I am going out on a limb and I'm going to say 5 grams has actually proven to be more effective than the 10 grams.

I'm glad to hear it. People often say you have to take 10g/day to see the difference, I think that's BS. Everyone is different, and I'm sure for some people too much B5 can actually worsen acne. I'm currently on 6g/day and started on 2g/day for 2 weeks. I've been on 6g/day for about a month now. I'll probably drop half a gram tomorrow and keep at 5.5g/day for 2 weeks. Then down to 5g/day for 2 weeks. And so on.

I agree!! I'm on 6 grams right now, and I have seen results so I'm staying there. I think the only way I'd go up in dosage right now is if all of a sudden I started breaking out again. Otherwise I'm going to stay at 6 grams. I believe I was having results at even lower dosage (2 grams), but I wanted to get better NOW, if you know what I mean. For people that have patience, definitely trying any dosage could be beneficial. Other ways to prove its working - My hands have been very dry. Little pimples on back and chest stopped. The inside of my nose is a little dry. This sort of reminds me of accutane, except my face didn't purge, and get overly dry. It feels more normal as opposed to combination dry/oily.

i don't understand how this whole b5 vitamin thing works!!! can someone please explain! :(

Check out the very first post of this thread, it explains it all.

i did. i still don't get it.

do i take 10g of vitamin b daily?... do i take it all at once or throught out the day?

Hallo everybody!!!!!

My name is Andrew and I am from Rome (Italy)

I have started takeing B5 plus B complex and I'm going to start Vilantae too. Since now (3 days) all I can see is my face getting less oily than usual.

Anyhow I have a question for you my friends:

Do yours doctors prescribe you the B5?????

Here in Italy doctors don' t even know that B5 can be used for acne treatament.

Here in Italy doctors say that high doses of B5 is dangerous and they do not raccomand it.

I would like to be reassured from you and I would like to hear from someone that his/her doctor agree with takeing B5 in high quantity like 6-7 grams per day.

Thanks a lot!

bye.

what's your dosage of b5 and b complex???

u should not take it once day, just divide it. up to 10 grams a day, so take 2,5 grams in the mornin, 2,5g noon etc. none mental side effects i read of, besides headache.

-

i have a question, probably asked here several times.

does the powder works EXACTLY like the pills ? or its even better / worse ?

I actually have not used the powder. From what I have read it does not taste so good. Technically it should work just as the powder does though. B5 is B5 is B5 one would think. I'm no expert though.

I just wanted to add my two cents to this thread. I tried the B5 for six weeks at 10 grams per day and I got absolutely zero results aside from dry skin and fluorescent green urine. Back to the tanning bed for me.

If you use blue toilet bowl cleaner the green urine would make total sense.

Yellow and blue make green.

I was on 10 grams per day for just over a month. Very little if any results. I cut down to 5 grams a day and am noticing results now. Absolutely no side effects right now.

No...it's the b5. It makes your urine like glow in the dark.

I'm on a real, real weak dose of b5 right now, and I think it's already helping. Planning on moving up to just a little bit -- a gram or so -- and seeing what the effects are there.

I know, but green???? Florescent yellow, yes, but green?? I just haven't heard of anyone's urine turning green from the B5.

Wow, I am just about to start on accutane this week but seeing this wonderful option I might just try it... I don't know if my derma would be too happy about it since I don't think she would sell me vitamin b5 instead of accutane. Oh well, I need to search for this b5 thingie now.

I'm using birth control pills (Dianne 35) to control my hormones.

I also take Fish Oil and spirulina

Is it ok to take B5 at the same time as well?

It's perfectly safe to take B5 with birth control pills.

I also have 2 more questions

I bought some B5 already but the recommended dosage is one tablet (250mg) a day

Some people here take 1-10g a day. Is that too much?

And why do I have to take it with B complex vitamin?

B5 is water-soluble. Your body will take what it needs and discard what it does not. You will notice your urine color to be a flourescent yellow after taking B5. That is your body throwing away what it doesn't need.

Taking this much vitamin b5 might cause a deficiency in the other b vitamins. I also think it's utilized more effectively in your body when combined with the other B's. Think of it like baking cookies. If you have all the ingredients together but no flour, the dough won't be complete.

Therefore you need to take a B-Complex along with the B5. I take the B-Complex twice daily. Once in the morning and once in the evening.

(This is not medical advice)

B-Complex is different than taking just a multi-vitamin. B Vitamins are interdependent upon each other. You should take it above and beyond the multi-vitamin.

I just take Super B-complex from Wal-Mart. I take one B-complex in the morning with 2.5 grams of B5 and one in the evening with 2.5 grams of B5. I also take Biotin 1500 mg once a day. (Biotin promotes healthy skin, hair, and nails)

Is the multivitamin necessary?

I ordered the B5 online today and already bought the B-Complex and a Women's One-A-Day multivitamin. I know it can't hurt, but I feel like that's a lot of pills, so if I don't necessarily need the multivitamin I'd gladly cut it out.

I also bought 50mg of Zinc because I read that it also helps, but now I'm thinking it might be unnecessary.

PS- I got the B5 at the Puritan's Pride website. They are having a SUPER sale. Buy 1 Get 1 Free, Buy 2 Get 3 Free, all the way up to Buy 50 Get 75 Free. And the shipping is only $3.95 no matter how many you get. I love being a cheapskate. :)

Edited to add:

I think I found my answers here.

"I also take a normal vitamin supplement to get some extra minerals and other vitamins."

"Zinc is maybe also recommended to take when using B5."

It just seems like going from taking no pills to taking 10g B5, a B-Complex, 50mg Zinc, and a multivitamin (which already has some B1, B2, B5, B6, B12 and Zinc) a day is a whole lot.

But I'm no doctor, so what do I know? :)

Personally, I do not take a multi-vitamin. And I'm doing just fine.

TAC hows the B5 progress?

I started out taking the 10 grams per day. I did that for just over a month or so. I did not see much progress. I cut down to only 5 grams per day. 2.5 in the a.m. and 2.5 in the pm. I do see results. Is it because I cut down? I don't know. Because it could have also been the amount of time I had been taking it. But regardless, I do see results. I had an area under my jawline that was just full of clogged pores/little bumps. They are 97% clear now. I have made it through having my monthly friend Flo visit with no new breakout. That was very kewl. Normally I would get at least one or two during that time. Other areas have cleared up as well. My temples are clear and smooth as well as my chest which just had small bumps/clogged pores. I've been taking B5 now for about 2 months.

The more I read about B5, the more confused I get. :)

Most people here seem to agree to start with 5g for 3 days, up it to 10g for 3 months, then down to 5g again. Its also recommened to split the dosage and do half in the AM and half in the PM.

Problem is, I bought 5g pills, which will be fine during the 3 months of 10g, but will I be okay for the 5g days taking it all at once or should I return them for 2.5g pills?

I use 500 mg capsules. As far as oil production, I would have to say I am less oily.

That's what I was going to ask. I never heard of 5 g pills.

I think he meant 500 grams... I don't think manufacturers would be able to put 5 grams of pantothenic acid in a capsule, that would be as big as a teaspoon. Which is virtually impossible to swallow and impossible for manufacturer's to create...
