I'm not sure I would recommend B5 for those with dry skin. I wonder actually if those are the ones who experience hair loss, maybe its those who push their skin too hard.
For the previous question 1), I actually wonder if somehow the fats get converted eventually to sebum, and this is where the excess goes. Just a thought, no idea if its possible.
B5 isn't a permanent solution, but it is a possible solution nontheless for those at the end of their wick and need some temporary fix.
The inverse link between dry skin and sebum possibly isn't quite related as thought as well, but maybe ask Bryan for comments on that one in some of the other threads .
I'm pretty sure I have vitamin B5 deficiency. I am only 14 but have been trying so hard for the past 2 years to clear up my acne. I get it all over my face, not horrible, but pretty bad - mostly on my inner cheek area, forehead, temple area, and chin. Yep, the only places I am free of acne are my outer cheeks, nose, and above my lip. Heck, I even get acne on my back and chest. I looked up what the symptoms were for vitamin b5 deficiency, and all of them related to me. Stress, nervousness, adrenaline rushes, oily skin, fatigue. So yeah...I told my mom about it and she said I should start taking a vitamin B5 supplement. Hope it helps and I will try to get back to this thread with my results!
Oh, and one more thing...I honestly think you should never take anything in high doses, that includes vitamins. I am aiming to take around 2-3 GRAMS(not mg like i posted before xD woops) per day not 10 or 20 like alot of people do. You should take it the safe way not dangerous way. Just wanted to let everyone know, thanks
Does anyone get chills taking b5. I took 100mg for 2 months because acne was not bad. Worked for 2 months then quickly built tolerance to it.
I still take a half capsule because i like how it makes my skin look. But does anyone at all get cold or chills from b5 right after taking it?
Hi i've been reading alot bout b5 and i really wanna try it i've been suffering with painful cystic ance all around my jaw line for over a year now. i'm female and 22 years old and convinced its hormonal but i'm not sure if i should start taking birth control to help with it. :/
i'm taking a one a day womens multi vitamin and vitamins called BE-Beautiful from GNC. will that cause any side effects?
also is taking b5 complex a must with b5?? and if so how much do i take with b5 a day?
PLEASE HELP.
Please tell me, i read a lot of messages and i cant understand : after you finish using vitamin b5, ACNE will start again??? b5 helps temporarily? I didnt see anyone said that after i stopped using b5 ACNE went away!! (sorry for my english cause i am from europe)
Please answer my question!

has it worked 4 u?
Hi , I've just today started taking B5 at 2 grams a day. 1 gram in the morning , another at night.
I'll move up to 2 and then see how I go. I'm worrying about one thing , over the last 3 months I've lost a huge amount of weight and I'm currently under going investigation.
Just after I've taken my first tablet I've read in this thread that these can cause weight loss , do they cause it for everyone ?. I'm supposed to be putting weight on.
These B5 were quite expensive too.
Hi october rose sorry for the delay in reply this is the first time ive visited this site in a long time.
Regarding b5 im sad to say that no i havent had any improvements with my dry skin and hair it is awful i can imagine how your feeling or have been feeling.
Its been over 2 years for me now and ive still not seen any major improvement.
my skin and scalp still flake extremely bad ive been drinking litres of water for over a year but that hasnt helped that much really altho it has helped the constant tiredness/fatigue that b5 had left me with.
My digestion is still not good either and my tongue is very thickly coated i believe these are all related to my skin problem,i just dont know what to do anymore i feel like screaming.
Ive cried so much over it and my social life has just totally gone i dont feel like going out anymore i feel ugly ive lost all confidence its terrible
How are things now for you, have things improved?
Hope to hear back from you

Hi shirleyB,my skin is horribly dry now,it flakes constantly and ive had no oil return after coming off b5,actually my skin is even drier now then it was when i was taking them and also im suffering hair loss very badly but i think thats because im still so dry,ive got no oil in my hair to keep it nourished.Im hoping this is just temporaliry though and that within the next few months things should start to get better.I hate being so dry,i do actually want some oil back.
I started on a few a day at first but that did nothing for me so i started to up my dose to 10 a day and that was when i broke out badly so i took the 20 and it was a miracle when i did because i really literally cleared up overnight but i really wouldnt reccomend to any1 to take such high dose because i believe thats why i am now suffering badly from hair loss and very dry skin
If i could go back i would of never have done it.My skin was never this dry before i ever took any b5,it was quite bearable but now it is just very badly dry and im amazed that im still dry after all this time,i was actually expecting to be spotty again within a week of no b5
Goodluck with it anyway if you decide to take it but i wouldnt advice anyone to take as much as i did.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i notice your reply to shirley and read it i couldn't help
but to be curious and ask how is your skin doing now? how are you feeling these days?
has your oil returned?
i was only taking 1gram a day for like 5months i wanted to eventually
stop and deal with it since i though that may-b b5 wasn't going to
be a forever thing just temporary but at month 3 i said ok enough!
quit and i felt like i was going back to normal then i saw my acne returned
and nothing was working for my acne and went back to it for 2 months
the reason i stopped was beacuse i dealt with extremely dry skin, constant toilet
visits pee pee and well the 2nd one lol... dehydration, hair loss, and feared for my health
i finally stopped on the fifth month because i was soooo dry and lost alot of weight
and ive been off it for one month and im still dry!!!! everywhere my hands my arms
im flakey everywhere and i as you want my oils back!
its true it looks unhealthy to look this dry.....
sometimes it feels like how long is this suppose to be i get real
upset over it , hoping that you and i get our oil productions back.
i hope you are doing well pam and that by now things are ok

G'day guys,
I've just picked up Nature's Own Vitamin B5 250mg tablets and have a few questions regarding the product. After reading a thread regarding the positive results of Vitamin C consumption I bought tablets and in just over a week I can already see results.
- Will taking 4g of Vitamin B5 interfere with taking 4g of Vitamin C? I take 500mg of Vitamin C every 2 hours and plan on taking 250mg of Vitamin B5 every 2 hours.
- How do you consume Vitamin B5? (swallow/suck). It doesn't state it on the bottle.
- Unlike the Vitamin C tablets I've been taking, the Vitamin B5 bottle states "Take 1 tablet daily with food or as recommended by your healthcare professional. Vitamin supplements should not replace a balanced diet. If symptoms persist consult with your healthcare professional." How important is it to consult with my doctor because I was planning on starting my B5 intake tomorrow morning.
I know theres a few questions there but any advice would be very much appreciated.
Cheers

Hey there,
You will have no problem taking vitamin B5 with vitamin C. They don't interfere with each other.
As to how you consume it, it really doesn't matter. But since you have it in pill form, you should just swallow them with a glass of water. I wouldn't recommend sucking on them, as the taste is pretty awful. I have the powder version (because it's cheaper) and just empty a Tbsp of it directly in my mouth and wash it down with water. I do this three times a day.
I wouldn't say you'd have to consult with a doctor before starting taking B5. I didn't, and don't know of anyone who did. Unless you have some prior serious medical condition (and even then) I don't see how it could be harmful for anyone, since Vitamin B5 doesn't interfere with other functions of the body besides the oil production in the skin. It's impossible to overdose on it as well, since you pee out any redundant vitamins.
Vitamin B5 did work wonders for me the first couple of months (I was completely clear and not at all oily) but unfortunately I became immune to it. It still helps with the oiliness, but does little if any for my actual acne. Now, this does not happen to everyone, but there are definitely others with the same experience as me. Just want to give you all the information.
With that said I sincerely hope it works well for you. (It will definitely work the first couple of months, which in my opinion, is better then not working at all) There are many people who are on it for years with the same awesome effect. However, it is not a permanent fix. The oil production will return to normal once you stop taking it, resulting in the acne coming back.
Well, good luck to you! Cheers, mate!

Cool, thanks very much for your reply M.I.A.
Tried B5 but it doesn't work. Just so people don't pin their hopes on this vitamin... and it doesn't seem logical that it'll work honestly.
Tried it, it SUCKS!!! Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance, but as I upped my dosage, I broke out WORSE! Not to mention, I felt like absolute S-H-I-T!!! I then tried Caprylic Acid, according to an Anti-Candida site, guess what, that SUCKED as well! These two supplements were definitely NOT of any use!

You will break out from it initially. Thats it probably starting to work. This is an unfortunate side effect of quite a few methods of treatment, especially internal ones.
If you feel like crap (other than you normally get loose stools, stomach cramps etc for a few days), obviously its not worth following anyway, but it may be revisiting if you find nothing else helps.
To all you vitamin b5 users out there be very careful and dont over do it i was taking them for roughly 2 years starting at a lower dosage before upping it to 10grams a day for one whole year (crazy i know) and yes i do really regret it because now ive been diagnosed with coeliac disease and i know 100% this is what caused it
I come from a very healthy family with no history of coeliac disease so i havent inherited it
I was suffering for 2 years with stomach problems, hair loss, dry skin, constipation, diarrea, fatigue etc without knowing what was wrong i made several trips to the doctors but they couldnt find anything wrong apart from low vit d levels so i had to go on suffering until i came across coeliac disease on the internet and started to make all the connections so i went back to the doctors told them what i thought was wrong and it turns out i have coeliac disease and im also allergic to wheat
Since removing gluten and wheat from my diet ive bin seeing some gradual changes in my hair and skin in a good healthy way
I just wish i had a mature head on my shoulders back then and wouldnt of bin so stupid in taking all them tablets because now i have to live with this forever theres no cure
I wish i knew how b5 has caused this could it have changed the way my digestive system works or has it took something out of my body that i needed to break down food i dont know but wish i did
Goodluck to all the rest of you i just hope you dont have to go through what i do and IF you do start to get any of the symptoms i mentioned then get it checked out you could have coeliac disease aswel
Thanks for all the information. I have started on Vitamin B5, yesterday was my third day today I will be starting day 4. So far symptoms I've had, I get so hungry, and I have been getting so sleepy. I'll take naps and I'll wake up feeling sleepier than before. Anyone had this symptom as well? Maybe I just need to start taking Vitamin b-complex.

B5 makes you sleepy? That's odd, seeing as it is a B-vitamin. Maybe that's to do with something else?
