Did any of you try RestorX? It seems like an interesting product to heal the intestinal barrier and fix a leaky gut. I couldn't get to try it yet though, since I found no store in Brazil that sells it (or Candex, which also seems interesting).
Youd don't need any special products. Do it the way nature intended:) Healthy diet (with diverse sources of soluble "prebiotic" fiber) and contact with microorganisms through soil, fermented foods, "dirty" vegetables etc. The rest will take care of itself.

Woo! Today's the first day since starting kefir + fermented foods with every meal where my skin was definitely better the next day than before. Hopefully things are going well down there! I ate kimchi, sauerkraut, pickles, and other fermented foods maybe 2-3x a week before kefir. Something different than before is definitely happening in my gut. Lots of gurgle noises.
I don't need to take magnesium supplements for easy going. I also added in ground up bones that I baked before blending - the ones from broths. Kinda neat how it sorta moves like gelatin itself once it's a fine powder. I pretty much have some kind of soup every day, so I just add a 1/2 a tbsn or so.
I don't really want to be on an intensive nutrient dense autoimmune gut friendly diet so I can be more tolerant to the foods that give me trouble, except for eggs. For the most part, it's to prevent any autoimmune diseases from popping up in myself, since they're a big problem in my family.
The little psoriasis flare up I got from starting kefir is mostly gone. We'll see if this has to do with improved diet and lifestyle factors, or if it's just the coming and going cycle. Hoping for the former!

That pretty much what I've been doing, with good results, it seems. I don't think that product is a substitute to pro- and prebiotics and a good diet, but it may help and speed up the healing process of the gut. If I could, I would give it a try.

Everything I've read says it's best to take probiotics on an empty stomach. I would think you'd want to wait a while before eating, seeing how stomach acid can kill the bacteria and chewing/eating stimulates stomach acid.

I'd say start slow and early in the day, just so you know that you metabolize the alcohol quickly; but that won't matter at the teaspoon level. I know I get a slight buzz from anything more than a cup of more than 48 hour fermented goat kefir, but there seems to not be any effect on my skin.

Congratulations! That's a huge accomplishment on so many levels beyond acne/skin health.
I'm not sure on the actual amounts, but ethanol is a natural byproduct of kefir fermentation. It's probably not an issue at the amounts you're ingesting (tbsn a day to start?) Because I slept rather bad last night, after having maybe a bit more than a cup, I can say I'm going to go back to a small shot glass worth as well, maybe add in a few of the actual kefir grains as well.
I'll get back to you on the ethanol content of kefir, I'm pretty sure I ran across a few studies on it during my perusing of ze database.
I had my first dose last night. I just took a spoonful of the kefir and mixed it into a glass of lemon water. I had soaked dates in with the kefir while it was fermenting so it made sort of a lemon/sour/date tasting drink. I didn't notice any gurgling or any effects at all other than the usual alkalinizing lift I get from lemon water. No breakouts from it! So that's a good sign. I'm going to stick to one spoonful only for about a week and then I'm going to try drinking the kefir straight.

I've had it fermenting for a day now, and it already smells pretty strong. Yet some recipes said they let if ferment for MONTHS??? Does anyone make this stuff?

If it's pretty hot, a day would be good enough from my experience! I like to use leftover brine from other ferments (I started with bubbies pickle juice), add salt, close the lid, and let it sit in the garage for a day, then move it to my fridge. Finer chopped things tend to ferment faster. Pickles for example can take 4 days in my experience before they're ready for refridgeration.
Also, I think many people here would be interested in learning about kimchi! The real stuff! Go to 3 minutes and watch from there.

I admit, if someone came up to me a few years agoand offered fermented fish/shrimp/soy sauce/garlic/onion/ginger/carrots/chile/cabbage," I'd probably faint there's some serious deliciousness that goes on that makes it delicious though!

I think I ended up having pickles as a favorite food as well largely because of the little rascals remake! There's a scene and song about pickles if memory serves me correctly. Too bad the pickles I ate back then weren't actually the real fermented stuff.
Ok... I could use some input here. I've been doing the diet, minus probiotics and fermented foods (which I was planning on adding next week) and I've hit a wall. Last night I went to see a friend's band play and started to feel really faint. I was also really hot, and had felt hot the whole show, but everyone else said the venue was actually unpleasantly cold. I sat down and had some water and after about twenty minutes felt a little better, only slightly but enough to walk home and collapse on the couch. Today, after the coconut oil I felt SERIOUSLY sick. I had excruciating stomach cramps, heartburn and had a really strong urge to vomit. I curled up in bed and slept it off for a few hours. The symptoms slowly faded throughout the evening, for the most part, though I still have some heartburn now, more than 7 hours after taking the coconut oil. I don't eat meat and haven't had any fish this week but have eaten plenty of eggs every day. Still, could this be my problem? Not enough protein or variation in my diet? I was eating organic full-fat yogurt last week before I started with the coconut oil and felt a lot better then. Since I won't eat meat, how bad would it be to add quinoa and legumes back into my diet?

That's strange since The Paleo Diet/Gut Diet/Inflammatory Diet isn't really extreme in any way; it's the foods humans have been eating since the dawn of time.
Some people experience an intial reaction if they go very low carb, but I would say the symptoms you encountered are unrelated to the diet.

Farmers market is a great place to get "dirty", organic vegetables, mushrooms etc. with plenty of clinging soil bacteria.
Although soil might contain some pathogenic microbes, we know that non-westernized cultures and our ancestors routinely "eat/ate" soil clinging to foods and hands. Some primitive cultures actually practice geophagy, which is basically the consumption of "dirt".

Thanks. It's certainly possible that the first night's reaction was a result of being dehydrated or something like that, but yesterday's was definitely because of the coconut oil. The only thing I had eaten before I took it was eggs and I eat those every day with no problem. Is it possible that it was a die-off reaction and/or that I just took too much? I took the same amount I always take and usually have some nausea and tiredness but nothing like yesterday's. I'm confused too, since I'm eating healthier than I ever have and I feel like crap. I feel like I'm missing something but I don't know what.
It didn't happen to me, but I recall reading on the curezone candida forums in the past that many people have experienced healing crisis with coconut oil.
Update on me: Today will be day 3 of my one-spoonful kefir probiotic treatments. I'm doing 7 days at one spoonful per day. Then I'm moving to two spoonfuls per day. So far, no severe reactions are happening, just my normal pre-menstrual cystic acne, which seems to be doing a little better than it was last month, although still painful and bothersome.
The weird thing I've noticed is that since going off starches like sweet potatoes and sticking to the pure gut-healing Paleo diet, I'm getting less brightly inflamed, pussy acne and more deep, less-inflamed, yet LARGER cystic acne under the surface of my skin. So far it seems like many of these "new" kinds of cysts aren't coming to a head and draining pus like my old acne would. Yet they seem to just stay there under the surface for a long time. I'm not sure if this is a sign of healing or what, but something definitely changed.
