Also, there is no research that shows that niacin works to treat acne - there are some anectdotal stories here on the board where some people say they get results from niacin, however the research literature has nothing supporting niacin's use for treating acne.
Your slightly mis-informed. Niacin doesn't directly treat acne, I'll agree with you there. But Niacin works wonders for those with intenstine wall/digestive problems. When your body can't get rid of these toxins they release them back into your blood stream and they manifest themselves as acne. Many food allergy suffers would benefit from Niacin.
PANIC
How much Niacin do you take Panic?
I take 500 mg a day. There are several different forms of Niacin as has been noted in the thread. I take the Non Flush Insitol Hexanicotinate version of Niacin. I can't figure out why so many people think you have to take the flush version here to see results; that simply isn't true and causes some pretty bad flushing in some people.
I wouldn't recommend going over 500mg a day because at very high dosages 2000mg or more; you can put stress on your internal organs and should be under a physican's care to monitor your health.
I also added a pro-biotic and Cod Liver Oil to the mix this week. As much as it sucks I'm going to be extremely strict with my carbs and see what happens. I was very low carb a few weeks ago and it quickly improved my skin.
Hope this helps and damn I can't wait to be clear again!!! So close!!!

Is there any research establishing a link between leaky-gut and acne? I think the connection is pretty sketchy as far as the research evidence goes. Seems that most people are tossing around this link with minimal direct evidence to back it up. If there are actually research studies (real, controlled research studies) out there on this, I would love to see them. Otherwise, it seems to be pretty speculative at this point to say that you know that these two things are connected.
Hey guys, you don't need to take the flush kind of B3.The improvement of your acne is due to the antinflammatory action of the niacin, not the dilatation of capillares !
So I suggest to take the Inositol Niacinate (Niacin Flush Free). You will have the same effects on your acne without any bad reaction.
Suggested doses : 250-500mg max daily

Agreed. I don't know why so many of you are torturing yourselves with daily flushing when you can get the same results without the flush. Also, if your skin is sensitive (like mine) and prone to broken capillaries (or rosacea) then the flushing will only make that worse.
I am currently using Finest brand flush-free Niacin (inositol nicotinate.) One capsule at 500mg per day. I bought it for about 13 dollars at Walgreens. This is the maxium recommended dose.
I'm 34 and when the acne.org treatment topped acne but gave me lizard skin I couldn't deal. I heard about niacin and started it. the results have been very good - I no longer use the acne.org treatment - only the cleanser, the aha, niacin and jojoba oil. My skin is clear and SOFT.
yah!
I'm going to purchase some, and this one okay? http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?...1#ProductDetail
bumping this thread to say I am taking 1000mg of Niacinamide a day (1 tablet). I will let you guys know how it goes. I plan on continuing a strict diet based off of having low sugar, low gluten and similar to an anticandida and paleo diet. This niacinamide is simply just to boost the detoxing portion of the anticandida diet along.
I found this on the anti-candida site that's serving as my guide.
Nutritional Yeast "Flakes" - ensure you buy the "flakes" and not just "nutritional yeast" of any kind, which are very different and will cause problems for candida sufferers. There are many good brands available, including Red Star, Frontier, NOW, KAL, etc. Take two (2) tablespoons per day, mixed into water, soup, Bee's Egg Drink or other foods. It has a nutty flavor which most people like. It contains Niacin (B3) which will cause a flush, including red and itchy skin, which is nothing to be concerned about
(this stuff is very tasty when you cook with it. It makes me feel like I'm eating a bread-type product which I've been longing for so much on this diet, when right on the bottle it says "candida albicans free")

Okay, I am beginning to see a correlation between most of the successful treatments on this forum. They all are the underlying cures to the same medical problem: Hypochlorhydria, also known as weak stomach acid. And, yes, weak stomach acid is hIGHLY tied to acne but we hear very little about it. It also plays with the hormones.
Niacin: Niacin is critical for the release of histamine, a key player behind stomach acid secretion. One study shows that a 3 week therapeutic supplementation with niacin completely eliminated hypochlorhydria (weak stomach acid) and symptoms tied in with it.
Other treatments for weak stomach acid in the medical community? Apple cider vinegar. It stimulates the body to produce more stomach acid. This is also a very successful treatment for acne.
Zinc supplementation can also fix hypochlorhydria because zinc is needed to make stomach acid. Oddly, zinc also greatly helps people's acne.
Another successful weak stomach acid treatment? Hydrochloric acid tablets taken at each meal time. It is also a successful treatment for people with acne on this forum.
Hello guys.. 24 YO male. I've been taking niacin in the form of inositol hexanicotinate 500MG/No Flush for exactly two weeks today. I decided to wait a little while before positing on the subject. I'm glad to inform you guys of more good news about Niacin.
First of all.. don't expect miracles or to be cured right away. Like any vitamin, it usually takes a good month or so before you can expect the full result or benefit. At two weeks, I have noticed my face had been consistantly clearing and the small breakouts I have been getting seem to heal rather fast.
I will tell you though, I am also taking doxycycline 100MG twice a day but I have been taking that for like 3-4 months now with luke warm results. I am also on ACZONE, which I love! I have posted on this product previously. The doxycycline is nothing special but my prescription is cheap so I am continuing to take it.
However.. I believe adding in the Niacin into the mix is the reason for this recent clearing up within the past two weeks. My mother just came back from vacation and even she commented on it.
I use cetaphil gentle cleanser(in the bar form) which I like because it has a great lather. I use that twice a day, morning and night. I take my doxycyline at 10AM and 10PM because on mine it suggests to take it W/O food, so I eat in the morning at like 8AM and then it says wait two hours before a meal. Sometimes I DO get a small stomach ache, but it's not bad. I use the Aczone after washing in the morning and at night. I take my Niacin with dinner, whenever that happens to be 5-6-7PM.. doesn't really seem to matter, just take it once a day with my meal.
As of today I am pretty clear, no real breakouts just some older marks and maybe some under the skin stuff that was pre-existing which seems to be smoothing out. I actually had two very small whiteheads near my mouth yesterday morning and they are gone today. My advice would to be just be patient with this product and not to stop what you are currently taking in your regular routine and instead just add this into the mix. Don't get discouraged if you are still breaking out after the first week or two, just because everyone is different and it could take a little bit longer. I say give it at least a month before making any decisions on whether it's working or not.
So some people are saying you don't need the flushing niacin and some are saying the opposite. I don't know which to buy now.
I don't think you need the flush.. I think it's just a visual thing for most people on here, so they "can see the product working" but if I'm not mistaken, flush or no flush, the product has the same effect and I even believe no flush is less harsh on your on system over time. I am taking brand "Nature's Bounty" Flush Free 500MG which I purchased a value size bottle with 120 capsules for like $16-17 at CVS Pharmacy - It reads on the label: FACTS: Niacin, also known as vitamin B3, promotes heart health, energy metabolism and nervous system health. Niacin also helps maintain healthy functions of the digestive system and skin. For adults, take (1) capsule daily, preferably with a meal. Do not exceed one capsule per day.
I bought some Niacin (flushing kind) a couple weeks ago and haven't taken it every day but I do not experience a flush. They are 100mg tabs. Is this too weak? I mean, I didn't examine my skin or anything, but I did not feel tingly or any different.
? ? ?
Yes, I believe that is too weak, based on what everyone on here has posted - most people are taking 500MG. I suppose you could take 5 pills of 100MG, but you will go through pills really quickly. I am also taking 500MG for two weeks now, see my post above.
I am 95% clear right now due to taking Hydrochloric Acid for 9 days. I found out my problem was weak stomach acid which i read was a common cause of acne.
A new study has found that niacin can greatly increase stomach acid and can help clear acne. Have any of you read about this yet?
