what do you do when one of your food intolerances is egg? It is one of my severes. I was recently tested thru ALCAT and LEAP testing and have to avoid egg and many other "good" foods that are recommend on this diet. I really dont know how to heal my gut anymore...
Tell us all that you have to avoid and we will see if we can help.
I was found intolerant to broccoli, onion, brussel sprouts, soybean and egg thru ALCAT testing. I was found intolerant to onion, soybean, tapioca, wheat, chicken, rice, egg, and whey thru LEAP Mediator Release Testing. The tests are similiar in that they were both developed by the same guy but LEAP is the newest and more accurate version. Its suppose to be 93% accurate. Its done thru matching your white blood cells against the different types of antigens and see how they react. The ones I listed are my most severes. Caffefine and coffee are on the LEAP test as well but in the moderate range which means avoidance for 3 months. They're were so many and its hard to keep motivated when today was one of the worst days of my life. I had an outbreak of some sort of rash combined with bumps and flat red patches everywhere. It literally went like this over night. I cant contribute it any food because my diet is so limited in that I eat the same stuff every day. My diet pretty much consists of turkey or beef, hummus, celerey, salads, cauliflower, beans, corn, millet, amaranth, coconut, apples, blueberries, quinoa, zucchini, some broccoli, leeks and thats pretty much it. Its very upsetiting as I dont feel Im getting enough nutrients. I do take a good 50,000 billion probiotic, vitamin C, E, B and some biotin. I am also on hormone replacement cream for my menopause. My skin is an utter disaster. I have rosacea so its red all over plus all these red spots and clogged congested pores. Its been like this for 3 straight years.. I've run out of options and hope.

If you had read the thread you would have known exactly what to do. I've previously posted several links showing that food intolerance is due to missing gut bacteria (which carry the needed enzymes to digest various foods). Here's a quote from Dr. Art Ayers who has a PhD in "Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology" and has previously worked as a professor at Harvard:
Food intolerance is based on missing bacteria in the the gut rather than inadequacy of human enzymes, e.g. lactase, or altered immune system.I make the extreme statement that food intolerance is not genetic, to emphasize that the vast majority of intolerance can be cured by changing the bacterial composition of the gut's microbiological community, the gut flora, rather than attempting to accommodate a permanent deficiency.
http://coolinginflam...ntolerance.html
Just 50 billion bacteria from probiotic supplement will make "no" difference.
Edit: Sorry for being a little harsh, I'm just so tired of people not reading the available info and putting it to use, but rather post stuff about liver flushing, topical products, "superfoods" etc. in this thread.
Both the science and needed information regarding this approach is out there. (posted in first post and throughout the thread)

I'm sorry for what you're going through. I certainly can relate to the struggle.
What about salmon or other fish? I didn't see that listed in your intolerances. I've recently added salmon into my diet and I think it's helping me. I haven't noticed a specific difference in my skin, but my mood and joints feel better, and any time your mood improves, so do your stress levels, which affects all skin conditions.
For myself, beans and any grains like millet were not good for me and only contributed to my gut damage. I know this for a fact because I had given them up for a period of time and had great skin, and then began eating beans again regularly and my health slowly declined down into complete and total failure again. Now that I've given up beans and grains and any starchy stuff (potatoes) again, I'm slowly improving.
I realize you may not want to give that stuff up too. I'm just throwing out ideas.
As whitefox said, it's possible that your probiotic supplement isn't doing anything (it's dead) or isn't doing enough. For a long time I was thinking I was getting my probiotics and healing my gut because I ate kimchi at every meal. But I've since learned that one type of probiotic or probiotic food isn't enough. You need as many different types of bacteria getting into your system as possible. I added saurkraut and water kefir into my diet and I am slowly seeing improvements.
As far as your intolerances, soy is a crap food that is bad for everyone, so you don't want to eat that anyway. Same for wheat, and I found rice to drastically hinder my healing, so you're better off without those as well. I believe you could probably regain your ability to eat broccoli and onion with enough probiotics and gut healing.
If you can eat cabbage, you can begin fermenting your own saurkraut for a good source of probiotics that you may not be getting in your pill. It's really affordable and easy. I'd be interested to see what happens if you try that for a little while on top of your supplement.
I need to find an affordable source of goat milk to make into kefir. I've come to really love the flavor; it's like a tarty carbonated liquid yogurt. I'll have to get some quality vanilla extract so I can get my mom to try it out. I'm curious if it would help her out with her own IBS & GERD issues.
Skin is still pretty good! I'm getting some skin peeling, which kind of always happens as the season changes into a colder one. It could be that I've been eating liver fairly often now as well (grass fed liver is priced at about $4.00/lb at the co-op, currently the farmer's market guy doesn't sell liver).
Deja,
Have you gotten your hands on some coconut aminos? I'm going to go buy more tomorrow to add into my kimchi.
Not yet. I have so many things going on right now and my system is soooo sensitive that I want to do this probiotic stuff for a little while before I try anything new. That way I can know how things affect me.

That's the smart way to do things! With one variable at a time in a personal experiment, it's much easier to figure out if X contributes to Y. Of course it's never that simple; as we always have other factors like sleep/stress/sun going on, but it's much better than juggling around 3 potentially problematic foods and trying to figure out what does what. 😆
Co-op is having sale on the good quality goat milk kefir! With some member discounts, it's about 25% off. I'll probably stock up for a while. Too bad they don't sell goat cream. I still want to hold off on the cow cream, though cost wise its much cheaper per calorie.
What do yall think? Would the minimum 36 hour fermentation of goat/kefir cream be a good idea? I've had a couple batches here and there, but it's been much less compared to the strictly goat stuff.
I decided to get some cream to add in, I figure I can handle the minor amount of casein/whey in a kefir mixture, since there's some digestion/enzymes/kefir-goodness that goes on. I could definitely use the calories!
Seriously tho guyz. Multiplying kefir grains is flippin' awesome.
I'm not sure how to answer those questions as I can't tolerate dairy, myself.
Update: I think I'm finally ingesting enough water kefir to get to the "initial breakout" stage (hoping it's only initial). It's just a minor breakout on my forehead, and it occurred when I upped my dose to 5 spoonfuls per day.
Whitefox and everyone, what do you think is best, continuing to up the dose to get more bacteria into my system (and hopefully heal my gut and get through the initial reaction faster), or staying where I am until the breakout goes away?

You should continue to up the dose and slowly start adding more probiotic sources:)
Here are some links to people who wants to ferment their own cabbege/sauerkraut. Its really simple and really useful. Here are some amazing quotes,
"The concentrations of lactic acid bacteria in sauerkraut reaches at least 1 billion CFU, or colony forming units, per gram." That really much for per gram!
http://www.livestrong.com/article/413921-does-sauerkraut-have-all-the-probiotics-i-need/
"raw sauerkraut can contain a mixture of over 13 different species of gut-friendly bacteria, according to a study published in the December 2007 issue of "Applies and Environmental Microbiology." Thats even more than some probiotic supplement on stores!
http://www.livestrong.com/article/538697-is-sauerkraut-better-than-probiotics-in-the-store/
"Some probiotic supplements claim they contain a certain concentration of probiotics, but many of them cannot guarantee that these gut-friendly bacteria are alive at the time of consumption. In order to be beneficial to your health, your probiotics need to be alive and present in high concentrations. With raw sauerkraut, you have a guarantee that you are ingesting a high amount of live beneficial bacteria with every mouthful, as long as you don't heat or cook the sauerkraut, which would kill the probiotics."

Here is the link on how to ferment your own food, including cabbage/sauerkraut.

Hope this helps!
Thanks for all those links! That made me super excited to go start my next batch of sauerkraut.
Okay, I just said "screw it" and poured myself an entire glass of water kefir. I'm sick of fearing this stuff. I want to progress. I want to heal. I know worrying about whether it is going to break me out is just creating anxiety. I'm drinking it, and enjoying it, and whatever happens happens.
Just thought I'd update on my progress:
I've been at this for 1 month now. After two weeks I was completely clear which hasn't really happened in 10 years, I was stoked. But, then started breaking out some more. I knew it would take more than 2 weeks to heal so no surprises. Skin still looks much better and less inflamed. Just like 2 pimples at any given time, compared to about 8-10 previously.
I've been taking a (2) RenewLife 80 billion probiotics (1 in morning 1 before bed), lots of saurkraut, kimchi, and fermented pickles. I eat some raw organic veggies too like kale, carrots, etc. I also was drinking a bottle daily of SO Delicious coconut milk kefir. Now I started making my own coconut milk kefir and eating a cans worth daily. Also taking inulin supplement with probiotic sources or eating onions.
Diet is meats, eggs, fish, avacados, raw & steamed veggies, coconut milk and flakes, carrot/cucumber/green juice, and the probiotic sources listed above. I'm hoping I continue to see improvement. I was getting some painful bloating for about a week when I started the coconut milk kefir in large doses right off the bat. That has since resolved, and no issues anymore.
Do you think that is a sufficient amount of probiotic sources? Its getting expensive to increase doses further. I eat some fermented food with all 4 of my meals daily.

This is the best post I've read in the thread so far:) You have really gotten the message. Great diet and several sources of probiotics and prebiotics. Continue with what you are doing and you should improve further. Patience and persistance is the key when treating acne. Please give us an update after 2, 3 and 4 months!!!
Are you eating properly fermented sauerkraut (raw, refrigerated) ?
If you haven't already: Check out marksdailyapple.com for great diet information:)
Yea, the sauerkraut I've been is getting is from this company http://www.rejuvenative.com/
I just started also getting some froma local company here in town http://esotericfoods.com/products/
They both have a lot of variety, and more thna just original sauekraut.
I'll keep you updated in the future. I'm willing to commit long-term and see if this finally helps. I've been trying so many diet/holistic approaches for 5 years that I can stick with any regimine now.

Those products look great:) It's so sad that most grocery stores don't carry raw, traditionally fermented products.
From what you described in your previous post I don't think you should make any changes at all. Just keep doing what you are doing!
And the progress you have seen in just 1 month is more than expected.
Update on me drinking all that water kefir yesterday:
Happy to report no problems at all. In fact, so far, the breakout that I thought was associated with the probiotics is quickly healing. No new breakouts, which to me says I can now drink water kefir freely. I'm excited, because having an actual glass of it really showed me what it tastes like (it was to watered down before) and it tastes like soda! I'm so excited because I haven't had soda in years and really miss it sometimes. I might put some ginger in a few of my batches and see if it turns out like ginger ale.
The plan as of now: Continue to consume large amounts of water, sauerkraut, and kimchi daily. In a few days, I will add some kombucha to the mix and see what happens. That will be the test, because I have reacted crazy bad to kombucha in the past.
From there, I'm interested in getting a high quality acidopholis supplement.

I'm so happy for you! It can be so frustrating sometimes being very sensitive to certain foods, which are often ones that are culturally and statistically normal throughout most of society. I'm going to get some water kefir grains myself! Keep us posted on the potential ginger ale flavor! How much have your grains multiplied?
Updates:
I didn't leave enough room in my glass pitcher for the kefir to expand -_- I thought 16 ounces would be enough space for expansion, but it must have done some serious fermenting last night, because some of the fat overflowed! I just put the wooden spoon through the top of both pitchers, and the sour cream fat bubble just sort of deflated 😆 I stirred it up and put it back in the fridge, and it's had about 36 hours of fermentation. I think in the past I split 1 16 ounce container between two 64 ounce pitchers + 32 ounces of goat kefir/milk. I'll do that in the future to prevent overflowing. Maybe I should invest in another pitcher.
Any other milk kefir drinkers out there? How much do you have in a day? Right now I'd say I have about a glass split throughout the day.
Everyone should check out this "illustration" I got from subscribing. I come across this information since I follow a lot of "Paleo" sites. recommend everyone to check out www.thepaleodiet.com, www.marksdailyapple.com, coolinginflammation.blogspot.com, www.chriskresser.com, www.thegutdiet.com for more diet information, recipes, research ++
Awesome illustration. I basically had all of the factors they list. Ultra clean lifestyle (I grew up with my mom pounding it into our heads that if you didn't constantly wash your hands, you'd get sick), poor diet (practically lived on beans and gluten as a kid), antibiotics and Nsaids (dr recommended I take Nsaids every day after an injury to reduce inflammation when I was maybe 8 years old, I also did many courses of antibiotics because I had a poor immune system and would constantly get bronchitis), disease (I believe I was born gluten intolerant/celiac), and severe stress (I HATED school and was bullied pretty badly as a kid, lived every day in terror basically).
When I look at this picture, it's like DUH I got sick. DUH!
I feel I'm on the right path to healing now, and I'm really thankful to you White Fox. For whatever reason, this thread made things clear to me. I already knew to avoid all the foods I was intolerant to, but my intolerances just kept getting worse and worse. I now believe that probiotics were the missing piece the entire time. Before this thread, I had shrugged them off as just another thing I was intolerant to. Thank you so much for helping me see that I was wrong about that.
I had my second big full glass of water kefir yesterday and felt EXCELLENT afterwards. Seriously, the stuff gives me so much energy and just pumps me full of vitality. I'm hoping to start having two glasses a day before long.
i agree with everything in this thread. I just think its difficult to fix for most people.
I washed my hands everyday with soap (afraid of breaking out). I don't use soap anymore, only after taking a number 2... but even then, is it necessary? I dont use any type of soap in the shower, only place i use it is on my hands
I always had chronic stress
I took antibiotics only once for 4 months (for acne.. i believe this is the major cause of my problems)
