You are absolutely right, vit D does cure acne. There is actually a disease called "Vit D deficiency disease". When you have a vit D deficiency, it can cause acne, arthritis, extreme fatigue, insomnia, and even cancer. It is a good idea to have your levels checked by a doctor before taking high amounts, but if anyone is deficient, supplements and tanning beds (or sun) can make a world of difference with all these ailments. I too have suffered from acne for years, have tried every med and treatment out there. I went to nursing school and learned about this "disease", thought that every symptom sounded like the problems I was having. My sister just got diagnosed with this, so that convinced me even more. I bought some D3. Havent been on it long, but it is working. So anyone who has acne that gets better in the summer or when you are tanned, it may be due to a deficiency.
Well, I think I've found it... I think it's finally over! it's been about 2 months, and *no new breakouts*. Absolutely none. I'm... shocked! After all this time, I think I finally found the acne cause and solution, for me.
Two months ago, I started taking vitamin D supplements, about 1000IU per day. Nothing else changed: work has been no more or less stressful, my diet hasn't changed, nothing significant in personal life. I just noticed that my skin is always better after getting a little bit of sunshine, so decided to try taking vitamin D... and, voila! My skin has *never* looked better... It actually looks kind of pretty!
It's hard to believe it could be so simple, yet it kind of makes sense: I never had acne until moving from Arizona to Seattle, and, it always got worse in the winter. The only other time I had acne in my life was while still living in Arizona, I tried a brief stint of eating a very, very low-fat diet (yes, I was young and foolish), and wearing sunscreen religiously; perhaps since vitamin D is fat-soluble, and I was avoiding the sun, I was just unable to synthesize or absorb it. And, sure enough, once I abandoned the low-fat foolishness, the acne disappeared as well. Until I moved to Seattle, that is, when it returned with a vengeance.
The only heavy-duty medications I tried were retin-A for a year, and orthotricyclen for four months. Both were ineffective, unfortunately: the retin-A had absolutely no effect (after a frickin year!!) and on orthotricyclen I still had reliably regular monthly breakouts, plus some in between. I tried eliminating various foods from the diet: chocolate, dairy, peanuts, and citrus, all to no effect.
Also, I absolutely don't eat processed foods, and very little sugar; mostly whole foods, lots of veggies, low sugar, lots of fish oils, only grass-fed organic meat when I do eat meat, blah, blah, blah, etc etc, all the usual recommendations. I got extremely sick of claims that acne is punishment for dietary transgressions -- I *don't* eat crap, at all, yet still had acne.
Anyway! All this is to say that after 3 years of trial and error, I've been pretty much stumped! Until now... taking vitamin D. It's very weird. It's possible that this one simple thing, vitamin D deficiency, has been the problem the entire time. Wow.
It's been about 2 months, so I'm hoping this keeps up. If anything changes, I'll let you guys know, but... so far, so good!
If anyone is still trying the litany of various dietary/medical/vitamin tricks, well, don't forget to give this one a try. Not the cause for everybody, I'm sure, but if there are any others out there like me, maybe this will help!
Hello, if someone could help on the issue of vitamin d3 i would be very grateful. I have noticed that soya tends to break me out and that the majority of vitamin d3 supplements i see are derived from soya. Is there any vitamin d3 pill that doesnt come from soya as i dont think my body can take it.
Would be grateful for any advice.

What brand are you using/dosage? Is this the only vitamin you've added/change you made?
Thank you!
can i take vitamin D even though i have mild acne? i have a little bit of more pimples on my jawline and on my left cheeks were actually are red marks.
do i need to see a dermatologist if i can take vitamin D?
or i just take the vitamin D without a prescription from a derm?
please help!
I take 2000iu vitamin D (liquid form), 10000 vitamin A (softgel) and liquid B Complex. (Research says that those vitamins help with acne. I am free and clear.) I have had mild acne for 15 years and been on tetra 5 years and minocycline for 4 years. Because the mino has given me a fatty liver, gray teeth, skin pigment change etc. I began the above regimen. Also Omega 3 (liquid) I am now for the first time in 15 years free and clear from acne for 6 weeks. No mino or tetra. My face is totally clear, I am soooooo excited.

Congrats!! SO happy for you. I am seeing my naturopath for the first time next week and will ask her to test my vitamin levels, esp vitamin d. I never get out in the sun, we hardly have any here actually, except for when I go camping in the summer and it always helps my skin. But I dont want to buy anything until I'm tested and sure I need it. Cant wait though, I'd love to be clear like you!

Thanks again. Really excited to try this. I also have bad undereye circles that never go away no matter how much sleep I get. I hope this could be it for me
7500 IU of Vitamin D3? That sounds like quite a lot..
I only take 1000 IU + whatever i get from the fish oils.
What brand of fish oil to you take. I've used Xtend Life Fish oil, which I found too expensive. Then I swithched to Nature's Bounty Fish Oil 1000mg Omega3&6. I take four softgels a day. But I'm not seeing results. I've been taken them for about 3 months, do you think I should continue using them?
From iHerb I take Liquid Nature's Answer 1 teaspoon. Reasonable price. My skin is so smooth, like a newborn. My hands feel like silk since taking the above. Awesome product. Hope this helps.

Hi guys, i wouldnt mind some advice from anyone who advocates taking vit d3.
Have ordered some vitamin d3 in liquid form off the internet, i got it in with an orange flavoring though,is that ok? It says its from a natural source.
Also the liquid drops are at 2,500 IU, is that ok for a beginner or should i pump up the dose, if so what is a safe level?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I still haven't tried it, I'm waiting to get tested to see if I DO need it, but it seems people here saw benefit to taking at least 4,000 IU for at least 3 months and then decreasing it a bit to maintain. It really depends on how much your body actually needs though! Maybe someone else can answer better.
Dakota if you dont mind me asking, how come you take the liquid form of the Omega 3? Is liquid suppose to be better? Im vitamin d deficient as well and suffer from soooo many clogged pores in my chin i cant stand it..Nothing ever stops them from filling up...
I've heard from various sources that gel caps and liquid form are the best.
can some people advise what brand they are taking of D3? I went to whole foods today and was confused as to which to purchase. There were many different brands but it was whether to buy the ones with fish oil, cod liver oil, soybean oil or there were brands that were non fish oil and lanolin based..Whats everyones thoughts? I thought soy was bad for acne?

Wicky, I take the liquid form because of the absorption. For my clogged, hurtful, chin acne the combination of Vitamin A 10000UI (softgel Natural Factors), Vitamin B Complex Liquid Form and D3 2000 UI. It has now been 7 weeks acne free. I have also noticed that the discoloration of my gray teeth is improving, probably because of the liquid Calcium. Because I have suffered for sooooooooooooo many years, try the above. I noticed that taking Vitamin A and Vitamin B Complex improved my condition tremendously and adding D3 kicked the problem completely. I can tell there are no more nodules waiting. Excited.

Wicky go to superstore and buy liquid D3 Omega Alpha Vitamin D 1000IU/ml. I am taking 2. Love it tastes mostly like water.
dakota, sorry to be such a moron but i'm confused as to what superstore is..is that the company or website? Let me get this straight..You are taking Vitamin D3 in liquid form, Vitamin A in a softgel, Vitamin B Complex in a liquid and an Omega 3 in liquid as well? Im desperate to stop my chin and the daily welts I get on my jawline. Im 43 and cant take it anymore...

Wicky, yes to all your questions. Superstore is a huge grocery store, like a Walmart. Everything is liquid for except Vitamin A which is a softgel. So hopes this information helps you. You sound as desperate as I was.
I am desperate and no one knows how to help me. Ive been taking 5000 iu's of vitamin d and havent seen any results. Im taking a B5/B6 vitamin as well as just starting 10,0000 of vitamin a. Im so pluggged in the corners of my mouth and they are bulging just need to be expelled. Its like they werent there two days ago and now they're so clustered and need to be extracted. Theres hundreds of them...All white and pin sized. They seem like milia but I do exfoliate and thats what I thought you get milia from, not exfoliating. My overall texture is red and irritated and enflamed right now...I have been battling this two straight yrs and acne since im 13. What will slow the progression of these plugs and what am I lacking that my body doesnt shed properly and forms these. I cry all the time and feel hopeless because not one thing has ever worked.
So, this is my experience with vitamin D.
I'm 36, severe acne since a was teenager. One month ago I started with 1000IU of vitamin D.
Results after 2 days, in a week I was nearly clear, better than many antibiotics and roaccutane!
After a couple of week two big cysts grown on my left cheek, so I raised the dosage to 4000IU and I'm still CLEAR (occasional little spots, that soon disappear, but nothing of severe like before).
The only side effect, in my case, is red hot flushing all over my face.
I read that it is common (vitamin d increase temperature skin), but for me it's quite intolerable. So I've cutted to 3000IU/daily and no breakout. Face is still hot, but I can cope with it...
Wondering if do you note this flush, and some tips to reduce it.
