I cannot eat popcorn, I get spots within an hour, even if I've had clear skin for weeks, I'll have a breakout within a few hours of eating popcorn.

What is popcorn high in? What foods are similar to popcorn that might also cause me problems?

This is the only food I've ever been able to define as causing a breakout is popcorn and it happens every time without fail.

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I could sit and eat 50 spoons of pure sugar and it wouldn't have the same effect, I now substitute the popcorn for a large tub of chocolates and have zero effect on me, so I don't believe it can be the sugar, it's only a very light sugar coat at that.

BP + Sudocrem are keeping me clear unless I eat popcorn, nothing else atm is seeming to have an effect or at least not that big an effect I can see it.

I see your point though, chocolate and other high glycemic foods will have an effect to some degree.

I think because of the speed in which I feel the reaction in my skin, it could be more of an allergy, I could be wrong.

There are two things in popcorn that come immediately to mind in terms of acne:

1. Dextrose - simple carbohydrate found in corn. Many people have adverse reactions to dextrose, and it has been known to aggrivate acne. Although it is not particularly high in popcorn, eating a bag of it may be enough.

2. Oils - for one thing, the oil in regular conventional popcorn is not very good for you. Furthermore, when you heat it, you encourage the hydrogenation of the oil, creating a partially hydrogenated substance (trans fat), and we all know how that relates to acne.

hope this helps.

Maybe it's the "sugar" that was in it? I never heard of anyone putting sugar on popcorn but sugar is a contributor to acne.

Thanks for all your help guys, I didn't put sugar on it, it was just sweet popcorn :P

I ate a whole BIG bag of Maize crisps last night as a test and today my skin has suffered, it looks a little shabby.

Corn and I just don't seem to agree.

I'm guessing you have a sensitivity/allergy to corn, if your reaction is that quick.

I break out after eating air-popped popcorn with salt and pure melted butter. I think it is a Dosha thing. It irritates my intestines, which shows up on the bridge of my nose.

As a long time, Bloody Bursting, Painful, cystic acne victim, I have came down to the conclusion that for me, and me only, Dairy and Sugar are the main Culprits of painful cystic acne/pimples. Buttered Popcorn is my weekness, especially at a movie theater. Each time I would eat popcorn from theater I would get cystic pimples guess where? Right on the very tip, and middle of my nose, along with other gross cystic acne on the back of my ears, my eyelid, my lips cheeks, etc. As I write this I have no acne/pimples. My face is clear. All I did was stop eating anything Dairy, including BUTTER. I also try to stay away from sugar as that seems to feed already growing pimples. If I just have sugar on it's own, no dairy, I am fine.

For me I think Dairy is the main Pimple producer. Somehow together, Dairy and Sugar work together to create havoc on your face.

I hope this information was useful, just had to chime in and saves others from wrecking their faces.

Popcorn is made of whole corn, meaning it's filled with lectins. Same for other whole grains
