I suffered with severe cystic acne for many years. Early on I learned the importance of avoiding mirrors, reflections, and photographs. Once you stop looking at yourself in the mirror, you will find that within 24 hours, your anxiety levels will drop significantly.

Like you, my skin is clear now, but if I get sucked into the mirror, then I just start worrying about all of my scars and imperfections. Once a week I will shave in front of the mirror, but I do it quickly and efficiently.

By not looking in the mirror, my self image in my mind is of a smooth face without scars. Therefore that's how I interact with the world, and in turn that's how the world sees me. It took years, but my confidence is high now. It's like if I don't see the scars, then other people don't see them either.

You even said it in your post: "the first thing I notice in every mirror and reflection of myself".

I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand, we should accept our scars because they are imperfections that make us unique.

On the other hand, if you get rid of something, your mood can improve. So...have you tried scar repair? Improving them might be a way to alleviate some of your self-consciousness.
