SuperOxide Dismutase is a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory.

http://www.vitaminstuff.com/superoxide-dismutase.html

"Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) is an enzyme that repairs cells and reduces the damage done to them by superoxide, the most common free radical in the body. SOD is found in both the dermis and the epidermis, and is key to the production of healthy fibroblasts (skin-building cells). "

Also acne sufferers have been noted to have lower SOD levels.

It's not yet clear if SOD supplements are even effective, but SOD relies on Zinc, Copper, and Manganese to be effective. Increasing Omega 3 fatty acids increase the SOD levels in your body.

Zinc ascorbate has superoxide dismutase-like activity and in vitro antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.

A member, going by databased if I remember right, has focused all his efforts on boosting zinc superoxide dismutase. He has decided this is the one true cause and path to a cure. He focuses on the circadian and melatonin cycles and spends all day long in extremely brightly lit space or outdoors, then total darkness at night. Because apparently any period of dim light exposure in the day such as normal indoor lighting or artificial light at night muddies up the whole seratonin/melatonin cycle of production and you won't have the necessary surge of melatonin at night. Anyway with this habit, he claims to be able to eat whatever he wants, and he wants to eat like a 4 year old i.e. McDonalds burgers and coca cola.

He has very long threads on this and used to visit here pretty often, usually to tell us how a large apple has just as much fructose as a glass of coke. I have links to some of his posts in the Good Things thread under sleep and blood sugar and possibly elsewhere.

Anyway, the circadian cycle is very important and light exposure does affect carb/fructose metabolism, etc. I just don't believe in the one true cause/cure because there are so many factors that lead up to the formation of a pimple and any one or combo can be your biggest factor or can be adjusted to result in clear skin.

SOD can also be found on wheatgrass so that is something that you may drink, considering is a health food is has all the proper balance of cofactors and nutrients to make useful for the body.
