Thank you very much for your responses. Uhh, I don't really have alot of fat intake. I eat 2 eggs in the morning. I also take 10 fish oil pills. It is 3mg of omega 3(dha+epa). JT forwarded his pm to me. you said to take 1 serving size (1 tsp) of carlsons fish oil but that only has 1600 mg of omega 3 fatty acids?Yup, that is fine as well, and then with the cod liver oil it becomes perfect.
Wow, olive oil seems excellent to take! its awesome that it cancels out the negative effects of omega 6 though, even though it is a source of omega 6 itself! Do you know why its like that? because i think the usual omega 6 promote inflammation...like i think peanuts will break me out. And send me the document, I would love to read it, or at least skim over it!
I just copied and pasted the olive oil info in a post in my thread in the personal log section for you
http://www.acne.org/messageboard/index.php...t&p=2221495
🙂 Read each part very carefully!
"In this study, researchers tested the effects of squalene, beta-sitosterol and tyrosol on a number of free radicals as well as on inflammatory compounds produced from omega-6 fats (arachidonic acid metabolites). In each case, the olive oil compounds either significantly inhibited production of the problem-causing molecules or rendered them harmless."
Straight from whfoods.com!
can you give me your exact vitamin supplement regime? All of them (vit c, e, b, and calcium/D combined), ( zinc, chromium, and b)
Sure! This is what I personally do. In the morning: I take 1 serving of liquid fish oil. Then C, E, B, Calcium (comes with D).
Evening: 1 serving twin labs cod liver oil then zinc and chromium. And of course with these two meals, lots of olive oil (I take 5 servings a day, the amount of fat needed in each day, or actually usually I only get in 4).
Is there a clear benefit from taking the fish oil in a liquid form rather than a pill form? Is it just because it is cheaper? or is it absorbed better?
Most likely because it's most pure, and it's such a small cost in the long run why not you know? It's for our bodies, got to make sure it's the best when it really counts :). You never have to rethink it or look back, it becomes a solid foundation. With oils, I never mess around, go for the best, not because of price but by what it is. But you could probably take capsules and be fine as well, just depends on your budget and what you would like to do 🙂
How do you take the liquid fish oil, cod oil, and olive oil straight? It seems like it would be hard to stomach straight...what do you do? Also, do you get fish burps or any aftertastes with any of those? Also, are you taking the the lemon flavored carlsons fish oil as well? I read you take the cherry flavored cod oil, but what about fish oil? And I wonder if the added articifial flavor negatively affects the oil at all?
I take the fish and cod oil straight after a meal, in a little measuring cup, its just a tiny but and it's mostly tasteless. The fish oil tastes like lemon candy :). For olive oil, in the morn I mix it in eggs, at night I mix it in wheat pasta. When you calculate it all, your diet becomes excessively anti inflammatory. Also it is important to take the vitamins listed in that order as I have done, due to how they work with each other for optimal balance.
Sorry for all the questions! lol, you should make a website with all of your research, analysis, reasonings, etc and include your regime. Or you could make a super long thread with all of it.
Hope all this helps, I still experiment now and then so eventually I will, just not yet 🙂 Got to be 100% sure. Even though it's been months, got to keep waiting!
All answers in bold 🙂
AutonomousOne1980 said:ok here it goesomega 3s make anti-inflammatroy eicosanoids that control ppar ligands that bind to the rxr receptors and control apoptosis through gene regulation/modulation.
omega 6 make pro-infammatory eicosanoids that also control ppar ligands that bind to the receptors and encoourage cell over growth and induce hyperproliferative effects on cells.
omega 3s also increase insulin sensitivity and decrease dht. which also have a relation to acne. but a balance of omega 6 to 3 seems to have a hand in all these possible cause for acne.
Accutane is also a substance that controls apoptosis body binding to the rxr receptor and modulating genes.
and the reason why this unbalance surfaces as acne is because we have the acne gene, its the weakest part of our genes, other people will eventually get cancer or something else down the line.
too many coincidences if you ask me.
But im still skeptical because ive only been doing this for about 6 days.
Hello! My question is how does the season/time of the year factor into this? Fish oil is great for "sun" seasons (spring/summer) and cod oil for "less sun" seasons (fall/winter) both because of the sun's surplus (spring/summer) or depletion (fall/winter) contribution to our bodies producing Vitamin A and D3. I know that Vit A is good for acne, right?! due to its high carotenoid content. Thoughts?
In addition, Cod (my favorite is carlsons, read about it here) is so high in DHA helping our cognitive functioning, heart, etc. Now, I do have a qualifier...what is the person's blood type? I may be the lone solider on this one, but I think people should investigate this and then try things.
For example and relating back to flax, mines is B negative thus making flax nuetral..but me still likie to take it especialy on salads (hmm). Olive oil, however, is beneficial to my body. When it's that time, I take the total EFA from Health from the Sun.
I am interested in you (once again) sharing your knowledge.
BTW, don't rule our grape seed oil as an EFA. Thoughts?
Just throwing this out there- I just read a study about the 5 alpha-reductase (and therefore dht) inhibiting effects of efa's. Epa's metabolites were shown to inhibit 5 alpha-reductase at a rate of 55 %, while the metabolites of gla (an omega 6 in borage and hemp oil) lead to an 80% decrease in 5ar. Both show great dht inhibiting effects, and a combination of the two would likely show even greater dht reduction.
Have you ever thought about writing a book about this?! I'd happily pay for an electronic version of this information, laid out in a clear format. It's tough reading through all 151 pages to get the information needed! I know it takes time, which all of us are short of, but I'm sure people would be willing to a buy a copy of this information clearly laid out. I know it's a tough market to go into competition with titles such as "Cure your acne in 24 hours" and "3-day acne cure" books, but lots of people on this site would buy it I'm sure.

You're right, since it's spring break I will be compiling it in a proper method.
It's a daunting task but I will be compiling all the info, and back it up with all the research I have. I will make it a public site (registering it on pbwiki) and basically making it such that the main regimen and information is on the first page, and all the research will be organized into sub pages so people can read into the science of nutrition.
It'll basically just be the main points of this thread, organized properly, and just containing information. No ads, no products, just info, so that this thread can have some direction and organization. It will basically be this thread, but outside the thread, if that makes sense, so it can be layed out properly without being a huge mess.
And no, it won't cost anything. We suffer enough, we don't need to suffer more by paying for it lol 🙂 And everyone knows all those books are crap and they're out there to make money. If it was really in the best interest of people, it would be straight up free.
Just a quick question. Is it recommended to take 2-3 grams of O3 and at the same time 5 to 7.5 grams of B5? Is anybody combining the two? Thanks
P.S. Should th the 2-3 grams be spread out throughout the day or can I take all in one dosage?
Michael
I do not advise you to take the b5 at that level. No one needs 5 to 7.5 grams of b5 sorry. The RDA is 10 mg, and that is for humans. The RDA is set for human consumption. Unless you are another life form, I highly advise against taking more B5 than is necessary. It will hurt you later and you will regret it.
About the o3, you should spread it out, taken all at one time can lower blood pressure too much. If you're starting, take 1 gram a day for a week or so and slowly go up 🙂

I think that's a brilliant idea, and there will be lots of people out there who are thankful for you putting in so much hard work to benefit everyone. I know how expensive it can be to fight acne, I was more thinking that the money would be more of a thank you than an actual payment. I know all the rubbish 3 day cure books are full of crap, but I would feel guilty about benefiting so much from the hard work you have put into this research. Perhaps you could have a link for donations for a charity of your choice then? I know for one I'd be happy to contribute to something like this.
Thanks 🙂

No worries at all 🙂 the payment for me is when everyone gets better and has a better life. Because there are few people who actually are willing to put in their all, and those that are, should have a clear direction on how to do so. I just get so much satisfaction from helping as much as possible. But if anyone that does want to donate can definitely do that, have a charity of choice or even yet, donate to some type of acne research out there. But that is all side talk hehe!
Either way give me a while as I make a rough sketch of the outline. I still need to figure out what layout it will have in terms of information and order so it's clear, easy to read, easy to navigate, and easy to understand as well.
I've been on Udo's choice for jut over a week now, and am definitely feeling the benefits! The right side of my face and forehead are nearly completely spot-free with very little red marking! And my skin feels a lot smoother, hydrated and happier. Try it, people.
That is very very good news and I am happy to hear that you are getting much better!! Congrats
I CANNOT MORE HIGHLY RECOMMEND SWITCHING TO THE OMEGAS (HENCE I AM SHOUTING IT! ) HONESTLY, THE IMPROVEMENT IN MY SKIN HAS BEEN RADICAL - AND CONTINUES TO ASTOUND ME BY THE DAY.
I NOW ONLY HAVE ABOUT 5 SPOTS, HAVING HAD MANY FOR A LONG TIME PREVIOUSLY. THEY ARE SMALL, RAPILDY DIMINISHING AND MY OVERALL HEALTH FEELS REMARKABLY IMPROVED. FINGERS CROSSED THAT THIS SUSTAINS!!
I PRETTY MUCH PUT IT DOWN TO THIS CHANGE. OTHER THAN SWITCHING TO 'UDO'S', MY LIFE-STYLE REMAINS THE SAME; I HAVE ONLY ADDED A VIT. B SUPPLEMENT, AS WELL. THIS I BELIEVE TO BE BENEFICIAL, ALSO.

you had fish dreams yet ? 😉

It has 420mg EPA & 260mg DHA.

Hm it doesn't look too reputable to me, I wouldn't go for it. There are many good companies out there that we all take just take those

Hooray for omegas!!
NdnRomeo what makes you think it is not reputable product? Can you give me some names of what is reputable? How about RxOmega-3 Factors with 600mg combined EPA/DHA? Or Omax3 with 562mg EPA and 137mg of DHA?Thanks
Micahel
Because it's generally from a random site and I don't really attest to random sites, especially when there are so many brands out there. I personally have not heard of the brands listed, but if you have and it's commonly well known then you can try it out 🙂 Just be safe, that is all. It may be that it's not common here, but it may be well known and reputable there. It's very hard to keep track of the brands hehe. But I am certain that carlsons, nordic natural, and twin labs are definitely at the top of the line. I used to remember many others, but it's been so long since I have had to think twice. Do the research and you'll definitely be in great shape! Perhaps even making a thread as to good brands within your region, I know many people are taking fish oil from there as well. I hope this helps! I am sorry that I could not be of more help at this time. 🙂
would you say xtend-life is okay?

i haven't been here in a while and i was kind of hoping to look back on this topic for some omega 3 info unfortunately, it's being revised so i have a quick question..
what's the difference between dha and epa?
is one more beneficial than the other for acne sufferers?
i went on accutane which cleared up my skin and which is why i haven't been on these boards BUT i'm starting to break out!
One note that may help, if you tend to eat a lot of poultry and red meat in your diet this will cause higher levels of Omega 3 in the body. This causes inflamation and a rise in acne due to the antibodies responding to inflammation. Make sure to EAT a fair share of fish along with taking your Omega 6 supplements.
I was advised by an Italian doctor visiting the US to follow the next few steps (none of my American doctors seemed to be knowledgable on this fact.) She had me take poultry, black pepper, greens such as lettuce, spinach, etc. (unless cooked), wine, peppers, potatoes, sugar and all white flour products out of my diet for 7 days. This allowed my liver the chance to push inflammatories out of the system.
She had me increase my lemon intake, along with adding cayenne and asparagus into my diet because they are good at helping the body push out inflamation. My diet for a week consisted of fish and turkey (soaked in lemon first). After a week I slowly added poultry and the others items back into my diet, but I do not ingest @ the level I did before. I now realize that my liver has a lot to do with inflammation and inflammation has a lot to with my acne.
Hope this helps.

I've been taking 2g of fish oil daily for the past 3 days and I've noticed that my skin has become even oiler. It might just be coincidence so I'll try to stick it out for longer. Has anyone else experienced this?
Also, is 2g of fish oil a good dosage for me? I'm about 6ft 2" but slim

I started taking Omega 3 complex, comes in a purple and black bottle better than fish oil and i've noticed a great improvement on my skin and oil reduction but my oil reduction is mainly from taking B5 with super b-complex vitamins
Hello Omega People,
I have been reading this string for a while and wanted to post something. I just registered today, but wanted to introduce myself in his forum because it makes the most sense to me.
I am a 33-year-old woman and have been struggling with mild-moderate acne since I was about 18. I have been off b.c. pills for almost 2 years, and my acne has worsened since being off them.
I have tried almost everything from seeing a dermatologist on and off for over 10 years to buying expensive skin care lines from Sephora. I tried the DK regimen with BP, etc. and it did NOT work for me. In fact, as I read "NDNRomeo" say on these posts... my skin got worse the more I used these products and read too much on this site.
Most recently, I decided to go back to a very simple regimen and it seems to be working better than anything I've tried in the past few years:
Twice a Day:
Basis Sensitive Skin Soap
Complex 15 face cream on dry patches
Omega 3 & 6 (1T Barlean's Organic Flax Seed Oil: 7700mg Omega-3/2240mg Omega-6)
Once a Day:
Nature's Way Whole Food Energizer Liquid Multi
Nature's Answer Calcium & Zinc Liquid supplement
1-2 Times a Week
Queen Helene Oatmeal Scrub to exfoliate
I am mainly Vegan (hence, I don't eat dairy or animal products) and eat almost all Organic foods. I do not eat anything with partially-hydrogenated oils or trans fats. They are bad in many ways and I can't imagine them being good for people with problematic skin.
I appreciate "NDNRomeos" posts about Omega-3s and think he is right on many accounts; however, I disagree with his assumption that Fish Oil is better than Flax Oil.
I have been taking Flax Oil for a little over 1 month now and have noticed a dramatic effect. I used to breakout near my jaw line and chin mostly (hormonal I think) and noticed immediately after taking the Flax that this has subsided.
I have also been drinking a lot of Rooibus (red "tea"): between 2 & 8 cups a day. Between the red tea and water, I try to get at least 8-12 glasses a day. From what I have read Rooibus tea is a great antioxidant and I have noticed an improvement in my skin since I have been drinking it.
I am interested in hearing from people who have tried natural skin remedies and dietary changes to combat acne. I am also interested in hearing from women who have struggled with acne - especially after stopping taking the pill. I know that mine must be hormone related because I cannot remember my skin breaking out as badly as it has over the past couple of years. I am trying to be patient with my above regimen and have noticed a dramatic improvement since taking Flax and using Basis soap exclusively.
I am also interested in hearing what women use for makeup. I have tried Bare Escentuals makeup and think it broke me out. Now I only use Neutrogena makeup (w/Salicylic Acid) for spot treatments and Zia Natural face powder all over. Using as little makeup as possible seems to help with my breakouts.
I apologize for the long post, but this is my first introduction on a message board & I want to put "my story" out there for viewing.
I love that "NDNRomeo" is trying to give advice and help people and I would like to do the same if my regimen continues to work -- esp. helping other women because I think we have specific issues. By specific issues I mean our own hormones, b.c. pills, and makeup. I hope to help others when I can and learn from others when I can.
Finally, I have noticed that as I am "aging" (although I'd like to think I look young for my age), my skin has taken a "beating" from using such aggressive products like BP, etc. I have read that BP is damaging to the skin and does promote aging and wrinkling. So if there are younger folks out there, reading this... please BE KIND TO YOUR SKIN. As we all have probably learned, picking at your skin and messing with blemishes only makes it worse and leaves LONG TERM reminders of our struggle with acne.
I am a busy person but I would love to hear from folks using holistic means to help their skin. Most of all, let's think positive about our skin "issues" and FIGHT to rid it from our lives... if you all are like me, I have spent way too much time and energy worrying about the way my skin looks.
Best,
Organic Gal
