Gosh, who did your ultrasound, the friend next door who has an aged x-ray stashed in his basement? Seriously, cysts+lack of ovulation+acne more or less equals PCOS. Look into that, it has a great restrictive diet you can try to follow to handle it (YAY, right?
) also look into farinetta and aminopril. Btw, you demotivate me, gluten and dairy free doesn't help? I am 4 months into the diet and yeah, it didn't do much so far, but I hope for it to change drastically anyday now
but seriously. I'm giving it two more months.
Lol, well I might as well have been getting the next door neighbour to diagnose me for all the help Drs have been over the last 20 years. It isn't really as simple as that with me though. I don't have what Drs define as pcos because I don't have the syndrome - no problems with hormones, they are all the right levels and correct ratios between them. So I have pco instead.
Nevertheless I am following a diet for pcos anyway, so gluten and dairy are both out. In addition I am following the other parts of the Good Things thread because there are other factors involved in pcos not just diet. This isn't going to be enough though, it will need something stronger to help. Good luck with your diet x
I have been only once diagnosed with hormone imbalance, hormones fluctuate, especially in women, so it's hard to pinpoint. The only luck I've ever had with dealing my acne, at least minimizing the extent of it, was when my doc decided to treat me regardless from my tests' results, based on my symptoms and her experience.
An my hormone imbalance was DHEA-S two times exceeding the norm. Go figure, no problem with adrenal health or PCO, but... well, doctors aren't even sure if symptoms such as acne derive from pcos, or precede it because they have the same root cause that is some issues with sugar metabolism, and if you have multiple cysts on your ovaries which keep you from ovulating then... that's what pcos basically is. And I know well enough most docs are helpless, I've had my share of them and I guess I can draw some conclusions and the major one is, you're the only one truly concerned with your health and that's why you're the only one responsible for it.
Btw, for the first time in my life since I got my period I haven't got one this month, so, not so good with me either. Good luck with your diet as well
Agreed. I am trying to do ALL those things to the best of my abilities. Needless to say, some people like myself will not cure/control acne with diet alone especially if other factors are involved. Diet is a powerful thing but it is not the only thing.....not for me at least. Glad some people get relief from acne from diet
No, diet is not the only thing. There's lifestyle too, such as the stress I mentioned.
SSach I know this post is old but i can definitely relate.
I'm so sick of dermatologists who just prescribe pills that I end up having an alleric reaction to
I have been seeing a naturopath for a couple months, I have done strict elimination diets, food allergy testing, apparntly I have leaky gut syndrome, which I have a hard time believing is an accurate diagnosis based on the fact that my stomach was never even looked at.
anyways i am at the end of my rope and thinking of taking the accutane plunge
Well, if you do paleo diet, it doesnt mean, that individually there is something your body cant 'tolerate' or has an 'allergy' to. And to be honest your acne doesnt look that bad judging by your gallery on your profile. If i am right the paleo diet consists of nuts, meat, fish, eggs, vegetables and fruit. It is possible you are allergic or intolerant to certain vegetables, or nuts. As i have read that this is common to be allergic to nuts and eggs. And also to certain fruits. But not ALL fruits ofcourse. just certain things that could keep you from getting clear. Some people only have to cut out sugar for example, like alternavista and they are clear.

It is great that you are giving the natural route a try before considering checmials. I am not a fan of accutane even though i am on it but i do believe for acne that has not been improved using other means, it is an option to consider. Please weigh your pros and cons though as this drug can have some knarly side effects
