Hi Pam, Thanks for the info,
I'm hoping since I was only taking B5 for a month, and the highest dose I got to was 6g, for a few days, it's not going to be long before my hair turns back to the way it was. But atleast I can prepare for the worst. I am male, thank god, and can go with a buzz cut, I have in the past.
What is TE?
Have you ever tried straight Pantethine?
Hi stm1975
TE=Telogen effluvium is a form of nonscarring alopecia characterized by diffuse hair shedding, often with an acute onset. A chronic form with a more insidious onset and a longer duration also exists.1,2 Telogen effluvium is a reactive process caused by a metabolic or hormonal stress or by medications. Generally, recovery is spontaneous and occurs within 6 months.Telogen effluvium is the name for temporary hair loss due to shedding of resting or telogen hair after some shock to the system. New hair continues to grow. Telogen hair has a bulb or club-shaped tip.
You can look this up in google if you want to know more.
I havent tried pantethine no but ive heard alot about it so i cant really help you there, sorry.
Im not going to take anymore supplements whatsoever im just going to let my hair normalise by itself which am hopeful will happen especially if i have TE which does sound alot like what i have
You might be more lucky then me as you was only taking them for a short period so you should recover quickly whereas i was taking them for over a year so i will most probably recover more slowly
You are also alot luckier aswel as your a male and you guys can disguise you hair loss as most of you have short hair anyway or have no hair at all
Anyway good luck and it would be good to know how you get on
I have been taking 10 grams/day for about 1 month now. However, I hope to have surgery sometime this winter. Anyone know if it is wise to stop taking the mega dose beforehand, and if so, how soon before going under the knife? I am kinda worried it will inhibit my healing and lead to more scar formation? Thanks!
Interesting in as far as the site tries to unprove the theory with absence of proof, it will never be a winner. Its one of the many garbage sites in reality. B5 works (sure it may not work for everyone, but as a concept it works). Thats the first simple fact. If the site proceeded to find out how it worked, but alert people as to why its a bad choice (as there are definite dangers and side effects!), I'd be positive about it.
To try and remove one "possible" solution for many who are emotionally scarred for years, without proper enquiry is bordering on negligent and damaging for me. To warn people about the dangers of it in itself is fine. To try and make money from a site along those lines, especially products that then include B5 without "proof", is a rip.
Link should be removed by mods.
Hey all,,
Update on STOPPING B5, I was experiencing some hair loss with the high amounts of B5. I only got up to 6g, not the 10 recommended. After about 2 weeks of no B5, my hair is slowly starting to return to normal.
I started taking broccoli pills as some people had some success with that. Not sure if it's the B5 still in my system, or the broccoli pills, but I've been pretty clear. It also could be the candida diet I've been on for about 4 months. Who knows?
I said I would try Pantethine after my hair turned to normal, I'm staying fairly clear, so for now I will stay with my program now until I see some more breakouts.
Has anyone with non-oily skin tried b5? 20 years old, my skin is not oily at all, although unfortunately I do have quite a few pimples and blackheads. Been trying b5 for about 2 weeks, from 5g the first three days to 10g the rest, taken 4 times a day at 2.5g each time. Have not seen any positive results at all.
The only effect I have seen so far is that my lips have been very chapped, and occasionally some bad bowel movements.
So ive been on pantothenic acid for almost a year now. I had pretty bad acne, and this was the only thing that has ever worked. I used to take 12g a day. and now im at 8g. I want to lower it to 6g but everytime i do, i start to break out and then i go back to 8g and everything is fine.
As for the side effects, I havent experienced hair loss. only thing i really experienced is I have to use number 2 a lot when i go to the bathroom.
Anyone who went through b5 and has stayed cleared after lowering or stopped using the dosage can help me?
Hi Lakers4life i was megadosing b5 for a whole year taking 20 a day up until march this year.Ive been off em for almost 9 months now and im still totally clear but i have dry skin in replace.I didnt lower my dose i just completely stopped which probably wasnt so good but im still clear anyway.I dont know for how much longer though

Hey Pam_B, how was your acne before you took B5, were they moderate? Also how long did it take to get clear?
Hi shirleyB my acne wasnt too bad at first but when i took a small dose of b5 to start with it broke me out badly so thats why i took a big dose after and as soon as i took the 20 it literally cleared me up overnight.I still continued taking them though so they wouldnt come back

Thanks pam_B. I'm also wondering how small of a dose did you start with? I'm thinking about starting B5 myself but am interested in low dose like 1-2g only. You still have dry skin after 9 months of stopping? Would you say you had dry or oily skin to begin with? If your skin was dry before then B5 would just make it even drier...
Hi shirleyB,my skin is horribly dry now,it flakes constantly and ive had no oil return after coming off b5,actually my skin is even drier now then it was when i was taking them and also im suffering hair loss very badly but i think thats because im still so dry,ive got no oil in my hair to keep it nourished.Im hoping this is just temporaliry though and that within the next few months things should start to get better.I hate being so dry,i do actually want some oil back.
I started on a few a day at first but that did nothing for me so i started to up my dose to 10 a day and that was when i broke out badly so i took the 20 and it was a miracle when i did because i really literally cleared up overnight but i really wouldnt reccomend to any1 to take such high dose because i believe thats why i am now suffering badly from hair loss and very dry skin
If i could go back i would of never have done it.My skin was never this dry before i ever took any b5,it was quite bearable but now it is just very badly dry and im amazed that im still dry after all this time,i was actually expecting to be spotty again within a week of no b5
Goodluck with it anyway if you decide to take it but i wouldnt advice anyone to take as much as i did.
I've been taking 500 mg of B5 for a couple months now. Definitely noticed positive results within the 1st month. That said, I am not completely clear, but I don't get huge, long lasting cysts anymore -- I still get some cysts, but they're much smaller and gone within a day or two. I'm not going to risk taking a larger dose and I'm happy with the results I got from the 500 mg. I also take a B-100 everyday. This amount did not seem to have much effect on my oily skin though.

Hi pam_B, I'm sorry to hear about your skin and hair issue. 20g a day is really quite a bit and I wouldn't be surprise that the side effects will last a bit longer than usual. The thing that we'd do for clear skin...Try use a very intense moisturizer for the time being, even Vaseline plus jojoba oil. Does your skin become red because of the dryness? I'm planning on taking a low dose for to avoid side effects but that also means it'll take much longer to work, if it works at all..

I'm so glad to hear from someone who's taking a lower dose & it's helping. Zenergy, did you get an IB at this dosage???
I did not get an initial breakout from the 500 mg. For a brief period, maybe one week, I did try to increase it to 1-1.5 gm and that amount did seem to cause some new eruptions. I stopped the higher amount not because of the breakouts, but because I just don't like taking massive doses of anything. I did read in the product review section of a few people who took 500 mg and it helped them also (that's why I initially tried it). When I'm done with my 500 mg pills, I'm going to buy the powdered version and try to alternate between 500 and 250 mg a day. Also, I was going to wait to post this because I like to give products a few months to know if they work, but for about two weeks now my skin has not gotten any cysts (some light breakouts) and has been much less oily. I started using tepezcohuite soap and pomade and a homemade msm toner. I use the soap twice a day and use the pomade 4-5 x's a week at night. The msm toner, I use twice a day. For the toner, I add 12 gm of msm to 1/4 cup of water (refrigerate). During the day, I have to layer lotion over the msm toner so it's not all powdery. I started this to help with my pitted scarring (no results yet of course), but it's helped with my acne so far.

Hi Zenergy, I have deep cysts myself that never come to heads so I am glad to hear it helps with cysts. The other thing is oily skin, I'm hoping that a low dose can also reduce my sebum secretion somewhat. Did you get a reduction of oil within a week or in days??
If you want to try even a lower dose, you can buy the 100mg B5 pills from vitamin world. I got one of these and I'm planning on starting with 250mg a day, when I indeed begin the regimen.
Hi shirleyB,i did used to suffer very bad hot flushes while i was taking b5 which caused me to flush in my face and go red but since ive been off them its not been so fequent, thank god.I used to hate that
Thanks for ur advice on using some moistriser but it doesnt help me and theres no point in me moisturising my skin cos its already dead unfortunatly
I do wish to have some oil back very soon.I dont look healthy without it

I did not notice a decrease in oil using the B5, atleast not much of one. I'm very oily though, so you might have better luck. I did notice a decrease in oil within the first week of using the msm and tepezcohuite. I'm not positive, but I think it's due to the msm toner -- it leaves a powdery residue and even with the layer of moisturizer my skin has a matte look. I don't get nearly as much shine thoughout the day anymore and hopefully that will continue. However, just for the record, tepezcohuite is suppose to help with oily skin too, so I can't say if it's one or the other or the combination. I will keep you updated with how things go. Good luck.

This is interesting, hot flushes are usually caused by B3 Niacin but then different people response differently so I'm not surprised. I see what you mean, when your skin keep flaking off it's difficult to moisturize...Maybe you need to take or eat something internally to stimulate sebum secretion again, altho I don't know what...fried food?! Perhaps something to offset the effect of B5...how about a sustain dose of other vit B except B5??

Oh, I thought when you mentioned a decrease in oil, it was due to the B5 . I'm quite oily so I'm hoping it'll help at least a little bit, I;m not expecting it to make my skin totally matt or dry of course. I've heard about the use of msm but I'm not sure what tepezcohuite is...
Please keep me update Zenergy as I am planning on taking the same approach as you do..
Hi shirleyB to be honest i thought that as soon as i started to eat greasy food/chocolate etc that i'd start to get oily agen but that doesnt work.Ive been eating total crap for months now but i still havent had even 1 spot return,it is good when you can eat anything you like and stay clear but i do actually wish that by eating junk food it would make my skin oily cos i am really so dry,i dont like it at all.
I was thinking of taking some biotin but ive changed my mind because ive heard that it can cause worse acne and i dont want to bring my acne back worse then it was.Im just not going to take anymore supplements whatsoever, especially after b5 has caused me to lose my hair im scared to touch anything else
I wish you goodluck with it anyway if you decide to take it x
