Also, to the moderators, someone should really make this a sticky. I'm so glad I caught this thread before it faded into oblivion. I have a feeling there are many people on this board with similar issues that don't have any idea what candida is or that yeast maybe the root cause of a panacea of health problems they are dealing with, including acne.

There is already a sticky pertaining to this topic. I listed Leaky Gut Syndrome as LGS in a thread I created, however I went ahead and spelled it out and am merging the two threads.

All about Leaky Gut Syndrome, Possible root cause of acne? is now apart of this thread, ACNE DIET, CLEANSING & LEAKY GUT SYNDROME RESOURCE GUIDE

I'm amazed how many people this info is helping (myself included) I'd really like to get this info out into the general population and the medical community. What exactly can we do to get this out there for longtime chronic acne sufferers?

I just woke up and did the spit test (from http://www.adhdrelief.com/CandidaTest.html) and I see the strings. Does that mean I have LGS?

For those suspecting wheat/gluten induced leaky gut, ive made a thread bout how the probiotic bifidobacterium lactis prevents intestinal permeability from gliadin- may wanna try it out to support a gluten-free, limited or crap diet...

Wouldn't the best thing for everybody to do is get a comprehensive blood test to determine allergic substances and at the same time take macrobiotics and supplements of this nature?

My naturopath has told me that I have a leaky gut and has given me probiotics to sort it out...I realise today that one months worth was costing me $50! holy sheet!

I dont have cystic acne, or pimples really per se, but chronic blackheads and whiteheads. It seems like the exxon valdez grounded itself on my face not in alaska! Seeing as though BCP didnt help this oil slick of mine, im assuming its something Im going to have to solve through adjusting my diet. maybe this leaky gut has been messing me around.

Very interesting that you say to avoid all nuts, even almonds why is this?

I have been eating nuts for protein intake and my skin is quite broken out.... This issue with nuts is new to me.

I have read a book, that clearly discusses one of the reasons for acne is hormone induced foods such as milk and cheeses. As I cut these out of my diet, my skin began to clear. Also I ate a healthy amount of berries and fiber one cereal for breakfast. I tried to eliminate sugars, especially white and corn syrups from my diet, skin seemed to clear. I started eating cheeses and milk in my coffee, skin disaster.

I am 39, white female and have tried all kinds of over the counter cremes as well as accutane, as well as visited several different dermatologists. They prescribed Tazorac, Retinol, Proactive and Accutane, none of which really worked.

The only two things, holistically I have found that worked so far are vitamins listed below and a creme/wash trio. The creme/wash/lotion pak I have found that work are iQDerm Acne pak with the wash, lotion and creme, they work quite well after about 7 days. The other is a vitamin supplement by Lorna VanDerHaegue (Canadian) EstroSense and Vitex, which seems to do hormone regulation, duo bonus, not so difficult monthly cycles, sorry guys, I know this won't work for you, but I am sure the iQDerm will. :)

The other thing I have done is it took about 2 years of monthly facial/microdermabrasion, nlite, genisys treatments to get me pretty clear and then I started the iQDerm/Lorna treatments along with a daily workout that would literally sweat out 1L of water to clean out my pores.....

All seems to be going well.

I hope this helps to those that have been living with the issue for years with questionable solutions.

I really believe it is about your own personal DNA and what works for you.

Happy Treatment! :)

To All,

I've grown tired of the cynical debates, enjoyed the positive discussions, loved the research, heard the questions, sympathized with the confusion, felt the pain, and finally decided to compile a Resource Guide.

I hope that for those of you with questions, especially the Newbies, you will look to this guide as one of your references.

Now first of all, this is a guide dealing with the development of acne, how diet can play a role, and how leaky gut syndrome (intestinal hyperpermeability) may be at the base of it.

This is NOT a guide discussing or debating "healthy" or why there "isn't enough supportive evidence" to make this a valid form of treatment!

This guide will provide information, tips, support, options, and other resources and tools necessary in order to make following an individualized Acne Diet and/or healing your Leaky Gut a less confusing, HEALTHY, and fun transition.

Furthermore, aside from a few key threads, this will be a predominantly focused on solutions . Answers to what foods to eat, what diets to follow, what tests to take, gut healing regimens etc. There will also be a links section for anyone searching for more in-depth information on this board or elsewhere.

Of course I would greatly appreciate it if any of you (especially you cleansing & healing gurus) that are currently following a specific diet or holistic regimen, that has not been mentioned yet, to chime in and share the following:

Dos & Donžts of the Diet

(Brief History of the diet)

Customized Diet Regimen

Gut Healing Regimen

Personal Testimony

Etc

As a forewarning, negative comments and arguments about these methods may be edited or removed! This is a positive energy and supportive thread, A Safe Haven, and ALL are welcome to participate if keeping the above in mind. This thread will deal in the possibilities and capabilities of a new improved lifestyle instead of continually focusing on the cants.

I acknowledge that there are different levels of "healthy", but for reasons of sanity and affordablity this thread will be focused on a certain level of healthy in regards to obtaining the proper amount of nutrition & variety while keeping in mind an individualžs diet. Please be aware when speaking of your own diet or holistic regimen that you donžt downplay what works for someone else.

Finally, Ižve come to realize that one of the biggest obstacles regarding an improved lifestyle is that a percentage of us have no clue whatžs sold in the produce isle! No clue as to how to pick produce, let alone how to properly prepare them and cook them. No clue just how many different kinds of food exist in the world in comparison to what their current diet consists of. Nor do people FULLY realize that when one door closes several more open. Hopefully this thread will awaken more of you to just how much more you really DO have as a result!

Peace & Love!

OK, I love how everyone has contributed so far....guess I can't feel too bad about not posting as frequently as I had hoped. Summer school, work, etc have got me bogged down but darn it....I REALLY want you guys to have this info so I'm just gonna post it! Read it carefully as there's something in it for some of you...

** My first book reccommendation is for Wellness Foods A to Z **

I chose this book because it shows you PICTURES of food! You find out what a particular food looks like, how to shop for it at a grocery store, how to cook it, and what nutrients it contains. It's a hugh 640 page book and I thinks its definately worth the price!

** My 2nd recommendation is for The Natural Diet Solution for PCOS and Infertlility. **

Please DO NOT let this title deter you...if you are or suspect that you are in any way Glucose Intolerant (Insulin Resistant, Type II Diabetic, etc) male or female this may be the book for you. I believe this is especially true for those of you that are having trouble following some of the diets on this board. I don't believe in "one size fits all diets" but this one happens to incorporate a lot of theories out there that some members, perhaps yourself, may have tried. It takes into account, low carbing, acid-alkaline diet, Blood Type Diet/Eat Right 4 Your Type, paleo diet, as well as individual food hypersensitivites (which I still need to cover later). As a result, you end up with a book that's provides a diet that's:

Moderate Carbohydrate

Moderate Protein

Moderate Fat

High in Fiber

High in Fruits & Vegetables

No Refined Sugars

NO Gluten Grains

No Dairy

And some other aspects that I don't wish to give away.... ;)

The main thing about this book though is that you can get it as an E-book or as a hard copy Paperback. Personally after owning both versions of the E-book and now owning the Paperback I have to say that if for no other reason the ability to use the recipes....the hard copy is the better option. This book contains 538 pages divided into 17 chapters and includes:

Dozens of areas of information

Section for Vegetarians

Section for Preganant Women

Shopping List

Cooking Tips

30 Day Meal Plan

150+ Recipes (over 100 pages)

Supplement reccommendations

Resources

References

etc

For the most part it basically contains most things that had I published an ebook would have wanted to include because I feel they are essential for surviving a new dietary lifestyle! {1st 3...} It comes in two different levels, a Reccommended Level and a Maintenance Level. For those curious the Recommended level is what most members including myself are following to some degree through our own trial & errors (via some time of Eliminaiton diet). {people to...} However for those that get the book, you may not have to go through what we went through and the BEST part is that these recipes are soo customized diet friendly! There are recipes for:

Meals

Meat

Seafood

Poultry

Eggs

Soup

Salad

Vegetables

Sauces

Smoothies

Snacks

Oh but what is even BETTER, is that these recipes are 95% Nut free (but you can substitute or leave out) 99% Sweetner-Free (natural or artificial), 100% Grain-Free , 100% Dary-Free, and Trans Fat Free! {contact me...} This book was written inconjunction with a Naturopathic Doctor (her daughter had acne too) so these meals and recipes are so completely healthy and man....the recipes, the sauces...the soups....so yummy! You can read more about the authors and check out the first two chapters here:

Furthermore, the book also includes information regarding how significant a role exercise can play on reducing insulin resistance! {and will} As well as providing information regarding Insulin Resistance and Leptin Resistance (may explain why some of us aren't underweight while others are overweight with acne-prone skin), and how this disease is now being considered a Chronic Silent Inflammatory Disease and thus where inidividual food hypersensitivities come into play. {hook you up...} ......If you've NEVER tried dieting before and want to! Based on what I've heard from others regarding their diets, and how similar it is to my diet (very similar), this book may just be a good and healthy starting point for you or perhaps your ultimate solution!

Sorry, I've gotta run, but I'll catch back up with you all, except for a select few, in about 2 weeks or so.

Peace, love, hugs!

I've been doing an anti-candida diet along with taking antifungals and its helping.

I've been taking IntestiNEW for a month now at 10g day and its really helping the leaky gut.

After another month of IntestiNEW I plan to incorporate probiotics.

One thing you guys should look into is Biotin. Biotin is beneficial for candida sufferers because it helps prevent the mutation of the candida into its more virulent form. Biotin is usually secreted by the good bacteria in your gut, but candida sufferers would be lacking in that category.

Anyone know a good way to help leaky gut? Is a healthy diet with vitamin c enough to repair it?

Unfortunately, and much as I would like one, there's no quick pill solution to a leaky gut. You just have to eat the right things for a good few months, in my experience anyway. Here's an interesting link: http://www.stopleakygut.com/healing

My homeopath said that L-Glutamine would fix my leaky gut.

So, Im hoping that L-Glutamine and the best probiotic I could find will do the trick.

Im also lowering my sugar/gluten in-take as much as I can.

Good luck!

Edit to say that I am also taking Apple Cider Vinegar with big meals to aid digestion.

Just finished reading the entire thread and I have to say this is a fantastic guide. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this page. I've kind of done a full 360. When I first began getting acne my mother told me to take probiotics and support my gut but when that really didnt do the trick I moved into a more antibiotic approach. Now, after my gut has seriously been damaged from the several antibiotics I've taken (including accutane), I too believe that the gut is directly related to my acne.

I am on a low glycemic diet and I eat alot of fruit. However, I plan on gutting all fruit from my diet for 1-2 weeks in hopes of improving my digestions. Just 4 days ago I stopped taking an antibiotic which really really skrewed up my gut. From the moment I stopped taking the (topical) antibiotic (I know topical? can do that, apparently yes) I started taking large amounts of probiotics and gut and liver boosting pills. I've been taking 8 pills called GreenVibrance and 5-7 probiotics a day along with fish oils, calcium and a food based multivitamin and I can honestly say my skin feels and looks better. Not to mention my gut gets 1000% better each day. I pray I didn't permanently harm my gut but I think the human body is pretty good at recovering and healing itself given the right tools.

One question I do have is about the cod liver oil. I've never heard of cod liver oil in my life. I'd love to learn more about it. The site I found described it almost as a miracle pill for arthritis but what about acne? If I am taking fish oils is it essentially the same deal? Any further information about cod liver oil would be great. thanks again, the information here has been literally life changing

So Suzanne Somers is making appearances promoting her latest book and says that leaky gut is caused by all the antibiotics in the meat from sickly grain fed cattle. And apparently there's a lot on food intolerances in the book. She consults mostly with alternative and integrated medicine practitioners.

That youtube video was great. 90% improvement! And what she said is EXACTLY what I keep telling people. Acne is an internal issue. We are reaching the age of making that a fact.

Acne is most definitely an internal issue. Could have been slowly built up by many of the horrible atrocities present in our industrialized foods.

I've been keeping a food log to try to figure out what specifically might be causing my acne and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this...how long after an offending food can you expect to see acne?

It's very difficult to try to pinpoint what's causing it. I didn't have dairy for over a week which seemed to help but that's definitely not the only thing, but I ate some yogurt the other day and now have some cystic acne along my hairline. I'm going to try to strictly eliminate nuts and dairy this week, but will still have soy, coconut, and some seeds like flax and tahini (sesame). Also how about unsweetened cocoa powder with stevia? Thanks for any input.
