While at sephora, a sales associate told me that her secret to beautiful skin had been found in drinking lots of White Tea.. Every day. Now I have heard plenty about green tea but did some reason to find some scientific speculation that white tea may actually be better for the skin than green!? I had never heard this before and was wondering if anyone has had success (even just moderate improvements) with white tea?

Thanks!

I've heard that white tea has a greater amount of antioxidants than green tea - so maybe that's why?

I haven't tried it for acne myself though and I don't know of any scientific or clinical studies either

White vs. green tea

Some people claim that white tea is even healthier than green tea. Unfortunately theres no good definition of what white tea means and most studies dont even mention white tea as separate category. I did found a few studies that compared black, green and white. In this study white and green tea had very similar ECGC and flavonoid levels.

Interestingly one study noted that white tea had almost double the caffeine content of green tea.

Basically white is much like green tea. No evidence to say it's any better than green tea. Both have very similar antioxidant levels.

There are, at least in very early scientific research, signs that white tea may have skin-specific friendly effects...

This article talks about the study:

Link to the study:

Now granted this research is done in topical application on a cellular level. But Im wondering specifically if there was any anecdotal evidence from anyone on these boards about drinking white tea...

Yeah, I wouldn't jump to any big conclusions from that study. Most plant extracts show some anti-inflammatory effects in test tube studies.

I don't doubt that white tea is good for acne, both topically and when drunk. My point was that I haven't seen any evidence that it's in anyway better than green tea. They are both made from the same plant anyway. White tea may be fresher, but that's probably meaningless by the time it reaches store shelves.

Shameless self-promotion :) But glad to hear you liked the site! I think there's a clear lack of critical and evidence-based information about natural and alternative treatments.

White tea in my opinion is much tastier than green tea. =) If that helps.
