NdnRomeo- I've started taking fish oil caps recently and the past few days I've been experiencing a lot of headaches and occasional dizziness. Do you think it could be caused by the fish oil? These are the capsules I use... http://www.amazon.com/Nature-Made-Fish-Ome...s/dp/B0000DJAQU
I usually take either 2 or 4 capsules a day... depending on whether I remember to take them.
Lessen it for the first few days, it's not unheard of that it can happen. Take 1 or 2, see how that goes. If it still persist, then stop. See if it continues and if it's related. Just test it out for the next two or so days and get back to me. How much water do you drink?

Ah 😉 I knew it, that's why I asked. Fish oil hydrates your skin well, but you need water.
Start drinking!

😆 k thanks man
I'm starting my new semester now and since I'm eating lunch outside, can I take a fish oil softgel, wrap it around in a piece of tissue paper and put it in my pocket so that I can take it after having my lunch? Will the body heat destroy the fish oil? 😀
You should be fine, or just keep it in your bag, it's generally cooler in there =)
hey im about to go buy sum fish oil today, still trying to work out how many i should take considering ive never used it before.
ive not bought it yet but it seems expensive mainly due to the high numbers of tablets people are taking per day. or do the actual fish oil tablets come in boxes of like 500 or so?
Thanks for your response! Seems like you are responding to everyone's inquiries on this topic...must be quite the chore!Im taking Spring Valley Enteric Coated Omega 3 Fish Oil softgels. I have eaten fish before...not on a regular basis, though. I guess it must be a coincidence. Oh, well...im in Houston as well...weather sucks anyway!...so staying at home isnt too bad.
Nah, not a chore at all, I enjoy being of help somehow 🙂
Oh man, Houston is going to get bad 🙁 Humidity is such a killer, it's like constant moisturizer and wetness. What part of Houston are you from?
http://www.theonion.com/content/news_brief...dical_discoverysorry if someone already posted this, just thought it was appropriate!
That is a great article! Thank you for finding that and sharing.
I live in Missouri City...near Sugarland. Yea, this humidity does not help my skin OR my hair! Theres alot of small bodies of water around here so theres always fog in the morning too...kinda creepy actually. Which part of Houston are you from?

They usually come in high amounts. Check the brand listed on amazon, it's 400 count. If you go to costco or sams you can pick it up there. Or if you just want to take it for a test spin, buy walmart's brand, or whichever you prefer, and take 1 gram a day to see how you like it. Generally that will give you an indication over a period of time on how it's working too.
I am currently on a 40 day juice fast and Ill keep you guys updated to see if anything happens good with my skin. All I take is gardens of life green drink, juice and my fish oil pills. Now I eat a few baby carrots with my fish oil to make sure it is absorbed.Nice job 🙂 The carrots really help lots!
Wait, so carrots help fish oil being absorbed? Sorry if I missed something...I thought you're supposed to eat the fish oil with a somewhat fatty meal, are carrots basically doing the same thing?

Thanks!

...what a coincidence, you could almost have been my next door neighbor.
I have one other question on fish oil. How ineffective is it to take it without a meal? I usually try to take it with a meal but I never have breakfast and I just take it with a latte (and i mention "latte" rather than "coffee" b/c at least that has milk) or something very small.
OH, and i second Wang Chung's question.

It's on this page (like 10 posts up) or maybe the one before it depending on your settings...for me it's page 62.
hey one more quick question i went online and i saw one called Fish Oil Concentrate Capsules, what does the concentrate part mean because all the others are just called fish oil capsules.
They just mean that there's more EPA and DHA per capsule. The norm is about 300mg total per capsule, but I saw some in Boots which had about 550mg per capsule. However I worked out that mg for mg they are more expensive than even their own standard Omega 3 capsules, so I didn't bother buying them!
What brand was it as you have to be careful to make sure you get a reliable brand?

Found it. As for the interactions with carrots (vitamin A) and omega 3 fats, the outcome is not too well understood. But from my understandings I gathered this.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.f...p;dopt=Abstract
Based on studies like that, I find that vitamin A (as well as E) (both known as retinol and tocopherol respectively) is necessary (or at least very helpful) for the conversion of ALA (raw form of omega 3 without conversion) to EPA and DHA (what we ingest through fish oil). But as far as it effecting EPA and DHA (which is already converted), I am not sure.
But vitamin A is crucial for health, so taking it is necessary, preferably in raw form to avoid toxicitiy (through carrots).
I say carrots because they are cheap, and one carrot has a LOT of beta carotene (precursor to vitamin A).
So in conclusion:
It will not hinder the absorption of omega 3, it can only help it.
Edit: Here's some direct information regarding vitamin A and omega 3 supplement relation:
Decreases in retinol levels cause the oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids in the cell
did i get a rude awakening these last few days. my skin has broken out quite a bit. i thought that i could basically eat what i want and not get acne because, of course, i'm taking my O3s haha, not! i'm also starting to believe that taking O3 is only a part of the road to success. don't know about the zinc though, have tried it before without much success. i had some icecream with chocolate and pizza on two occasions this last week, mmm, makes you think. if we can just develop this super anti-acne diet that is easy to follow, and without cutting out grains completely, that would be great. paleo too difficult for me.
I happen to turn onto CNN this weekend, and they were doing a report on Fish Oil and how it can help with depression. Did anyone catch that to? I thought it was pretty interesting.
I posted awhile ago that now I'm taking Fish Oils I see it reference all the time now, and seeing it in the news more now ha.
i just bought fish oil 1200mg over the 1000mg i wasnt sure what the difference was so jus choose the 1200mg.it says EPA 216mg and DHA 144mg, and ive been told theres a way of working how much you should take from using these figures. Could anyone help?
Add those two together. Aim for a gram the first week and work your way up per week. Check the first post, it's all in there. Hope that helps

Yeah, google it too, it works well. I think it's because o3 is links to seratonin levels. Believe me, I have been so depressed today :'(. First time in about 3 months.. I mean so down I just feel like death. I tried lowering my dose to about 600 mg in total (to experiment) and i feel like garbage, literally... really low and sad... shit 🙁
Never again.
Well, I just finished going through my 2nd bottle of GNC Fish Oil (1000mg, 180 capsules) in about a little over 3 weeks, a new record. Unfortunately after about a month and a half of taking Fish Oil in various amounts (the most to date is 3.0 grams) I don't think I've seen much of an improvement on my oh-so-overabundant oil. If anything I've noticed that I have VERY slightly smoother skin and nothing else. I just finished buying my 3rd bottle, and I'm hoping that 3rd times a charm with this one, and I'll also be taking it in lesser amounts because I still fear for the potential damage I'm doing to my body and because...........I'm a very frugal person!!! If I see no results with this go around I'm possibly done with fish oil, and this is coming from a skinny guy who finds it hard to eat as much as he'd like and what he'd like, and has trouble gaining weight.
As of late I've been getting bad acne over the sides of my eyelids and less so on my chin, but aside from that negligable acne elsewhere. Oh and yeah..........I finally visited the derm on Thursday!!! 2 missed appointments later to boot!!! As I sat there waiting for him, I tried to remember all of the questions and concerns I had to ask him, especially about fish oil consumption. When I finally got to his office I first spoke with his assistant, this short, cute college student who seemed to be on an intership of some sort. I let her know pretty much everything off the top of my head including my fish oil consumption, but she had no comments for that and just wrote it down as I spoke. She only mentioned that I should use a lighter (liquiid) cleanser and some moisturizer for my face as I may be overwashing it with my current Purpose bar+exfoliating sponge regimen.
The derm then came in, we had a little small talk that ended with him prescribing me Ziana (night) and Benzaclin (morning), as I had mentioned many times during our convo that the previous BP I was prescribed (Duac Gel) took too long to absorb, made my face/pimples red and blotchy and most importantly MADE MY FACE WAY MORE OILY THAN IT ALREADY IS!!! So he prescribed me this, when I also told him that I'd like something that's not visible or greasy when applied during the day. Have any of you guys tried or used Benzaclin? How is it against oil and overall??? The derm mentioned that it has a "drying" effect.........
Both of these prescriptions (ESPECIALLY this "Ziana", which seems like a Retin-A Micro variant) are damn expensive as well.
