might be contributing to your acne? I have cystic acne and even when my skin was at it's best I always have cysts on my neck, chin and small but painful spots on my head. Just wondering if there was a way of testing this (even at an expense) without pursuing potential treatment options that may take months to work?
There are tests that vary in prices depending on the depth of testing. I have been researching myself and for the most indepth test I have found, the price is 750 privately. I don't know where in the world you are, but if in the UK you could try getting transferred through the NHS for testing. However, I have tried this with little success. Like Derms, GP's seem intent that acne and hormones are not related. Your Doctor may hopefully be more sympathetic than mine.
Good luck in what you decide, I think hormones are definitely worth ruling out.
you can get a hormone test done from your doctor but from what i have read lately the saliva tests are way more reliable than just getting bloodwork done. if you are a chick i have read that they need to collect saliva samples every other day in the 28 day cycle to get a reliable reading of your hormones. something to think about for sure.

I think you have a retard for a doctor, 99% of doctors agree that acne and hormones are strongly related. I've never met a GP who did not agree with that and I've seen 15 different ones in my life so far. Even the NHS page on acne highlights the link between acne and hormones. Honestly, just switch GPs.

Retarded is polite for the bunch of GP's at my surgery. And yes a swap is on the cards.
I thought for the longest that my acne was hormonal bc it was most severe around my jaw line, neck, and chin area. I am clear now and it was bc of candida and other gut related issues, not hormonal. Not saying this is the same for you but i thought i'd chime in.
How do they test for candida?
