Thank you, Junkeroos, for the information . . . I am feeling like this much improvement this fast can't just be the "placebo effect," but who knows? Maybe it is; a little time will tell. In the meantime, I did happen to have a dermatologist appt. a couple days ago, and told her about the B5 dosing, because I wanted to know if she had heard of, or knew, anything about it. She had not heard of it, but at the same time, she did say that she didn't see a problem with higher-dosing because one's body would just excrete any excess (kind of like Vitamin C). Like all opinions, one can find someone of equal education who might say just the opposite. I think that is part of what makes so hard to figure out what the best approach might be. (I guess what works and doesn't destroy your health in the process!!!) Junkeroos, have you tried the B5? Anyone else out there? What is/was your experience, and are you still on it?(And is it still working?)
This is a great site. I am learning a lot, and it is all helpful. Thank you.
I have been happy with my B5 treatment (about 6 months now). I'm just wondering for those of it who have been on it for over a year if they experienced any new side effects other than:
Dry Lips
Stomach Growling
The main reason I ask is that I did just have a real bad stomach ache (which I never get) with shooting pains and was wondering if it may be related.
I'm curious, has anyone used the products at Acnemiracle.com? They combined both Pantothenic acid and Pantethine in a drink mix. I'm not a fan of drinks, if they were capsules I'd take it. Their prices are very reasonable though.
They seem to have quality products.
Their Toner and AcniCure topical treatment contains 5% Niacinamide which is more than the required 4%. Niacinamide has been proven to treat acne.
Clinical study of topical Vitamin B3 (Nicotinamide/Niacinamide)
Topical B3 is available as Metazene (5%) or Papulex (4%).
Hi guys,
I'm from the Uk and been using B5 for about 5 months now. First two months i built up from 5mg to te high dose of 10mg. i saw no improvement at all in these two months,
when i went up to 10mg i first had a huge severe outbreak when my whole face was covered (and i mean my whole face, over nose under eyes, nostrils infected, chin jaw line and cheeks looked like red scabby puss filled dried up spots with black heads). It claimed down, still further outbreaks come along on cheeks and chin then second month when it was calming down further it broke out again in severe fashion.....went to see derm he was shocked and very worried!!!! though didnt think it was anything to do with b5 as i had already bin on it three months...only once experienced a bit of diarreahoea, no side effects for me.
So im still on them, as well as my prescriptions, but honestly b5 isnt really working for me, not sure why i persist using it, waste of money....guess im just scared its gunna break out all serious again....hmmmmmm maybe ive my body has become immune to the dose of B5 now.
Also by my own understanding B5 is meant to reduce oil production, now if your acne is not related to oil production, i.e. you have resistant acne bacteria on your face...i logically think the bacteria is the problem not the oil. so i think my acne is directly caused by bacteria rather than increased oil production.
Just my opinion anyway
new to the board.. but thought i would add my 2 cents.. i started taking b5 about a year ago.. at first noticed slight improvement.. first on 20mg then dropped to 10mg.. often my skin feels hot after taking it (flushing) even tho this was very uncomfortable.. i decided it was worth it if the results could last.. lately.. my skin has got pretty bad and the b5 doesnt seem to be having any effect.. plus the flushing seems to happen more often..so as of today i have discontinued use of it.
Ok I have a couple questions, hoping someone can help me out.
1. I'm currently taking 500mg tetracycline, and am also doing Dan's regimen. Will I be ok using b5 too?
2. I purchased some b5 here:
http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/browse/sku_de...pe=SearchResult
But also read some junk about taking some B-complex as well? Can someone link me to where I can buy some? Is it absolutely neccessary to take it too or will I see results with just the b5?
3. I know how much b5 to take, but how much b-complex should I take/buy?
The link below will tell you all there is to know about B5:
Basically, you'll need the following supplements when megadosing with B5 (10g):
B-100 complex (taken once a day)
Biotin (4mg/day) - unless it's already included in the B-100 complex
OptiZinc (30mg-100mg/day) - unless you are taking AcneMiracle or Evolution-X
others:
L-Cystine vs. L-Cysteine:
http://www.moondragon.org/health/nutrition...ds/cystine.html
What you should do is instead take:
NAC a.k.a. N-acetyl cysteine (500mg-1.5g/day)
L-Methionine (500mg)
Some say to just supplement with Brewer's Yeast (Twinlabs or Solgar) with the B5 but I looked at the contents and you'll have to take a lot per serving in order to get to the same amount of dosage provided above. Maybe you can take is a multi-vitamin supplement instead since it has other ingredients beneficial to your body.
So there, that's your regimen.
Well i have been doin B5 now for excatly 1 month, I have seen no improvement at all I have little over 10 days supply left (@ 20g a day) so unless it kicks in soon thats it for me i guess. I feel really dissapointed, is there any chance it might still kick in after a month?
Do you think its worth carrying on?
I look around this site and people claim results in periods of only 2 days etc or a couple of weeks. My skin is very oily and it has been for several years now.

After reading a number of posts about how B5 works for awhile and then seems to "quit working" for a lot of people, I would like to hear if there are people out there who have used it for longer periods of time (ex. over a year or more) without it losing its effectiveness.
hi ppl. im kinda new here so work with me..... ive been reading all the posts regarding vitamin b5. because there are so many opinions and different sayings on different things, for those who have a very good knowledge about wat to take, here are my questions:
1. does it matter wat brand of b5 i buy? if so which brands and where do i get it the CHEAPEST( i m a student who works for money so value matters but i do not want crap cheap ones; if it is good quality i wiling to pay)?
2. do i need optizinc? again could u recommend where to get it.
3. does the brand for B complex matter? which one do i take v-100 or v-50
4.do i need biotin? if so how much
5. in terms of taking medicine: for clear skin i should take : b5, zinc,b complex, and biotin right? do i need anything added to the list?
i post this because of all the confusion i had by reading all these posts and F.A.Q.
plz help me out.... i want to get my face clear... i've had it for 2 years now and im really stressed from it.
good questions I need the answer to all that also^
Try 5 years for me . Sad thing is I was around when the whole B5 craze first came about on the General Acne chat forum for EZboards. Anyways Im tired of topicals. Their a waste the only that every worked was carleys and almay smoothing treatment. But my skin is still oily and i get breakouts on the forhead at least 4 to 5 nasty ones a month.
Ok, I'll try to answer all these to the best of my ability.

1. The weightloss thing affects everyone differently. I have lost a tremendous amount of weight since starting the therapy a month ago (dropped about 20 lbs). However, I'm doing 20g's instead of 10, so that may affect me. What I would say is try it out for a bit, and if you start to lose too much weight, then discontinue use.
2. Never heard of this, the B5 I'm taking has zinc in it and it's working just fine.
3. I honestly do not know why this happens, in all respects, it shouldn't. There are many people, however, that don't have this happen.

1. Ever hear the saying "you get what you paid for"? Well that's just as true with vitamins. Places selling cheaper vitamins tend to cut corners in order to make it so cheap. Just go with a reliable company and you should be fine.
2. I take mine with optizinc, but it's built in. Acnemiracle sells the blend with optizinc already in it, so that's where I get it from. If you want tablets, Solgar seems to be a popular brand so you might check them out.
3. Again, you get what you paid for. Just make sure it's a reliable company. B-50 twice a day is plenty. Some people get the 100 and take it once, but I think it would be better to have it spread out more.
4. It's not "needed" but it helps to prevent the rare side effect of hairloss. Just pick up some biotin and take whatever dosage the bottle says and you'll be fine.
5. Those vitamins are a great combo and SHOULD give you great results. There's nothing I would add, just make sure you get high quality brands.

According to acnemiracle, powder vitamins have a higher absorption rate. I've tried both and I like powder better, though it's rancid to take. Either way you should get the results your looking for, but again I must stress that it's a good brand.

Nope, the biggest thing that will be effected is your digestive system...
To counteract the side effects of taking megadoses of B5, you need B-100 complex, OptiZinc and Biotin. Sometimes they are all included in a B complex vitamin. My suggestion if you don't want taking so many vitamins is to supplement with a Mega multivitamin such as this:
Contains the required dose of B-complex, optizinc & biotin with an added bonus of a multivitamin which contains all the necessary ingredients for optimum health and is also a very good source of antioxidants such as grape extracts, green tea, etc., plus cleanses your system of toxins with ingredients like milk thistle, bilberry extract, chlorella, spirulina, etc...all ingredients contained are helpful to maintain good healthy skin among others.
The only thing I do is avoid foods with partially hydrogenated oils, and excessive amounts of sugar. Just use your best judgement. If you know it's not good for you then why would you eat it? I don't reccomend an extreme diet change (unless your diet is only fast food), just try and avoid too much junk. Now and then is cool though. I still indulge in a little Wendy's every so often (like once a month...if that).
