Bananas make me nervous because they're high glycemic. However, they are also low in fructose.

It's a mixed bag! Another real positive is that they're a fruit that is easy to peel.

GI isn't really a factor when consumed with fibre protein and or fats.

Also the GI scale has been designed around fasted people. The scale just isnt accurate as not enough has been done to test the GI on non fasted people,

. I don't know why people still refer to the gi scale when they've got insulin index scales.

Indeed :)

Man, lots of pro-banana sentiment in this forum. I wasn't being actively anti-banana, I just don't understand how the glycemic index can be denied as a useful tool. Bananas will impact blood sugar more than citrus, berries, or meat -- that's all I was saying.

Bananas are great prebiotics.

The reason being is GI has been mainly tested on fasted individuals so if you then eat an high GI food it becomes largely inaccurate and the GI is less.

More tests need to be done on non fasted individuals to test the GI of food.

switch to a paleo diet(high fat). acne will be gone. vegan is a joke.

This is like reading my thoughts 3 weeks ago.

You are so wrong.

Why is fat a problem?

it adds bile for further hormone production

it allows for toxins to enter your system through the intestinal tract membrane

it raises insulin resistance when paired with any other sweet food, causing mad blood sugar swings

slows down mineral transportation

sits in your stomach (exercise was way more difficult)

The GI of fruit is almost irrelevant, your blood sugar levels will not spike due to the fiber content. It will be absorbed by your cells if you cause to spike, Which is supposed to be very hard to do on the vegan diet. Your body is perfectly adapted to fruit. It's easy and quick to digest, is alkalizing and is soft on your intestines.

I know this because i was on a high fat diet and although i was clear, i still had a few spots. I also had vitamin deficiencies. I used to break out because i had the occasional apple for vitamin C. I've still got acne now but my new vegan like diet is very healthy and the horizons are looking much brighter.

I tried the high fat diet and it failed me,

Wrong. What kind of fat were you eating? Olive oil, coconut oil, grass fed butter/ghee, avocados, omega 3 free range eggs, nuts and lean grass fed meats are SUPER good for you and this is proven. It is only when you add sugary and high carbohydrate foods like wheat that you get a deadly reaction that causes the effects you mentioned. There is NO food that occurs in nature that contains high fat, high sugar, high carb ratio. Totally unnatural for the body. And of course, if you're eating foods with the wrong kind of fat, you're double screwing yourself over.

Blood sugar spikes / drops are about the worst thing for acne. If you can keep your blood sugars level you probably wont break out at all. There are 3 hormones that are effected by it which cause excess oil, excess skin cells and the clumping of skin cells (lack of ability to flake off).

Bananas break me out also. I stopped them 3 weeks ago. I figured out why. Bananas contain Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B9 & C. "B vitamins" break me out really bad.
