Hopefully someone can help me here, i just started taking pantothentic acid 2 days ago, i also take B-Complex, A, C, D, E, and Zinc. I got NOW pantothentic acid and its the calcium pantothenate which i think is the synthetic form? cuz i have been having pains in my kidneys since i started megadosing with these and im not sure if its just because they are synthetic? also can i megadose more than 1 vitamin at a time?

I've been on 10g B5 (with one B50 complex and 1000mcg biotin per day) for over a month now and I haven't seen any reduction in oil/acne. Please advise.

From what i have read it could take up to 3 months to see good results, and i just read something about biotin causing acne i dont know enough to give an answer but i would look into that.

Thanks Blk13. I've also heard that biotin prohibits the B5 from working effectively. What does everyone else think? When you megadose do you take a biotin or bcomplex and has that caused your skin to stay oily?

Hey I'm considering starting B5 after reading all these posts. My face is getting really oily and i have a few pimples popping out here and there. Just wondering if you need to take vitamin B supplements when you take B5 pills??

so i decided to question the initial premises of this argument and seemed to have discorvered that this so called study by Lit-Hung Leung, M.D. was not published in the "december" 1997 edition of the journal of ortho molecular medicine at all, its actually published in quarters and not monthly at all, see for yourself here- http://orthomolecular.org/library/jom/1997/toc4.shtml

on top of all that, i read the copied versions of the study, and they didnt even define how they were to measure the amount of reduction of acne, they state: "With this treatment regimen, the response is as prompt as it is impressive" without stating what was considered "prompt" or "impressive" which doesnt make it very scientific at all if it isnt fulling requirements of objective measurements.

and again "There is a noticeable decrease in sebum secretion(how was this determined?) on the face usually 2-3 days after initiation of therapy. The face becomes less oily (how much?). After two weeks, existing lesions start to regress while the rate of eruption of new acne lesions begins to slow down.

Yea, so this is pretty fishy indeed.

no wonder why it didnt do shit for me so many years back, but that was before i realized bullshit was everywhere, and i believed just about anything. hopefully i can save a few souls.

thats a slim possibility, again my point is, im not sure there was ever any study done on b5, some one could have just made this all up, thats hilarious to think about.

b5 is not magical.

Hello,

did the research: you can get the cheapest B5 from myprotein [Removed]

I just got:

500g of B5 = …23.95

100g of N Acetyl L Cysteine (NAC) = …5.99

1000 1g caps of Omega 3 = …29.95

360 pills 100% RDA Vitamin B Complex = …5.99

Shipping = …4.5

I do 0.5g B5, 0.5g NAC, 1 B100 pill and 2g Omega 3 4x daily, and after 1 week I can really see some improvements- dryer skin and almost no acne on my back/face/chest! I would use more B5, but I'll burn in hell before I'd harm my hair :)

Just do the math on how much it will cost you per day.

You can get the zinc and magnesium, capping kit and an accurate scale (cheaper on ebay though) there too.

I know it sounds like a commercial, but combating acne since my teens (27 now), I spent lots of money on crappy stuff promising no zits in just 5 minutes, guess what: it did nothing except damage my skin (became oily with dry patches). Extra virgine oil really helps with dry skin, creams are just c**p that causes even more acne.

Just get it from there, even if you don't want to use my discount code. I just wanted to help my fellow 'acne havers' (seems I'll get kicked out of that club in a week or so ;)

Have a nice, affordable acne free life! Summer is nearly here, so watch out beaches here I come! Yupeee!

I've taken B-complex for over a year now. Although the dose was only 400% DRI. I must note though that too much B12 actually causes acne. When I was taking a multi with B12 (over 17Ag) being the main aggressor. It went away as soon as I stopped.

I'll switch to complex with additional B5 and see what happens. Hopefully I'll finally clear up.

two very interesting things that have been brought up on this board are that taking L-Cysteine can reduce the amount of B5 megadosing from 10 grams to basicall 1-2. And also I was wondering if Biotin really does have any correlation to acne flare ups.

For me personally ive tried Accutane 3 times and it does work but with terrible side effects, and in the end the acne always comes back. So I tried the B5 megadosing at it really DOES work. I personally take L-Cysteine because i read it can reduce the insane dosage, but i also take biotin 3 times a day because i read that biotin can counteract the possible hairloss side effect that B5 megadosing has been said to have.

I was just curious if i stop the biotin supplementation, will the B5 work better? And also i was wondering if anybody else has tried the combo of B5 + L-Cysteine?

Please think twice before megadosing on Vitamin B5

I was on 10 grams of vitmain B5 for like 6 months two years ago and it did indeed help my facial acne, but it caused a severe internal imbalance which I'm still struggling to fix. I slowly upped the dosage to 10 grams and always took a vitamin B complex so I did everything "right"

I have fatigue and severe gut issues(diarrhea, bloating and more). So for those of you who believe there are no side effects or that the side effects goes away after you quit the vitamin b5, think again! My side-effects didn't develope until month 4 or something and persisted after the course.

And I'm not the only one, recently I came across this thread: http://www.cyclingforums.com/archive/index.php/t-47099.html online and this guy had the exact same issues as me.

I've also been on isotretonoin(accutane) and I would highly recommend that before going on vitamin B5.

does anybody know what could be the cause of a thick white coated tongue mainly at the back with whites down the sides along with flakey skin, dandruff, hair loss and a few other symptoms that occurred after i stopped taking high amounts of vitamin b5?

White coated tongue is also one of my symptoms that occured after the vitamin B5 megadosing. From a lot of what I've read online it could be releated to yeast(candida), but there's no sure way to know.

Hi shirleyB,my skin is horribly dry now,it flakes constantly and ive had no oil return after coming off b5,actually my skin is even drier now then it was when i was taking them and also im suffering hair loss very badly but i think thats because im still so dry,ive got no oil in my hair to keep it nourished.Im hoping this is just temporaliry though and that within the next few months things should start to get better.I hate being so dry,i do actually want some oil back.

I started on a few a day at first but that did nothing for me so i started to up my dose to 10 a day and that was when i broke out badly so i took the 20 and it was a miracle when i did because i really literally cleared up overnight but i really wouldnt reccomend to any1 to take such high dose because i believe thats why i am now suffering badly from hair loss and very dry skin

If i could go back i would of never have done it.My skin was never this dry before i ever took any b5,it was quite bearable but now it is just very badly dry and im amazed that im still dry after all this time,i was actually expecting to be spotty again within a week of no b5

Goodluck with it anyway if you decide to take it but i wouldnt advice anyone to take as much as i did.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i notice your reply to shirley and read it i couldn't help

but to be curious and ask how is your skin doing now? how are you feeling these days?

has your oil returned?

:| i was only taking 1gram a day for like 5months i wanted to eventually

stop and deal with it since i though that may-b b5 wasn't going to

be a forever thing just temporary but at month 3 i said ok enough!

quit and i felt like i was going back to normal then i saw my acne returned

and nothing was working for my acne and went back to it for 2 months

the reason i stopped was beacuse i dealt with extremely dry skin, constant toilet

visits pee pee and well the 2nd one lol... dehydration, hair loss, and feared for my health

i finally stopped on the fifth month because i was soooo dry and lost alot of weight

and ive been off it for one month and im still dry!!!! everywhere my hands my arms

im flakey everywhere and i as you want my oils back!

 its true it looks unhealthy to look this dry.....

sometimes it feels like how long is this suppose to be i get real

upset over it , hoping that you and i get our oil productions back.

i hope you are doing well pam and that by now things are ok

Hi all. I have been experimenting with B5. I have been on the supplement for about 5 grams for 2.5 weeks. Besides telling you that it flat out works I want to share with you all my conditions before taking B5.

My body weight is 170 pounds. I am olive skin complexion. I have lots of hair on my arms and legs. My hair grows faster than normal and it is very thick and black. This is a basic observation of my body weight.

I suffer from moderate acne. According to my analysis I get a pimple every other day on average. Sometimes they disappear within one or two days. Sometimes i get a big pimple that can last weeks and then dry out and form hyper-pigmentation. Usually resulting in acne forming at the same spot again. and worsening the already hyper pigmented area.

I also suffer from hydrolysis- a condition of excessive sweating in the palms and soles of my feet.

I suffer from oily skin with pores that produce sabbaceous puss around the nose and chin crevis.

I started taking B5 at 4.5 grams a day for the first week. I noticed that my face was less oily with in the first few days. i would take 3 pills in the morning, 3 at evening and 3 at night. I was satisfied with my condition progress.

I still had few acne breaks and my skin was still oily so I decided to up my dosage and change my routine to better suit my body. Instead of depending on what time I take my pills I have switched to whenever I decide to eat something. This has worked wonders for me.

Right now I take 3 pills every time I eat. 2-3 times a day and before I go to bed I take 4 pills.

Fluctuating between 9-12 pills a day.

I can honestly say that this has been a miracle drug for my given conditions.

I have suffered for years of acne break outs and embarrassing hand and sole sweating.

I don't know why these things work wonders for me but for the past 3 weeks I have less sweat on my hands and soles and less acne break outs. Maybe one to 2 times a week. I think the reason for my break outs are not because of me not taking enough pills it is because I have chosen to drink and eat foods that my body can not tolerate like preservatives.

Based on my three week trial I have recommend people with my condition to take at least 5 grams a day for two month to see if you feel better.

My friends say I look better only after 3 weeks.

Side affects. Okay there are a few side affects that I have managed to get under control. One side affect is gas. I get gas from popping 2grams. This only occurred if I did not eat a hearty meal. (Most of the time when I ate just a bagel and drank some juice.) I changed that to eating a bowl of cereal with essential vitamins and snack ( I recommend a fruit like apple) an hour later. Drink water. A full glass I recommended. Cut coffee out of your diet. Well for me coffee pulls my blood pressure up and makes me sweat so I stop drinking it. It actually caused me to break out. Was never a coffee drinker. For coffee drinkers maybe they hae tolerance but i do not.

One other side affect was since I wear contacts my eyes dry out but not that much as with taking b5. B5 dried my eyes out so much when I went to 12 pills a day. I have to get a solution for my eyes.

My lips get dried out.

maybe there is a sexual side affect in my case. Personally I feel less sexually active than before my trial. In laymans terms I don't horny all the time. Lol.

There is nothing else besides these that are major concerns and these three are absolotuly nothing I can't deal with.

Currently drinking a lot of water tends to deal with dehydration mid day on my lips and eyes.

I also notice a beer or two a day actually helps my skin complexion when on B5. Don't ask me why... It is just me. Not encouraging you to drink. Actually it is said a man drinking 1 to 2 beers a day can be good for your health but I strongly recommend only staying with 2 beers max. I lost friends and family to alcoholism so if you can't control your drinking stay away from it entirely. Do not smoke..period.

Note- this testimony is based on a 2.5- 3week period. Will do follow ups in 1 month period. I take a sort of B complex. It is a one a day multi vitamin for seniors. It is like B25. I take this mid day between meals. I also eat a vitamin enriched cereal with essential B vitamins.

I take 300 mg of Pantethine, 3 times a day, so 900mg total. It works the same as megadosing on B5. And it's safer, you don't have to take so many B5 pills. I heard that you can get calcium buildup in your kidney if you take B5 megadose for a long time. It's dangerous. A person had to get a painful kidney stone removed because of the calcium buildup from megadosing on B5.

Pantethine is safer and works the same. It is the active ingredient in Vitamin B5.

are you serious!? how do you know this tell me all please... was it a friend of yours??

I have been reading all about Vitamin B5 for a while and here is my opinion.

1, It says people with acne is lacking metabolism of fats. If that is the case, wouldn't you think people like me who has had acne for the last 15 years are VERY FAT as my body can't break down fat and I am also not doing any exercise. However, I am 163cm and 44kgs. I have always been like that since I am 18. And I have done blood tests and have never found any abnormality in areas such as cholesterol. Can anyone explain this for me?

2, It says Vitamin B5 helps to reduce oil production. What if someone has NORMAL/DRY skin NOT OILY skin? I used to have oily skin when I was a teenage but I am 29 now and my skin is not oily at all.

3, Mega dose Vitamin B5. Hmm...I won't mega dose anything...as I think any quick fix methods to any disease can cause problems in other areas of your health. I read someone mentioned a white coated tongue which reminds me a couple of years ago, a Chinese traditional doctor told me a white coated tongue is a sign of a damaged/weak spleen which works with your stomach for digestion.

I can understand how frustrated people with severe acne feel and when they have tried sth which works, they don't tend to think about other potential problems in future but only celebrate and spread this GOOD news to the world until one day they realize they are on Vitamin B5 forever and develop some other issues internally.

Please think wisely, We are not trying to get rid of acne ONLY, we are seeking the way of a healthier life in general.

Yeah I'd like to see this guys questions be answered. I as well don't have oily skin-at all. I actually have dry skin. Wondering if taking B-5 would be a bad move, and what type of B5 would be suggested for dry skin?
