wow old quote, i stopped taking niacin a while back, as of now the mechanism for how niacin affects acne is sort of unknown, save yourself the trouble and take it in the form of niacinamide (no flush), this form has been studied and shown to improve acne conditions, niacin ( flush) is used in treating cholesterol levels, im like 95% clear so i may start a niacinamide course just to see what happens
so im 16 years old...girl....heres my skin:
occasional pimple on forehead or chin
pimples on nose ...not cystic or anything
used to have blackheads but now gone bc of clinique acne solution toner
do you think the flush free niacin is something i should consider?
everyone's reviews are getting me really pumped to find something that might actually keep me clearrr! idk! do you think it will help me?
can i find it in walgreens or cvs???
thanks guys!
Okay so I just checked on Walgreens.com and this is what it says for the common uses of nicotinamide:
Common Uses: This medicine is a combination of vitamins and minerals used to treat inflammation and low mineral levels frequently found in patients with inflammatory acne or other skin problems.
This is what the medicine contains:
Ingredient Name: NIACINAMIDE (NYE-a-sin-amide), ZINC, COPPER, AND FOLIC ACID (FOE-lik AS-id)
This available by perscription only! Anyone know how I can get it without a perscription? Or does regular flush free niacin work fine?
Hi,
Nicotinamide or niacinamide are the same thing...and both are used to treat acne. Honestly I havenAt tried it but for what I 've been reading here and in other places...you can only see results if you take about 500mg of nicotinamide per day. And donAt buy other type of B3 !! Probably it will be a waste of time!
this is wrong, many here had accur with "inositol hexanicotinate" !!!
But "niacinamide" can also help against acne!
Both are "flush free"

The prescription medication is called Nicomide, which is a combination of the vitamins and minerals you listed above. However, you can buy just niacinamide supplements on their own, without a prescription. You may or may not choose to add the other minerals that are in the Nicomide. People have gotten results from just the niacinamide alone. Zinc will help with inflammation and has been shown to reduce acne. The copper is added because zinc supplementation can deplete copper levels in the body - I don't think the copper does anything for acne though. Not sure about the reason for the folic acid.
I am also very confused about all the mixed reviews on this topic.
Would it be good to get the Niacin Flush Free 500 mg?
Is this the stuff that helps with acne?
Please help.
I'm really thinking about trying this and I don't want to have to find some excuse to go to Walgreens alone and buy this if I'm not getting the right stuff.
Thanks in advance

Anything with the chemical ingredient Niacinamide OR Nicotinamide will work according to this thread. If it contains one of those then go ahead and buy it.

wrong
Inositol Hexanicontinate (=flush free Niacin) is also working, read the posts in the thread!!!
plus you can add it into a topical and make a cream that's better than BP.
Are you dreaming?
"BPO vs. topical niacinamide" is "day vs. night"!!!
No chance for the topical niacinamide!
Mandelic acid also work much better than topical niacinamide!
Topical niacinamide has actually worked very well for me. It isn't going to have as strong antibacterial effects as BPO, but some people can't use BPO - so it at least offers another treatment option.
I had GREAT succes with niacin in the beggining, got literally 100% clean over night, stayed clear for around a week before the effects subsided and it got back to normal. I den stopped the niacin.
Same thing happened when I tried it 2 weeks later again, awesaome results for around a week.
I have now bought niacin again ( the flush kind: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp...amp;catid=32498 ) and will try a different approach, 3-5 days on it and then 5-7 days of it and maybe then I can have more consistent results.
Just took the first pill and the flush is suuuuperstrong and I love it Will keep you guys posted on my progress.
hey people.
have anyone here read first three results after you google "no flush niacin"?
practically all scientist are saying that it has no effect in humans whatsoever and that it is probably a scam. practically no niacin is found in blood after using this pills.
so regarding that, it is really strange to read this few people here claiming that they have great results with it..
??
Just wanted to clarify that niacinamide and "no flush" niacin are not the same thing. Niacin and niacinamide are both forms of B3, but there are differences between them (there is more info on this topic in other niacin threads on the board). Niacinamide generally does not give you any flushing though. The flush from niacin is not necessary - there is no evidence that flushing does anything to treat acne.
Also, there is no research that shows that niacin works to treat acne - there are some anectdotal stories here on the board where some people say they get results from niacin, however the research literature has nothing supporting niacin's use for treating acne. Doesn't mean it isn't effective for some people, but I just wanted to point that out for those who do prefer to use evidence-based treatments!
However, there IS research that shows oral and topical niacinamide may help with acne, inflammation, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, etc. and also improves skin barrier functioning and reduces skin sensitivity. Most of the research on other skin benefits have used topical forms of niacinamide - not sure if you would get all those benefits from the oral form or not.
I've tried making topical niacinamide myself but I found no improvements. It may have something to do with the moisturizer that I was mixing it in though. I just need to find something that doesnt break me out.
I think it needs to be mixed with carrier ingredients so it fully penetrates the skin. Your moisturizer may be preventing absorption of the niacinamide?
hey, do you know if taking up 50,000 IU of afaxin everyday OK? PLS HELP. i have been doing it for 2 years & i am still alive. Will I be dead this year 2010 of I continue doing it? The reason your results came to a screeching hault is this:
Niacin is mainly useful for lowering bad cholestrol levels and helping in treating "leaky gut."
Leak Gut as you may know is directly correlated to food allegries that develop as the intestinal wall in your stomach becomes damaged.
Bottom line; you might want to watch your diet and use Niacin to get the full effects.
I'm allergic to gluten, dairy and nuts. I started Niacin about a week ago and it immediately cleared up my active acne, within a couple days. However I ate a good amount of pasta over the past couple days, bread and woke up with a pimple (much smaller than I was getting before) forming on my cheek.
It sucks but you have to be very strict with your diet to see the full effects of Niacin. Google Niacin and Leaky Gut, you might be surprised.
