Hi

This is a long thread and I didnt see anything about it in the beginning pages but is Niacin just for facial acne? or does it work for body acne aswell?.

Also is it something you take continuously or stop after its had an effect. Is it dangerous to take it indefinitely?.

Thanks.

Those that have had good results have reported it improves body acne as well. I'm not sure about long-term effects, but I think it would be worth checking with your doctor as the liver may need to be watched over time. They can advise you about duration as well.

I've been using a No Flush variety for about two weeks and have seen little if any results (also about six weeks into Dan's regimen, so its hard to know for sure). I'm switching to the regular Niacin ASAP!

quiktech and others for who niacin has been working:

can you please specify the brand, type of niacin (flush/no flush), dosage, and timing (with/without meal) that you are taking, for how long, and how is it working?

no flush CVS brand Niacin. im taking 500mg in the AM then 500 before i go to bed both with a meal. im also taking Zinc and Chromium among other vitamins. Its been 2 1/2 weeks and my face hasnt looked this good since i was 10. I still get a small whitehead here and there (easily popable), but that pales in comparasion of the pimples i use to get that would last for days and sometimes weeks

are you using any facewash or topical gels?

basic moisterizer and 10% bp spot treatment

thanks, was just wonering do you use it morning and night or just once a day?

the moisturizer? or the niacin?? I moisturize after i shower and before i go to bed (also use spot treatment before bed). I take Niacin with breakfast and with a meal right before i go to bed

Well thought I would post it's been 3 weeks since i've been on niacin the hostel w/e kind 500mg. Also taking zinc / b-complex and have to say no change at all =[ Going to finish up the bottle and see how i look.

On top of the pills I:

Drink 1 glass of freshly squeezed lemon juice, cold showers, NO DIARY for 3 weeks-which i thought would clear me up but hasnt =[

So yea

I took Niacin a few months ago for a couple weeks and it seemed to be working. After going on a week long vacation and forgetting my Niacin I got off track with taking it and just stopped.

My face has been the worse it has ever been the past couples weeks. I have tried most other treatments in the past with no real results. I thought that I would give the Niacin another shot so I have been taking Niacin religiously once a day (no flush 500 mg) for 9 days and have not had a pimple since. I see that the results faded for many people but so far so good for me. The only other thing that may be causing the clearness is the fact that because I have had no new zits, I have not been using my concealer. I am wondering if this could be partly the reason for my clear streak. (When my face was really bad, I was using my concealer multiple times throughout the day and I would notice that new zits would pop up right around the same area as previous zits).

I will update if I get any new zits, but as of right now things are going really well.

I am hopeful.

By the way- I would say my acne was moderate with at least 3-4 active pimples on my face any given time. My acne was mostly cystic and leaves bright red marks behind.

I've been on Niacin for about three to four weeks now and i have to say that, although it's not been a miracle worker for me, It has helped A LOT. the first few days i took it, the inflamation of a few of the spots near my mouth really went down and i started to believe this was a genuine cure for acne. About two weeks later i had two days of eating sweets and drinking diet cola non stop, it was my last few days in my hometown before i set off for university and i went overboard in my indulgence of nasty foods and drink. Anyway on the day I set off for Uni my skin was quite bad again (not terrible but worse than it had been for the past two weeks). The reason i think this was the case was due to the horrible and unhealthy foods I was eating and the fact that the Niacin couldn't work as well with all the junk I was putting in my body.

A week later and right now my skin is still healing from old acne wars but it's getting better. The niacin does seem to have helped my skins healing qualities but I think it's a combination of me regulating my eating habits again and allowing the niacin to take effect. I still get the odd spot but it disappears within a day or two and has almost no infection or redness.

Anyway this is just my opinion that Niacin works much better when combined with a better diet than just on its own. Will keep updating my progress.

Because more people have cleared their acne by taking no flush. It works for some, not everyone.

So I just worked up to the 500mg of flush niacin yesterday and it's working for me better than the non-flush. Only thing is I go red and blotchy all over, even my legs and stomach and get and intense throbbing in my ears like they are going to blow! Anyone else have such a severe reaction to it? I also tested my temperature for fun during the flush and I was like 96 when normally I'm around 97.6 for the mouth. I didn't test my basal temperature though. It would be interesting to take temperature after it's done too but I'm too lazy at the moment.

not all no flush niacin is time release. if it says specifically "Time Released" on the bottle then it is time release

I purchased a bottle of flush-free 500mg niacin two days ago. I'm on my second day of taking it nightly. Hopefully it works, if not ill have to order a flush version online (store only carried no flush version).

wow, i dont really know how to say this. but for the past 2 weeks i havent had a pimple and then yesterday i broke out like crazy. now i have like 5 small cysts to deal with and theyre all spread out around my face. i guess my final verdict is that niacin eventually stops working. at least it did for me. im still gonna finish my bottle to see what happens but at the moment i'm really down that what i thought was the cure i was looking for, isn't. i plan on adding DIM later...

i switched from no flush to flush and i was having great results. i may have broken out because i ate half of a medium pizza, but a breakout that big is unusual for me.

Hopefully that was it, because my 500mg flush free seems to be improving my skin a bit.

Keep us updated if you are continuing with it. I think my skin is slightly better when on niacin as well (flush). That's with ramping down the BP as well.

I've been taking 500mg for about a month now - 500 mg niacin no flush hexan.....

Last week I finally thought my face was not going to break out as i had like 5 pimples fading..Well yesturday i had a big chin break out and now have about 6 pimples damn it!!!!!

Should I take 500mg flush or 250mg flush to start?

Is anyone on a "No Sugar" diet and taking Niacin?

I just started my 3rd trial (lol) with Niacin and it's working great again. How long remains to be seen, but I'm trying to see if perhaps sugar is the culprit for Niacin's short term results.

Heh just did my first FLUSH x1 250mg

It was pretty sweet lol. Within like 10 minutes I was beat red all over - not really my face, and it was a burning sensation but I didn't really mind it tbh.

Question:

My mom freaked out!@!!@ She is worried that because I have 4 heart murmors - i think thats how you spell it, that this could be bad for me to do!! Opinions?? I yelled at her and said it's fine but i figured i'd ask....

I too am thinking there is a possible relationship between how well/badly you eat and the effects/benefits of niacin. As i said on previous post i've been taking it for about 7 or 8 weeks. The first two weeks i started taking it my acne improved a lot. Then I started eating badly for two days at a couple of farewell parties before I left home for uni, and I broke out again. Since then i started to eat healthy suff again and cut down on refined sugars and again i noticed an improvement.

These past few days I have noticed a few little spots near my beard area and one painful one up by my right eyebrow but that could be again due to the fact that i've been drinking too much coke and disrupting the process by which niacin helps the skin.

I don't know, and none of us on here are medically trained so you're unlikely to get an answer. I would be consulting a doctor if I were you.

Going to give this a try -

NOW Foods Niacin/Inositol combo -

Quick questions, maybe someone can help. These caps are 250mg each. Is it better to take one am and one pm or get the full 500mg at once? Also, the bottle says take it with meals. Is that right or is empty stomach better?

Also on a tangent, has anyone taking this noticed any difference in hair quality or growth rate?

thanks!
