What are we doing so wrong? I don't understand. We have everything we need, is it just more time? How much more... I just don't know.
I broke out, oddly it doesn't hurt. It's a bump, a good size, but it doesn't even hurt, or it's not inflammed. It's like a weird break out. what the heck?! It's like it can be a white head, but it's skin colored, yet it's not a cyst, it's very strange... I don't understand.

So it's just one bump? Breath...relax..... some points to remember:
1. it's just ne bump. Aske yourself, is your skin better off now than it was a month ago?
2. Skin renews itself in cycles of 2-3months so it may take that long to get all the crap out. Ever notice how every acne treatment takes AT LEAST 2-3 months to work? It takes that long for the new skin you are building to reach the surface.
Look at this way, you aren't so much repairing your skin so much as you builiding new skin underneath the old. This takes a while to be fully realized as for the new good skin to reach the top. Honestly, give it three months minimum. You cannot reverse a chronic condition in a few weeks. You've had acne for years, to stop it in a month using almost only fish oil would be a miracle. Stick with it keep a level head.

FISH OIL 330mg, of which pure EPA 300mg (90%concentrate)
BORAGE OIL 100mg of which 24% GLA
VIT E 15mg
ZERO DHA
As you can see it contains absolutely no DHA.. Is that a bad thing?
Would taking 6 capsules a day be a good dosage?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Yeah, you want DHA in there which is somewhat more important and almost impossible for males to produce (are you male?). Definately get soemthing with both.
Yeah I'm male. On their website (mind1st.co.uk) it states "the more EPA there is compared with DHA in a supplement, the more effective the supplement will be over time. So even though DHA is one of the good guys, it lessens the benefits achieved by EPA alone."

IMO, I would say the opposite is true. More DHA would be more beneficial than EPA. Males can produce some EPA from ALA (Flax, walnuts, vegetables) but almost no DHA. DHa also accounts for a big chunk of brain matter (ever hear about how fish is called brain food?). Its good that it has borage mixed in, but you need to supplement with DHA. You can still get these but I would humbly recommend getting an additional DHA supp.
Been doing some thinking. So the theory of chronic inflammatory diseases(like acne theoretically) is that we have an over expressed cox-2 enzyme which enables our bodies(or specific cells) to create excessive amounts of pro-inflammatory eicosanoids using arachidonic acid as the substrate.
this enzyme is over expressed because of such a dramatic deviance from our traditional o6/o3 ratio. So then to correct this you may need to overcompensate either sides of the ratio for a therapeutic effect. So it would be a good idea to really cut back on o6 as well as increasing o3.Because if 1:1 is the ideal then a corrective dose would be like 1:10 of o6/o3.
For example in one day getting only 1 gram o6 and taking 10-20 grams of o3 as well for a specified period of time.
Because if your cox-2 is overexpressed its gonna take alot to correct it at a rate where you can really notice the results. And if your genes are set up right now to very efficiently create pro-inflammatory eicosanoids, you really do not want to support that pathway any longer.
this is how im fine tuning my approach, i thought other people might be interested in this idea as well.
Yeah, theorectically I agree we probably would need to overcompensate towards the o3 side initially. This probably would speed up the correction; however such excess o3 could create other side effects. Then again if we've been consuming o6/o3 greater than 10:1 for the past 20+ years and all we know we have so far is acne, a few months tilted towards the other way can't hurt too much. But this is all just speculation, is there any advice given on this for other inflammatory conditions? Regardless, for me this would just be too impractical to achieve, I have a hard enough time getting my o6s down to 1 to 1.

I agree we have to be patient and allow enough time which I'm sure you know. It can be frustrating but we have to lower our expectations in terms of treatment time. Just remember you've had years of acne and are still alive and just fine, a few more pimples isn't anything.

Thank you, you were right, it was totally irrational, it was getting the best of me. I found a few of them, but one being prominent, and the rest being clogged pores. To my surprise, last night I took a green tea extract and two fish oil and went to bed. Right now it's subsided 75%. I really don't know how that's possible but so for that's what happened.
And when I look back, my skin has improved 10x fold. This would have happened daily!
Thanks!
It's also strange, you would think after years of dealing with it, we'd get used to it and brush it off heh

In a way, I think attitudes almost get worse. If you are clear, then get 1-2 breakouts, it REALLY pisses you off. If you have 10 breakouts then another 1-2 isn't so bad. I think it's just that when you feel so close to being totally over something, any setback, no matter how minor, can be horrible. We just have to relax.

Very true! I do have one question for you, how far have you come? I think I've also asked you, but how long have you been on fish oil?
Take a look at this
http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts-C00001-01c20p1.html
Flax seeds itself have 6 grams of omega 3's... one ounce serving.
I wonder if they are expensive
Ok, so I tried using the fish oil - 6 pills a day. Felt like I was going to pass out about a 1/2 hour, and terrible headaches. I am anemic and low - blood pressure - my last reading was 97/68. Maybe I am just psyched out with your warning, but I don't think I can take these.
Going to stick with just the clearogen for awhile, but will try to eat more fish and I bought some peanut butter that is high in Omega 3 and some pasta.
Can't we get better nutrition from the food anyway rather than the supplements? I hate taking pills - I don't know if it is all in my head but I always feel like I get tons of side effects.

its hard to believe that there is an omega 3 peanut butter, peanuts have some omega 3 but way more omega 6.

That's what I was thinking, I guess they're just using this as a marketing tool now to get people to buy it :doubt:
ok, so the peanut butter is Smart Balance - it says "New" - ha, ha. It says it has 1000mg Omega 3 per serving ( that is equal to 1 of the pills I was taking)
It says on the back - 1:3:1 ration of Omega6 to Omega3 ( guess y'all know what that means). Ingrediants are Peanuts, natural oil blend ( flaxseed and palm fruit oils) salt, molasses.
Gluten Free, Lactose Free, Vegan.
It cost $2.52.
So I eat peanut butter pretty much everyday anyway - with apples or on sandwiches. So I thought, heh, I will try it.

Walnuts have the most omega 3 out of any nut. They're hard to find though, the only brand I can find is Emerald which is heavily seasoned/salted.

Well, that, and the fact that is still has 4x the amount of omega 6
🙁
Total Omega-3 fatty acids 10623 mg
Total Omega-6 fatty acids 44567 mg
So it still negates it pretty badly. Just be careful, always know how much omega 6 there is no matter how much omega 3 there is.
Perhaps one more reason to continue. I just dont think there is anything more powerful that you could do for your diet then to alter your o6/o3 balance. Theres too big of a link to chronic inflammatory disease just to brush this off. I still cant say whether a 1:1 ratio will cure you but all signs point to it at least helping you. Ive been researching this for a month and im still amazed by the potential for this. usually everything else just loses steam somewhere along the way.

Evolutionary aspects of diet, the omega-6/omega-3 ratio and genetic variation: nutritional implications for chronic diseases.Simopoulos AP.

Anthropological and epidemiological studies and studies at the molecular level indicate that human beings evolved on a diet with a ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFA) of approximately 1 whereas in Western diets the ratio is 15/1 to 16.7/1. A high omega-6/omega-3 ratio, as is found in today's Western diets, promotes the pathogenesis of many diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, osteoporosis, and inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, whereas increased levels of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) (a lower omega-6/omega-3 ratio), exert suppressive effects. Increased dietary intake of linoleic acid (LA) leads to oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), platelet aggregation, and interferes with the incorporation of EFA in cell membrane phospholipids. Both omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids influence gene expression. Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory effects, suppress interleukin 1beta (IL-1beta), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFalpha) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), whereas omega-6 fatty acids do not. Because inflammation is at the base of many chronic diseases, dietary intake of omega-3 fatty acids plays an important role in the manifestation of disease, particularly in persons with genetic variation, as for example in individuals with genetic variants at the 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO). Carotid intima media thickness (IMT) taken as a marker of the atherosclerotic burden is significantly increased, by 80%, in the variant group compared to carriers with the common allele, suggesting increased 5-LO promoter activity associated with the (variant) allele. Dietary arachidonic acid (AA) and LA increase the risk for cardiovascular disease in those with the variants, whereas dietary intake of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) decrease the risk. A lower ratio of omega-6/omega-3 fatty acids is needed for the prevention and management of chronic diseases. Because of genetic variation, the optimal omega-6/omega-3 fatty acid ratio would vary with the disease under consideration.
Ok, so basically, im clear....I just have some really dry and healing spots left that'll be gone in no time.
Im worried about that blood pressure shit though....I dont want to find out just as im clearing up that theres a negative after all. I guess i'll go get my BP checked.
And xxndnromeoxx, did you get that breakout because you lowered your dosage because you were worried about your blood pressure?
I find it interesting that no has come forward and saying that they tried this method (exactly)for at least 3 months and it did nothing for them.
In terms of the 1:1 balance or even a therapuetic 1:2-4 balance, i still think this is entirely new to this board.
yea ive heard people say they tried fish oil and it didnt work or it helped but if thats all they say, it shows that they really didnt understand the concept here, becasue its really all about the ratio.
ALso my opinoin on liverflushes and enemas and acv, its just there was never any real logic behind all that stuff for me to even try it, because no one has ever really given a good enough reason to do it, but i cant say that it wouldnt help i just dont have any reason to believe it would help other then someone saying it helped them.
just some thoughts.

If you feel fine, you are fine. Don't worry about that, I just took 5 in one go one time and that was my mistake. You'll know when your BP is too low, so if you are feeling pretty good, chances are you are 100% fine 🙂 And your health is actually better than before.
I analyzed what had happened. I was over reacting. The night before I decided to use a mud mask. It was foolish of me, because all that did the next day was produce way too much oil! I mean, a lot!
I remember feeling really dry when I washed it off, it felt like my skin was cracking, and then hence the next day I paid the price.
Now I'm back to normal 🙂 Normal meaning really good!
And I feel great, BP wise too. It's at a really good level (close to 100/70) and that is freaking phenominal for someone who doesn't even work out. I just eat healthy and take fish oil, it really does do wonders for your heart!
So basically it's fine to have low BP, just as long as you feel good with it, it's great! 🙂 Like lance armstrong for example, his resting pulse rate is reallllly low, but that is because he is healthy, but if someone had that low pulse rate and felt really bad, then that's an issue. See what I mean?
So go by how you feel 🙂 If you feel good, you'll be fine, I am sure of it.

It's somewhat like the gym commercial, 'No one ever says that they regret going to the gym once they went', except with fish oil, no one ever regrets taking it if they take it long enough 😀
I am never stopping, never. I feel fantastic, and my body has never felt and looked this good before, ever.

Yeah, I don't think anyone else really tried fish oil at such higher doses yet for 3 months. I've taken it for a couple months now, but only 1-2 pills/day until the last couple weeks.
The main issue I have is that yes we understand we need a good ratio, but I still haven't read anything or seen any good replies to as to at what levels of omegas we need/target. Is having a 1:1 ratio of say 3g enough or do we need a good ratio at atleast 10g each in order to get the benefits from both omega 3 and 6. Is 20g of each a day too much? There has to be some optimum range.
